Chapter 40 The letter

Chapter 40 The letter
\-Third-person point of view-

\-In the Nightfall Pack-

“Wait, what?” Kevin leaned closer, staring at Amelia with an incredulous grin. “No way. Amelia, you can’t be serious. I absolutely refuse to believe that.”

They sat side by side on a park bench, surrounded by the calm beauty of the pack’s grounds. The air was light, the atmosphere peaceful, a contrast to the secret Amelia had just shared.

Over time, their friendship had grown naturally, steadily enough that Amelia had finally felt safe confiding in him about who she truly was.

Kevin shook his head again, disbelief written all over his face. “I honestly can’t wrap my head around this. No way. Are you actually serious right now? This sounds completely impossible.”

Amelia let out a soft laugh, her voice lowering instinctively. “I know it sounds unbelievable,” she admitted. “But it’s true. I really am a vampire.”

Kevin stiffened, then laughed under his breath as he shook his head harder. “No. No way. You’re messing with me.” He glanced around before leaning in and lowering his voice. “There’s no way the Alpha would have accepted you into his pack if he knew that. I don’t believe it. You can’t be… you can’t actually be a vampire.”

Amelia only smiled at him, calm and unbothered. “I’m telling you because I trust you, Kevin,” she said gently. “You’re my friend. I don’t want anyone else knowing. Unless, of course, this changes how you see me and you don’t want to be my friend anymore.”

Kevin’s eyes widened, then softened as he leaned closer, curiosity fully awakened. “Amelia,” he whispered, half amazed. “If you really are one of those… you know what… then that’s incredible.” A grin spread across his face. “And honestly? I’m honored you trust me. You’re one of the kindest people I know. I never imagined someone like you could be so nice and you still walk around in the sunlight.” He paused, eyes shining with curiosity. “How do you even do it?”

Amelia only shrugged lightly, her smile mysterious, choosing to keep that secret to herself.

Kevin found himself smiling as he looked at her. There was something undeniably captivating about Amelia. Her beauty was striking, but it was her presence, calm and sincere, that truly drew him in.

“So,” Kevin asked casually, though he already knew the answer, “what are you to the Alpha?”

Amelia met his gaze without hesitation. “It’s another unbelievable truth,” she said softly. “I’m his mate.”

Kevin blinked, a faint ache stirring in his chest before he could stop it. He lowered his eyes and gave a quiet nod. “I see. Then the Alpha is a lucky man,” he said sincerely. “Anyone would be fortunate to have someone as beautiful as you.”

Color bloomed across Amelia’s cheeks as she smiled warmly. Hearing such words from someone other than Lucien felt unexpectedly nice. More than that, Kevin’s acceptance of who she was made her feel at ease.

With a mate who cared for her and a friend who stood by her, life finally seemed to be falling into place. The thought filled her with a gentle, radiant happiness.

Kevin’s attention suddenly shifted as he noticed someone nearby. He stood up, brushing off his pants. “I should go now,” he said. “Let’s talk later.”

Amelia nodded, and Kevin walked away, heading toward the figure he had spotted earlier, deliberately putting distance between himself and her.

When he stopped, he let out a slow breath. “What do you want, Tiara?” he asked flatly. “Can’t you see I’m busy?”

Tiara Kriss approached, her expression composed. She inclined her head slightly. “Yes. You’re busy with the task I gave you,” she said. “Has she opened up to you yet?”

Kevin nodded. “She has. She finally told me she’s a vampire. That means she trusts me.” A faint smile tugged at his lips. “She can be surprisingly innocent at times. It’s… endearing.”

Tiara’s eyes narrowed as she caught the subtle change in his expression. “Kevin,” she said carefully, “don’t tell me you’re actually starting to develop feelings for that girl.”

Kevin shrugged indifferently. “And if I am?” he replied. “The Alpha accepted her, so what’s the issue? If everything goes according to plan, I can always take her for myself.”

Tiara sighed, clearly displeased but unwilling to argue further. She nodded once. “Do whatever you want,” she said. “As long as the plan succeeds, I don’t care.”

Kevin gave a simple nod in response.

The sun cast a warm, golden glow over the training grounds as Lucien stood watching his warriors. He was fully absorbed in overseeing the drills of the pack’s newest recruits, observing every movement, every strike, every mistake.

Their energy was contagious, their determination unmistakable. Watching them train, Lucien felt a quiet swell of pride. His pack had grown stronger under his leadership, and moments like this reminded him why he carried the weight of being Alpha.

The sharp clash of swords and the dull impact of fists filled the air when his gamma, Charles, approached him. An envelope was clutched firmly in Charles’s hand, his expression caught somewhere between curiosity and caution.

“Alpha,” Charles said respectfully, holding out the envelope. “This was found near the outskirts of our territory. It was sealed, and there were no markings to indicate who sent it.”

Lucien turned away from the training grounds and accepted the envelope, one brow lifting slightly. He examined it with care, his sharp eyes taking in every detail, the quality of the paper, the way it had been sealed, even the faint scent lingering upon it.

This was no ordinary envelope. It was a message.

As Alpha, Lucien knew better than to dismiss unexpected correspondence. Such letters often carried either valuable information or concealed threats, both of which demanded immediate attention.

With a controlled, deliberate motion, he broke the seal and unfolded the parchment inside. His gaze scanned the writing, and his expression hardened almost instantly.

The handwriting was unmistakable.

It belonged to Mikael Moore.

Leader of the Red Sun Clan.

And Amelia’s father.
