Chapter 44 Get the Hell Out!
Mia said, "Do you know who her ex-husband was? Alexander! The Hayes family of Silverlight City—the most prominent family in the city. Sure, you both share the Hayes name, but can you really compare to Alexander? She dared to cheat on Alexander himself—what makes you think she won't do the same to you?"
Alexander grew increasingly irritated, even somewhat explosive. "If you dare spread such gossip outside, I'll have the Foster Group bankrupted and shut down by tomorrow!"
Mia shrank back in fear. What kind of background did this man have that he could destroy the Foster Group with a single word?
She didn't believe it!
Seeing Mia's face turn ashen while she still seemed about to speak, Alexander had no interest in hearing another word from this woman. He raised his hand to check the time.
Mia noticed the watch on his wrist—a Patek Philippe Sky Moon Tourbillon. The timepiece alone was worth a fortune, and her eyes widened in shock.
Alexander said coldly, "I'm giving you five minutes to get the hell out of here, or I'll have security throw you out."
Soon enough, the property's security team arrived.
Alexander was furious, berating them, "You let outsiders waltz in here freely—is this the standard of Radiant Pinnacle's property management? If this happens again, I'll have the management company terminated!"
The residents of Radiant Pinnacle were all wealthy and influential people.
Therefore, the security guards treated Alexander with utmost deference. They immediately approached Mia and ordered, "Ma'am, you need to leave immediately!"
Mia protested indignantly, "I'm also a Radiant Pinnacle resident!"
"A resident?" Alexander said coldly. "I heard the Brown family backed out and forfeited their down payment. You're not a Radiant Pinnacle resident. Get out."
Perhaps due to the stuffy air in the underground garage, Alexander loosened his tie and stepped into the elevator.
He turned around, and as the elevator doors closed, Mia was already being forcibly escorted away by security guards on either side.
Mia called out unwillingly, "Mr. Hayes! You'll regret marrying such a woman!"
The elevator doors closed, completely cutting off all the noise.
In the quiet elevator, gentle piano music played in the background.
As the elevator ascended, a soft female voice announced, "Nineteenth floor. You have arrived."
Alexander stepped out of the elevator, walked to the door, and pressed his finger to the scanner.
The door opened.
He was immediately greeted by the aroma of pizza.
This was his first time entering this apartment. Jeremy had installed all the furniture and appliances, moved in his luggage, and also brought Liam over.
Grace was still organizing the rooms, putting away all the luggage and belongings.
In the kitchen, Max was watching the pizza taking shape in the oven, while Liam beside him stared intently, practically drooling.
Max had said he would make pizza for Liam.
Liam was thrilled.
Hearing the door open, Grace immediately walked to the foyer. Seeing it was Alexander, she felt a bit awkward.
"You're home." As soon as the words left her mouth, she felt strange saying them.
It sounded as if they were newlyweds.
Alexander was in a foul mood.
Mia's words still echoed in his ears.
Max and Liam came out, and seeing Alexander, Max said, "I made lots of delicious food for Mommy and Liam today. You're lucky—you get to taste my cooking!"
Max had a proud personality. Actually, he wanted Alexander to try his cooking too.
He rarely cooked for anyone, and besides Mommy, he wouldn't willingly prepare meals for anyone else. However, Alexander and Liam had earned his approval, so today he decided to showcase his exceptional culinary skills.
But Alexander's expression didn't improve.
He looked at Max, frowning.
Whose child was this boy, anyway? Grace and which man?
This woman had never given him an answer. He originally hadn't wanted to find out, but family scandals shouldn't be aired in public.
How had this matter started circulating outside?
Alexander knew in his heart that he shouldn't have any expectations for this woman.
When she married him back then, what good intentions could she have had? What feelings could it have been based on?
He and she were complete strangers. She claimed it was her father's arrangement, that she had no choice, no other option.
But if she truly didn't want to, who could have forced her to marry a man the doctors had declared would never wake up again—a vegetative patient—and spend her life in lonely widowhood?
Yet having married him, was she so unable to bear the loneliness that she dared to have an affair with another man?
Alexander walked silently to the living room.
Max and Liam exchanged glances.
"What's wrong with him?" Max asked. "He looks terrible."
Liam shook his head.
Usually, Alexander would immediately pick up Liam and kiss his cheek, but now he seemed lost in troubling thoughts.
"Alexander..." Grace approached him. "Have you eaten dinner?"
"No appetite. You all go ahead and eat."
Alexander stood up and went into his room.
He and Grace had separate bedrooms. Jeremy was still organizing his room, and seeing Alexander enter, he stood up. "Mr. Hayes, you..."
"Get out." Alexander's tone was harsh.
Jeremy was startled. "I haven't finished organizing yet."
"Out."
Jeremy didn't dare disobey and quickly left.
The door slammed shut.
Alexander lay down on the bed. The closet doors were open—Jeremy had hung up and folded all the clothes but hadn't finished putting everything away.
Outside the door, Jeremy stared blankly at the closed door, speechless.
Not far away, Grace stood in the hallway with Max and Liam, all equally bewildered.
"Jeremy?" Grace asked. "What's wrong with him? Did something happen at the office?"
Jeremy whispered, "Who would dare give Mr. Hayes trouble?"
He walked over nervously. "Ms. Foster, did you upset Mr. Hayes again?"
"Again?" Max said. "When has my mommy ever dared to upset him? It would be good enough if he didn't give my mommy trouble."
Jeremy said, "Max, you don't understand. The way he treats you and your mom is already incredibly gentle. I've been his subordinate for years, and I'm constantly on edge. Mr. Hayes has unpredictable mood swings—he can explode at any moment when something displeases him."
Just like earlier—everything was fine when he was organizing Alexander's room, then suddenly he was kicked out.
If he had said one more word, Alexander would definitely have exploded. Jeremy, being experienced, knew better than to say anything and quietly left the room.
Max said, "With a boss like that, I would have quit long ago."
Jeremy replied, "But Mr. Hayes pays well."
Max remained silent for a long moment, then crossed his arms and said seriously, "Money talks louder than words."
