Chapter 43 Aren't You Afraid She'll Cheat on You?
An hour later.
Jeremy approached Grace and said, "Ms. Foster, everything's packed up. You can get in the car now."
Grace nodded.
Grace got into the Mercedes and drove out of the complex, with two moving trucks following close behind.
As the parking barrier slowly lifted at the community entrance and the Mercedes departed, a Maserati drove in.
The car's entrance into the complex drew curious stares from residents.
Peaceful Community was an old apartment complex. The original residents had long since moved to newer homes, and now it housed a mix of people from all walks of life—it was known as a low-income area.
A Maserati was definitely a luxury car, so many people cast envious glances its way.
The car stopped downstairs.
Mia stepped out, her glamorous outfit forming a stark contrast with the shabbily dressed elderly people at the entrance.
She removed her sunglasses and headed upstairs. Following the apartment number she'd looked up, by the time she climbed to the sixth floor, Mia's face was flushed from exhaustion.
"What kind of dump doesn't even have an elevator!" Compared to Peaceful Community, Radiant Pinnacle was practically heaven.
But thinking about how Jayden had returned the Radiant Pinnacle property made her furious all over again.
It was all Grace's fault. She wondered what tricks Grace had used. Had she really remarried? Had that man really bought the 4000-square-foot Radiant Pinnacle unit in her name?
Mia was desperate to find Grace and get answers.
Just as she reached the door, she saw a plump woman standing there while a maintenance worker finished changing the locks.
Mia walked over and looked at the completely empty apartment, then turned to the woman. "Where are the tenants who lived here?"
The landlord asked, "Who are you looking for?"
Mia said, "I'm looking for Grace. Didn't she rent this place?"
The landlord was startled, then smiled. "Oh, her! What terrible timing—she just hired a moving company and took all her things! There was even a handsome young man helping her move!"
Mia was shocked. "She moved out?"
The landlord nodded. "Yes! She married a wealthy man and is moving into a mansion!"
Mia asked dazedly, "Did she really remarry?"
The landlord said, "I only heard rumors."
The maintenance worker finished with the lock and said to the landlord, "Lock's changed. I'm heading out!"
The landlord nodded. "Alright, take care!"
She locked the door and was about to leave when Mia grabbed her arm. "What else do you know? Tell me!"
The landlord asked warily, "Who are you?"
Mia realized she was acting too agitated, so she forced a smile. "I'm her sister! She had a child out of wedlock and eloped years ago. She hasn't kept in touch with the family. I'm here because Dad said if she doesn't come home soon, he'll disown her!"
She made up a lie on the spot to deal with the landlord.
Upon hearing this, the landlord exclaimed, "Oh my! I wouldn't have guessed she was that type of woman! There were indeed some rumors when she moved here. People said she had an affair with her former boss and was fired when it came to light. But since she never brought men home, I didn't pry."
After a pause, the landlord continued, "A single woman raising a son—it's not easy! I'm divorced myself, so I felt sorry for her and never raised the rent. I never imagined... she was such a promiscuous woman."
Mia asked, "Did she move to Radiant Pinnacle?"
...
Radiant Pinnacle.
Mia parked her car at the entrance.
Radiant Pinnacle had extremely tight security—no outside vehicles were allowed in.
Just as she was about to enter, she was stopped by security. As a non-resident, she couldn't go in.
Mia made a phone call.
She had a socialite friend who lived in Radiant Pinnacle. Through that connection, she could gain access to the complex.
Mia went through considerable trouble to obtain Grace's residence information from the sales office.
A 4000-square-foot penthouse, Building 9, Unit 1, 19th floor.
She was determined to get answers from Grace today.
Using her friend's resident authorization, Mia successfully entered the complex.
In the underground parking garage, just as she parked near the entrance to Building 9, Unit 1, a bright light pierced through the darkness nearby.
An Aston Martin parked next to her car.
As soon as Mia got out of her car, she noticed the luxury vehicle and couldn't help but take a closer look.
From the car door, a pair of long legs stepped out.
Alexander's tall, elegant figure came into view.
It was him! That man.
Seeing him heading toward the elevator lobby, Mia didn't hesitate and immediately followed.
The automatic door slid open.
Alexander heard footsteps behind him and sharply turned around, immediately recognizing Mia.
"You?"
Alexander raised an eyebrow.
Wary of this unexpected visitor, Alexander asked, "How did you get in here?"
She wasn't a resident here—how could she have accessed Building 9?
The typically strict property management had somehow allowed this breach.
"You're Mr. Hayes!" Mia approached him and said, "I need to talk to you!"
"About what?"
"Did you really marry Grace?"
Alexander replied, "Do I have any obligation to report my private affairs with her to you?"
Mia asked, "She's your wife—don't you want to know about her past?"
Alexander said, "Sorry, not interested."
He turned to leave.
But Mia grabbed his arm, and she instinctively started—you couldn't tell from his clothing, but this seemingly lean man had surprisingly muscular arms.
Alexander turned around and impatiently brushed off her hand. "Miss, please show some restraint."
He suddenly raised his hand and pressed an emergency call button next to the elevator.
The alarm blared loudly.
Mia didn't know what the button was for—she just wanted to seize the time and tell this man all about Grace's sordid past!
Mia said, "Mr. Hayes! Let's speak frankly! You must know that Grace is divorced, but do you know why?"
Alexander studied her coldly, his indifferent expression saying everything.
Mia gritted her teeth and said, "Her ex-husband has been in a coma, and she married into his family to bear him a child! The man she married back then was more powerful and influential than you! And what happened? As a wife in that arranged marriage, she had an affair and got pregnant with another man's child! She was cast out by that family and became a discarded wife! How dare you marry a woman with no sense of marital fidelity—aren't you afraid she'll cheat on you?"
Alexander slowly turned around and finally looked directly at her. "Cheat on me? Who would dare cheat on me?"
