Alyssa's POV
I watched as people dispersed from the courtroom. I sighted Marcus from afar. He seemed to be lost in thought. Something in me wanted to go closer to him. I missed him but I just could bring myself to do that.
Ethan held my hands and together we walked out of the courtroom. He escorted me back to my room.
"Alyssa, I am so sorry you had to go through all that" Ethan apologized as if he was responsible for my kidnap. He has been apologizing ever since I got back even though I already told him there was nothing to apologize for. He believes my kidnap was negligence on his part. I don't see how though.
"Ethan, can you please stop apologizing already?" I queried.
What mattered now was to find the culprit. He asked if I could remember anything that could give us a lead but nothing. I thought hard and long but all I could remember was all I told them at the court. Even before the hearing I have already narrated everything to Ethan and George.
Ethan went back to the scene of the fight but came back with nothing. He went to Marcus but what he got was not enough to lead us anywhere.
Knowing Ethan, he must have gone to that building where I was held hostage.
He left the room urging me to take some rest before we are summoned back to the hearing. It could be anytime soon.
I lay on the bed and I couldn't help but feel indebted to Marcus for his timely intervention.
I wondered how he found us out. He did mention that he followed one of the men but why? Why did he feel the need to follow them? Well, does that matter now? All that mattered was that I am safe thanks to him.
I kept replaying the whole scene in my head. Wondering who was behind my kidnap and why.
The dress I was kidnapped in was still laying by my bedside. I should get rid of it, I thought.
I stood up and picked it up. As I made my way towards the door a metal dropped down. As soon as I heard the sound I knew what it was.
Ah! I exclaimed excitedly. The pendant! ". How could I have forgotten such a thing? I bent over to look for it at once. I saw it lying close to the bed. I picked it up and ran out to look for Ethan.
He was not in his room. I was told he was somewhere outside the edge of the forest.
I ran out to search for him. I couldn't find him on time but I was too desperate to wait for him to return. I kept searching everywhere I could until I found him standing by a bush somewhere between the outskirts of the village.
"Ethan!" I ran towards him. As soon As he spotted me running toward him, he ran toward me. Curious to know why I was in such haste.
"I remember something," I said, breathing heavily. I raised the pendant showing it to him.
"What is this?" He asked me as he examined it.
"This fell off from the pocket of one of those men when he came to give me food. This pendant is similar to the pendant I saw around the neck of the cloaked woman whom I encountered at your Pack."
"What? " Ethan exclaimed, his mouth wide open. The person or people who attacked our pack are also responsible for kidnapping you? He growled rage visible on his face.
"This has probably been about you from the onset. Maybe our pack was also attacked because of you."
"Really? " I asked, feeling awful at the possibility that their pack might have been destroyed because of me. But Ethan assured me that it was not my fault.
According to Ethan's hypothesis, the unidentified woman must be the mastermind behind everything. Thomas and his men were probably just a pawn in her game.
I couldn't help but agree with Ethan because I do not recollect ever seeing Thomas or his men before the kidnap.
Now that I know Thomas is Lordson Al's servant, I suspected Marietta to be behind this. I told Ethan and he agreed with me.
This could be her way of getting back at Marcus for leaving her. Now everything began to make more sense.
But this was just an assumption, not a fact. We will need solid evidence to prove her guilty.
If we can find Thomas, then we might be able to get him to tell us who was behind this.
Now that this unidentified woman is somehow connected to the attack on their pack, he was even more interested in finding her than ever.
Not long after I got back to my room. A servant came to inform me that the judge wants us back in the courtroom.
Thomas and two of his men were kneeling before the court. Thomas looked weak. He wasn't putting on a shirt, I could see the cuts and bruises all over his body and that made me sick.
After everyone was seated. Thomas was asked to tell his side of the story.
He admitted to kidnapping Tommy and me but insisted no one had sent him.
"Liar" I scoffed under my breath." you pathetic liar". Irritated at how he was lying shamelessly before everyone.
Many of us in the room knew he was lying. His men also said the same thing. They must have been brainwashed by Lordson Al. He is a very influential and cunning man and everyone knows that.
They are his servants therefore it was only typical for them to lie to protect their master.
Lordson Al accepted knowing Thomas as his servant who has been like a son to him but denied knowing any member of his gang or anything about the kidnap. Marietta also said the same thing.
"May I speak? " a voice said and we all turned to look in the direction of the voice. It was Marcus." You may speak" the judge permitted. We all watched as Marcus walk to the front of the room.
I could see the disapproval evident on the face of his father as Marcus walked to the front of the room with his head held up high but looking at no one in particular.
He looked around the room as if looking for someone then cleared his throat "I do not mean to disrespect or defame anyone but I have reasons to believe that alpha princess Marietta Lordson of Red Hill pack is the mastermind behind the kidnap of Miss Alyssa Godson."
For the next few minutes, the room was thrown into a state of huff. It was a mixture of emotions. Some were angry and shocked and a few like Ethan happy.
I was more shocked than happy. He was the last person I expected to say a thing like that about the daughter of his father's blossom friend right in front of his father.
