Chapter 54 Chapter 54

Chapter 54 Chapter 54
Camera flashes rained down on them. There could have been hundreds or even thousands; Caroline had no idea. But judging by the excitement coming from the crowd, there were well over a thousand people present.

They had all come in large numbers to see the much-talked-about Rendro wolves, especially the anomalies; a female alpha and male omega.

Caroline stepped out of the assigned limousine first, and everyone froze.

She wore a simple black turtleneck shirt, black cargo pants, and black boots. Her scent wasn't concealed, and everyone could feel the overwhelming power radiating from her wolf.

It was enormous.

Aiden stepped out next, his scent softer and calmer, his features just as gentle, yet he carried himself with a grace that didn't allow anyone to look down on him
.
Eren followed after. A true-blood alpha with not much to say.

A young alpha lord hurried down the stairs to welcome them.

"Rendros," he greeted, stretching out his hand for a handshake. "It's an honour to meet you. I'm Lord Novu and I'll be escorting you inside"

Caroline looked down at his hand and then back at his face.

"Lead the way," she said simply.

Lord Novu slowly lowered his hand, the smile on his face falling off

"Follow me," he simply said and began to walk ahead of them.

He led them through a long, ancient yet beautifully built hallway, servants bowing at every turn they took.
If Caroline and the others were impressed, they didn't let it show.

Suddenly, Novu stopped in front of a pair of massive doors, and so did the others.

"Behind these doors, the elders await," he said, gripping the handles. "I suggest you keep your attitudes in check in there if you want to reach an agreement."

"Open the door already" Caroline cut him off. "We barely have all day."

Novu gritted his teeth at her arrogance but pushed the doors open nevertheless.

Nineteen people sat around a large circular table.
Novu joined them, making it twenty.

Sixteen men.

Four women.

The oldest man from the look of things, seated at the head of the table, spoke first.

"Please, sit, Rendros."

They did and immediately Caroline spoke up

"In exchange for those captives, we have a few demands. We want our pack land, which is currently desolate and fortified by armed forces. We want a decree from you that stops other packs from attacking us, and another that grants us complete freedom to live as our own people, not as slaves at the mercy of other packs."

The room fell silent before the eldest spoke again.

"Straight to the point, I see." He rose to his feet and slowly walked around the table. "You look even younger than your video messages let on."

Caroline's hands clenched into tight fists.

"A young divine soldier who is truly different from the versions I've seen so far."

He stopped in front of her, causing her pheromones to spike up, releasing the bitterest scent any of them had ever experienced.

Eren had his mask on and even raised a hand over his own face to shield himself and his other hand to shield Aiden.

Any normal alpha would've dropped to the floor choking, but these twenty wolves remained seated like the atmosphere didn't just change to something suffocating just now.

The elder smirked.

"There it is. The most vicious wolf I've ever seen; a divine wolf."

He turned and calmly walked back to his seat.
Only then did Caroline relax.

"We've heard your request, young Rendros, and we're prepared to do more to rectify the errors of the past," one of the women said.

Caroline scoffed.

"Errors of the past? You mean annihilating innocent people to hide your own errors?"

The room fell silent once again, as though every one of them had been forced to relive those memories.

This time, a tall man with long white hair broke the silence.

"Although the Council owes you no explanation, I'll give you one."

His voice was as deep as the ocean.

"Everything that has happened to Rendro up until today was the result of the actions of one man; Stylus Grey, a former Alpha Lord from Rendro who almost ran mad in search of power."

By the end of the day, the exchange was made.
The Council fulfilled all of Caroline's demands and even more.

They ordered the release of every Rendro wolf being held across the world, and they promised to help rebuild the pack from the ground up.

"What about their demand?" Aiden asked and Caroline rolled her eyes at that.

"You actually believed the words of those lying scums? They just want someone to do their dirty work, and it won't be me."

"What if it's true?"

"It's not."

"I'm telling you, Caroline."

Aiden's voice dropped to a whisper, making Caroline stare at him in surprise.

"What do you know?"

"That mark... the one they talked about. I've seen it on a child. A Rendro child."

Caroline's eyes widened for only a second before her expression hardened.

"Say no more, Aiden."

"But..."

Caroline shot him a warning glare, and he immediately fell silent.

"Ma'am, we're ready to leave," Eren said as he walked up to them.

Caroline nodded and he walked ahead, leaving her alone with Aiden for a moment.

She turned back to him.

"No one else hears about this. Understood?"

Aiden pressed his lips together before nodding.

"Let's go."

"What's wrong, Jaden? Feeling sleepy?"

The little boy nodded as he buried his face in his mother's neck.

Jeremy softly patted his back with one hand while scrolling through his phone with the other.
Drey walked in just then and sighed at the sight before him.

"Hah... you guys look so comfy, I'm so jealous."

Jeremy stretched out an arm toward him.

"Come here."

Drey smiled.

Instead of squeezing in beside them, he carefully picked up the sleepy Jaden and laid the boy against his own chest while Jeremy cuddled up beside him so the alpha wrapped an arm around him.

Drey sighed contentedly.

This felt good.

A family he could finally call his own.

The next time he woke up, he was alone and the sound of cheering and party music echoed outside.
Jeremy walked in moments later with a huge smile on his face.

"Hey there, sleepyhead."

"What's going on?" Drey asked, his voice still groggy.

"Caroline's back. Everything went well, so everyone will be moving to the pack land soon. And we can finally go home too."

"That's good news." Drey laughed happily as he pulled Jeremy into a hug. "Let's get married once we get home," he said.

Jeremy nodded.

"I can't wait to see my mum and dad again, hopefully Chris is home too."

Drey pecked his cheek.

"Come on, we should join the party. Where's Jaden?"

"Already out there eating cake with the other kids."

And so they joined the celebration, which lasted all night.

Caroline stood atop the highest hill outside their small settlement, gazing up at the moon. Aiden joined her shortly afterwards, and the two stood in silence, staring into the night.

"I confirmed what you said," Caroline finally spoke as she turned to Aiden, her face serious. "But like I instructed earlier, it stays a secret."

"Even from his parents."

"Especially his parents. We can't trust the Council." She breathed "A Rendro alpha who orchestrated evil against his own pack just to get his hands on a prophesied wolf that might bring about the end of the world?"Caroline scoffed. "Sounds like bullshit to me. Besides, the mark I saw wasn't like the one they described. The one on that child was a half moon. They said the prophesied destroyer bears a full moon, not half. So don't let their bullshit get into your head and make you dance to their tune."

"Understood?"

Aiden nodded and descended the hill, leaving Caroline alone.

She let out a tired sigh.

"If only you were here, Alpha Chris, you'd give better instruction on what to do."

"Where the hell are you?"
