Marcus's POV
It's been three days since the two young men were kept under custody but they have refused to say a word. We do not know the pack they come from. There was no symbol or any sign of any sort that could give us a lead about their identity. They looked like they were not from this region and I wondered how they ended up here.
Among the items seized from them was a strange circle-shaped object made of glass. It looked like the sun and it emits light rays of different colors.
I noticed how they were guarding their jealousy during the chase.
Nobody had ever seen a thing like that before. Not even the oldest member of our pack. I had gone into the room where those items were collected to examine the object more closely. I had hoped to find a clue that could help us with information about their motive.
I was about to leave the room when I heard a melodious voice singing a mournful song. It came from a mysterious object. The voice was so soothing that it could melt the heart of the most fierce warrior.
It began to emit rays of red light. The light ray was so bright that it made the entire room glow. I felt a strange energy around me. The object began to float in the air like a balloon. Then I heard a voice inside it call out to me. "Marcus," it said. The more the voice called out to me the more I felt the urge to move closer.
It's like I was in a trance. A part of me wanted me to stay away from the object but the other part urged me to move closer. As the inner part of me struggled I finally gave in to the curious part.
Slowly I began to move closer. My legs felt heavy as I dragged them along. When I came face to face with the glass ball, a part of me asked me to touch it. "Go on Marcus," the voice said and slowly I raised my hand towards the object. I was skeptical. Not sure whether it was safe for me to touch it but curiosity got the better of me.
I was about to place my hand on the glass ball when the door sprang open snapping me out of my delusion.
Nicole walked in staring at me with an expression that carried a question mark.
"What's up with you man," he asked, closing the door behind him.
"You mean you can't see this?" surprised that he asked this question even with everything that was going on in the room.
"See what?" he asked looking around the room. That was when I realized that the room was no longer glowing. The object which was floating in the air a while ago was now sitting at the table where it was when I came in earlier.
It had stopped emitting light and I could no longer hear the voice or the song. I was dumbfounded.
"Are you okay man? Nicole asked, looking worried. I pointed at the object trying to explain what just happened but I hesitated realizing how stupid that might make me look.
"It's nothing," I said, waving my hand. "I came here to supervise the glass ball. I was hoping to find something that could give us a lead.
"I know you want to impress your father but trust me man your father is already proud of you. I see it in his actions. "
" You think so? " I was relieved that he didn't ask any suspicious questions." Common dude," he said tapping me on my shoulder
"You know me better than that. I say things the way they are." He said as he grabbed me by the shoulder. A gesture that he wants me to walk with him.
He was right. Nicole is a straightforward fellow. Kind, respectful but also fearless and blunt.
We first met in the forest during one of my hunting adventures many years ago. His team had hunted down a rabbit
I knew the rabbit was theirs but I claimed it was mine. Those days I was a reckless and naughty young lad who was feared by my pack because of my status. Nobody had the guts to stand against me even when I was wrong. This made me treat everyone with little to no respect.
I lost my mother when I was very little and my father was always busy. If he was not helping a friend pack fight their war then he was busy handling the affairs of the pack so I had no one to caution me.
It was Nicole who made me realize I can not always have things my way.
"Hey little pop, get back here," he had said after I took the rabbit from them and I remember I was so shocked at his audacity.
"The shock expression on your face is still vivid in his memory" Nicole would always say whenever we talked about that day.
Tyler was a childhood friend and relative but I became more close to Nicole because of certain features we shared. We were fearless, reserved, and hated history lessons.
Nicole is a member of our pack but spent his early years among his mother's pack. He was brought back to this pack after he turned fifteen.
As we walked out of the room my mind was in a state of confusion and I wondered if I was losing my mind.
Everything felt like a dream yet it wasn't. Now I understood why they were guarding the glass ball jealousy. The glass ball must be some magical object. That was the only logical explanation for what I saw.
"Where are we headed? " I asked, realizing we were headed toward my father's chambers.
"To your father of course. He is back and he demands your presence."
I was happy to learn that my father has returned home.
I was also happy that the responsibility of the pack no longer lay on my shoulder now that he is back.
He was sitting on his throne inside the throne room when we got there. He was alone.
"Ah! There you are " he said, rising to his feet as he sights us. He walked towards me and hugged me. He was happy about something.
"Sit down both of you," he said, gesturing toward the chairs closest to him. We both sat down.
"Father, come back home," I said." Thank you, Marcus "
"You look, happy Father, what's the good news? " I was unable to hide my curiosity.
"You are the reason I am happy and proud. " He said and I looked at Nicole not sure what he meant. Marcus shook his head, a gesture that he had no idea.
"I am told that you arrested two young men who had a strange glass object. "
Yes together with Steve and Nicole. I said trying not to take all credit
He let out a cheerful laugh." I have never doubted you, Marcus. Once again you have made me proud."
I felt happy at this compliment but I still had no idea why exactly he was happy.
