Chapter 293 Alexander Divides Assets

Chapter 293 Alexander Divides Assets

Alexander had seen right through Mary's little scheme.

Ever since her unpleasant confrontation with Grace, Mary had been nursing this grudge.

All because Grace refused to agree to changing Max's name and surname.

She firmly believed that Hayes family children should bear the Hayes name—otherwise, what was the difference between them and illegitimate children?

Thank goodness Liam had the Hayes surname. Otherwise, if all the children born carried Grace's name instead, would she be cutting off the Hayes family lineage entirely?

Emily was different. Emily was far more sensible than Grace!

At her age, she had no intention of accepting a granddaughter-in-law who constantly opposed her!

If Grace insisted on opposing her, she would refuse to consent to Grace marrying Alexander!

And Emily was precisely the tool she planned to use to keep Grace in check!

If Grace was smart, she'd quickly change Max's surname and name back.

If Grace remained stubborn, she would allow Emily to give birth to the children.

She couldn't possibly have so little influence in the Hayes family!

Alexander said, "Grandmother, I want to see Emily within fifteen minutes."

Mary tensed up slightly. "You still intend to force her to abort the children? Are you truly that heartless?"

Alexander replied, "I don't need her to bear children for me."

Mary said, "The children she bears will at least carry your surname! Unlike that Grace, who stubbornly refuses to change hers. She may be able to give you children, but I want her to know she's not the only woman who can!"

Alexander's expression darkened immediately. "So, Grandmother, you refuse to hand Emily over?"

Mary declared righteously, "Is she a criminal? She's not some criminal you need to interrogate!"

Samantha interjected, "Alexander, don't upset your grandmother! Last time, Grace was indeed going too far. Who told her to be so presumptuous? Your father and I both feel that her motives aren't simple—you should be more wary of her. For all we know, she's after your family fortune!"

She was spreading alarmist warnings.

Alexander let out a cold laugh, stood up, and headed for the stairs.

Mary hastily straightened in her seat, calling to the butler and housekeeper, "Stop him!"

She knew Alexander intended to go upstairs and find Emily himself. Mary certainly wouldn't allow that!

The butler and housekeeper reluctantly blocked Alexander's path, refusing to budge.

Alexander swept them with a cold glance. "Have you forgotten who's in charge of the Hayes family now?"

The butler lowered his head, trembling, not daring to make a sound.

The housekeeper hesitated for a long moment before stepping aside.

Just as Alexander was about to head upstairs, the driver called from outside, "Mr. William Hayes is back."

Alexander turned around. William had barely stepped through the door when he immediately sensed something was amiss with the atmosphere in the living room.

He looked toward Mary, who kept winking at him frantically.

William looked puzzled.

He had rushed back after receiving Mary's phone call. During their conversation, she had given him a rough idea of the situation, and he understood the gravity of the matter.

"Alexander..." William carefully began, "since you're rarely home, let's go upstairs and have a proper talk."

Alexander replied, "I don't have extra time to discuss things with you."

Detecting the icy tone laced with deep displeasure, William looked somewhat stunned. "I heard from your grandmother. Emily is pregnant, and you're forcing her to abort? Alexander, I'm not criticizing you, but regardless of how she became pregnant with your child, she's now the mother of your children. Forcing her to abort them is too cruel to both her and the children!"

Alexander said impatiently, "So you also disagree with me taking her away?"

William replied, "I cannot allow you to personally destroy your own children! Otherwise, you'll regret it someday!"

Alexander said, "Father, you know my temperament. If I want to take someone away, none of you can stop me, but I don't want to make this embarrassing for everyone."

"Stop talking." William waved his hand, asserting his paternal authority. "In this matter, just listen to me! Alexander, I'm your father, you're my only son—I certainly wouldn't harm you, would I?"

Upon hearing this, Samantha slightly pursed her lips, her expression turning somewhat strange.

Samantha recalled how, in order to marry William, Mary had forced her to sign a sterility agreement. Now, any woman who got pregnant with Alexander's child was allowed to give birth?

Was Mary only guarding against her specifically?!

Or did Mary simply look down on her from the bottom of her heart?

Knowing that William and Mary shared the same stance, Alexander coldly curled his lips and suddenly walked up to William, saying with economical words, "In that case, let's divide the family assets."

William froze on the spot. "Divide the assets?"

Mary hadn't expected such terminology to suddenly come from Alexander's mouth either. "Divide the assets? With whom are you dividing?"

The Hayes family had only one heir. In the future, all assets would be his. He had no brothers—there was no need to split the family fortune with anyone!

Moreover, of all the Hayes family holdings, Alexander controlled the majority. His sudden proposal to divide assets left Mary momentarily confused.

Alexander said, "Since you want Emily to give birth to the children, then let's divide the assets."

Mary would be supported by William and Samantha. As for who would raise the children Emily bore, that was none of his concern.

Whether Mary wanted to raise them or William wanted to raise them, in any case, he would not acknowledge the children she bore!

Alexander continued, "Father, from now on, you'll be responsible for taking care of Grandmother. When you're old, I'll support you. As for the children Emily gives birth to, if you want to raise them, you raise them. If you want her children to have the Hayes surname, then let them have it. But I'll say this once—even if her children carry the Hayes name, they have nothing to do with me!"

Mary showed an expression of shock and bewilderment. Before she could ask for clarification, Alexander said, "As for the distribution of my future assets, I'll divide them equally between Grace and my two children. The future Hayes family and Crest Corporation will also be inherited by these two children."

Mary was too shocked to speak!

He actually wanted to divide the family assets this way?!

William frowned deeply. "Alexander, are you serious?"

Alexander replied, "I'm naturally serious. If you want to acknowledge the children in Emily's womb, then don't acknowledge me."

With that, he turned to leave.

William quickly rushed over and grabbed his arm. "Alexander, what's gotten into you? What kind of spell has that Grace cast on you? Do you know how much your stocks and assets are worth? You want to give Grace half of it?"

That he wanted to give assets to his two children was understandable, but giving Grace half was what people found most unreasonable!
