Chapter 70: seed of mistrust and discord
Cynthia arrived at the house of Godfrey. She scanned the neighborhood before taking further steps closer to his house.
she dropped her bag and rang the doorbell twice.
"I'm coming" the voice came from inside.
Few minutes later, the door opened and there stood Godfrey, looking quite confused with the stranger before him.
"Do I know you? May I help you?
"Oh you do not know me but I know you so very well "
"What are you saying?
"I know your parents and I also know you were once engaged to Monalisa but she abandoned you at the altar and fled with a dude"
Godfrey scoffed.
"It's not a secret. People in my neighborhood knows about it"
"I know and I also know that Monalisa is currently married and has forgotten about you"
"Who the fuck are you!!
"I'm someone who's got your best interest in heart. Nice to finally meet you, Mr Godfrey Anderson" Cynthia said stretching her hand to him.
"Get lost" he said almost shutting the door at her face.
"Hey! if I were you, I wouldn't think about doing that. Let me in first and I will tell you who exactly I am"
"You must be out of your mind to think I'll do that"
"Monalisa seduced my husband and he ended everything that we shared"
"She what? I know that Monalisa can be everything but definitely not a slut"
"Yet a man helped her runaway from her wedding"
"It doesn't count to her being a slut. I can vouch for her on that"
"She's married to a man who know one knows. in fact, no one knows she's married and everyone knows that her husband is married but no one knows that Monalisa is his wife"
"What the fuck are you saying?
"It's best you let me in"
"Ugh! okay fine. Come inside" Godfrey opened the door wider, allowing Cynthia to come in dragging her box.
He shut the door once she was in and followed her.
"Take a seat. I'll fix you some snacks"
"Oh yes I'm damn hungry"
"Are you sure you ain't one of these homeless people on the streets looking for who to deceive and take them in?
"Do I look homeless? You can look up Jayden James Bruno and his secretary."
"Jayden who?
"Shut the fuck up! you don't know Jayden James Bruno? Where are you from? The mars?.
"Ha,ha. Funny. on a much serious note, who the hell is he?
"He's one of the richest Billionaire in New York city. He's got lots and lots of companies, scattered all over the world"
"Never heard of him. Cookies?
"Yes please "
"Give me a second "
Godfrey stepped out of the living room leaving Cynthia alone. Cynthia decided to tour his living room. She went through the artifacts on the fall and couldn't stop admiring them.
Godfrey returned with a glass of juice and some cookies.
"You love them? Godfrey asked, placing the juice and the plate of cookies on the table.
"Yeah. They looks so cool and nice. I'll get one of these for my house"
"Oh please. You can't afford it "
"I can. I flew all the way from New York city down here to find you. That's after... checking in on your family. What a lovely family you've got "
"Out with the truth. Who the hell are you?
"Me? Fine. I'm Cynthia. I used to be Jayden's secretary and lover. Our love life was a bliss, until that bitch came into the picture. She ruined everything that I had worked so hard for. I detest her"
"Monalisa?
"Yes. I want to teach her a lesson she wouldn't forget easily "
"I see. Now.... what do you want from me?
"Me? Nothing"
"That's a blatant lie woman. Out with the truth! you flew all the way from New York city down here to find me just for nothing?
"How did you cope with it all?
"With what exactly?
"The humiliation she caused you by running away on your wedding day. She insulted your family and... you didn't deem it fit to get back at her? Are you for real?
"What are you trying to say?
"I learnt that your family was so humiliated and became the talk of the town. Everyone murmured and gossiped about you guys. it hurt your family's pride and you couldn't do anything for your family. You didn't bother dealing with Monalisa for her evil act".
"Well... that was because I had no idea where she had ran to. I would have hunt her down and deal with her mercilessly but she couldn't be found. it's not my fault"
"And now?
"And now? I don't get it?
"Now you've got all information about her, where she is, where she lives, who She is married to and where she works...what are you going to do about it?
"Nothing? What do you want me to do about it?
"Don't you think destiny has given you a second chance to right the wrong?
"In what way?
"Haunting and hunting Monalisa down. Make her pay for hurting you especially your family "
"Is that necessary? I do not think it is"
"Of course it is. Think about the pains and everything she caused you "
Godfrey took a deep breath and exhaled softly.
"You know what... you are definitely right. I've been so mad at her and had always wanted a way to release my anger for her. Now... I've got the perfect opportunity to release my anger. I'm going to deal with her in such cruel ways"
"Now that's the spirit. We leave for New York city this weekend. What do you think?
"Sound amazing. Come, I'll take you to the guest room"
"That's so kind of you"
That was how Cynthia found Godfrey and was able to bring him down to New York city to destroy my life and ruin my marriage.
I no longer know what to do. Godfrey's threats and Jayden's growing suspicion were killing me slowly that I needed saving urgently.
Cynthia reported to work the next day, beaming with smiles as she has successfully pulled my worst enemy down to New York city to tear me apart.
Jayden became aware of Cynthia's presence and immediately called her over to his office.
Cynthia hurried over to his office in excitement.
She came to a halt at the door post and calmed her nerves.
She adjusted her gown and knocked on the door.
"Come in" A voice came from inside.
Cynthia grabbed the door handle and turned, slowly pushing the door open. Her right leg was in first before her entire body followed suit.
She walked carefully to Jayden and stood before him.
Jayden appended his signature on the last file on the table and handed it over to Athena.
Athena turned to leave, making an eye contact with Cynthia.
Athena shot a death stare at Cynthia who immediately rolled her eyes and grabbed a seat.
"You may leave us Athena"
"Yes sir" Athena replied and walked away.
"I'm all seated and waiting for you sir" Cynthia said
"Cynthia..."
"Yes sir."
"I need you to be honest with me. When I mean being honest with me...I meant, I do not want you lying against Monalisa just to find favour in my sight and create a rift between Monalisa and I. Got it?
"Yes sir. I'm ready and willing to help you by giving you the accurate answer. I promise you sir, I'm not going to lie to you "
"Is Monalisa's mum alive?
"Yes sir. She's very much alive"
"Where did you meet her?
"At the restaurant you usually have lunch. That day, I had followed you and Monalisa. you had taken her out on a lunch date. She did go into the ladies room to use the restroom and I hid in one of the convenience. I overheard her fight with a lady and she was really harsh and mean to her. Monalisa insulated the lady that the lady began to cry. When I realised that Monalisa had left the restroom, decided to check out what was going on. I saw the lady crying. I offered her my napkin to wipe her tears and I talked to her. She confused in me that Monalisa is her daughter and that Monalisa hates her so much "
"And why does Monalisa hate her mum?
"Actually sir...I was shocked when I found out about it. I really want to tell you but I know you may not believe me or might find it quite hard to digest. Maybe you should digest this fact.... Monalisa's mum is alive. No, Monalisa's parents are alive and they are...also rich"
"What!
"Yes sir. That's the truth"
"Why? Why is she a teacher then? Why did she hide it all from me? What's wrong with her?
"Maybe she hid it from you because of a reason "
"And what reason could that be?
"Maybe....that she was disowned by her parents?
"What? That's crazy!
"But the best explanation to all these issues. She must have been disowned. Maybe that's why she hates her mum who is trying to make amends"
"And what's the reason she was disowned?
"Actually. The reason she was disowned is because she ran..."
A knock interrupted their discussion and Athena walked in.
"Yes Athena, what is it?
"Sir, I thought you had followed me immediately."
"And why so?
"I think the shareholders are beginning to get impatient with you. You've got a meeting "
"Oh shit!!! I totally forgot! Fuck!! Yes. Get my things and let's head to the conference room. Uhmm... Cynthia, we'll continue with our discussion later"
"Yes sir. I'll patiently wait for you"
"Good. Come Athena"
"Yes sir"
Jayden rose on his feet, picked up his phone and walked out of his office
Athena grabbed his laptop and paused on her way out and turned back to Cynthia.
"You sure are a disgusting bitch to come sit here and cook up bullshit story and feed our boss. Well, know this, all these bullshit, Sir Jayden doesn't believe them. Just stay the hell away from sir Jayden and ma'am Monalisa! Cheap slut!
"Athena! Jayden called her form outside.
"I'm coming sir " Athena turned and walked out quickly.
Cynthia rose on her feet and grabbed her bag to leave.
"I don't care if he believes me or not. I'm glad that I have successfully sown a seed of mistrust and discord. Now, all I've got to do is water it and watch it germinate and grow into something marvelous and get Monalisa out of that house forever!! Cynthia laughed and walked out of Jayden's office..
