Chapter thirty-six

Alyssa's POV

I had already given up thinking I was going to die. My inner self was already in the world beyond or so I thought. The seer werewolf appeared to me telling me this was just the beginning not the end as I presumed.

"The time has finally come and your destiny starts here," she said in her usual terrifying voice. Only I didn't like how I was going to get out of this one, now that I was minutes away from getting consumed by this forum. I could feel the heat closing in around me.

Then out of nowhere, I heard a loud bang, "Alyssa" said a familiar voice and I recognized it to be Marcus's at once. I heard the voice from afar.

"Enemies will come from within and without. You must be prepared" the seer werewolf finally said and disappeared into tin dust.

I felt someone shake me violently and this shook me out of the trance I was in. I opened my eyes which felt heavy slowly, they were stinging from the smoke in the room. It was a relief to see Marcus. He bent over me looking worried sick.

"I need to get you out of here," he said and helped me up. He hoisted me to his back and through a window he was able to get us out of the building. He ran in the woods with me hoisted to his back.

For what seemed like hours we walked through the woods until we finally stopped under a tree to rest. Marcus was exhausted, and I could see the pain etched on his face from his injuries. But he refused to give up, and I knew that he would do whatever it took to keep us safe.

As the night fell, we huddled together under the tree, trying to stay warm. The sounds of the battle still echoed in my ears, but I felt safe with Marcus by my side.

He managed to kill an animal that we used for dinner. I took that time to appreciate him for everything he has done to save my life. From the moment the fight broke out in the village he has been by my side protecting me even though he has his family to worry about.

I apologized for sending him away the day he came to Ethan's village with his brothers to see me.

I asked him if he was able to find his family and he told me everything that he encountered on his way to look for them.

I felt sorry for the loss of his friend Tyler. I know Tyler quite well from the time we were together and I may say he is a good guy.

I told him how impressed and thankful I was at the way he stood up in the courtroom to testify against Marietta.

He also told me about himself, how life has been unbearable for him from the day he rejected me in front of everyone, and how he regretted it.

How Marietta had been a thorn in his flesh ever since threatening to deal with both of us.

He told me how he searched for me everywhere the day they arrived at Marietta's pack for the wrestling festival and how he was able to track the guy who brought him to the location where I was held hostage.

I looked at him and I couldn't help but think about the good old days. Even with the bruises and cuts on his face, he still looked handsome as ever.

Before now I was confused. Not sure whether to give him another chance but now I know he is truly sorry.

He held my hand and promised never to let me go again no matter what happens.

My face flushed and I knew I was still head over heels for this guy. I rest my head on his chest. It was a moment of peace amid chaos and I never thought I would feel this way after everything we had gone through today.

When the morning sun rose, we continued our journey through the woods. We walked for hours, encountering other survivors of the attack who were also seeking shelter. We shared our food and water with them, offering comfort and hope in the face of tragedy. But we were on high alert ready for anything that might come our way.

It was a difficult journey, we passed through many packs but for fear of falling into the hands of our enemies, we couldn't ask for shelter just anywhere.

We got to understand that the neighbouring villages were mostly loyal to Lordson Al and so had joined hands with him in killing members of packs that were not on his side. That explained why those men asked the lady which packs she belonged to.

We also got information from one of the survivors we shared our food with that Lordson Al tagged Marcus and his father as traitors for conniving with his enemies to drag his daughter's name into the mud and raiding his village.

Marcus was angry. He was disappointed that Lordson Al would think so low of his father. How dare he think they have a hand in the attack?

That meant Macus's life was in danger.

We pushed on, driven by the need to survive and protect each other. We encountered many challenges along the way, but we faced them together. supporting each other through tough times.

There are times when we had to hide away from passersby who are likely to be members of the packs that are loyal to Lordson Al. He may have lost a lot but he was still very influential.

As we journeyed through the woods, we got more information about the devastation that had been wrought upon the region.

Every pack we passed through was mourning. This conflict has left us all a permanent wound that we will nurse forever. Families have been torn apart. It was a grim reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment.

Eventually, after many days of travel, we finally arrive at Marcus's pack. We would have arrived days ago if we had followed the usual route but Marcus insisted it was too dangerous to follow open track during attacks so we had to follow the reckless roads which were longer and more difficult to travel on. What mattered was that we were able to get home safely.

Marcus's pack members ran to welcome us. They were all happy to see that Marcus was still alive. Marcus asked about his father and brothers and he was told they all survived it even though his father barely survived it. His friends Nicole and Steve also made it home alive.

He ran to the village on hearing that his father was injured. He got injured while trying to rescue his pack members.

I walked behind him. We passed through the village clearing. There are a lot of people there. They all have mournful expressions on their faces. Some were in pain, some in shock, some were even crying. As we got closer I realized some of them were not members of this Pack.

They must have gotten separated from their pack members in their quest to run for their lives.
