Chapter 52 Chapter 52
Chapter 52 Chapter 52
Caroline released an official statement that day directed at the world and its leaders.
In the video she recorded, Caroline uncovered the faces of their captives; the leaders of the twelve packs that attacked them.
"The world pronounced peace, yet they used their back hand to try to end us again. What happened to never going back on their word?"
She pushed one of the leaders forward, who looked seconds away from dying from how badly he had been injured
"The world leaders should keep their word so we can keep ours. We'll live peacefully like you said, but if anyone fires at us, we'll fire back."
The world leaders replied to the video almost immediately with a simple message.
"Release the hostages. Let's talk."
"You think this might be a trap?" Aiden asked as they gathered everyone in the pack house that night.
Caroline sighed.
"At this point, we can only take the risk if we're to return to our pack land."
Everyone agreed.
"That's all, let's take a brea—"
"One more thing."
Jeremy's voice interrupted as he stood up to face Caroline, his arms folded across his chest.
"Can you involve everyone in your decision-making all the time? It would've been nice to have known about that war plan before the fight even happened. What if I wasn't mentally prepared? And why...was I the only one not informed in the first place?"
Drey pinched the bridge of his nose as he thought.
'Yeah... little Mister Sassy was back.'
He had told Jeremy everything that had happened before the fight, how Mica knew about the war before hand and held a gun to their head and locked them up to stop them from interfering.
Jeremy had been furious at Mica for not telling him anything, even though they'd been dining and talking together, and at Caroline and Aiden for the same reason.
The air in the house shifted as everyone stiffened, fearing for Jeremy. Caroline had a bad reputation for having the worst temper, so it came as a surprise when she awkwardly rubbed the back of her neck, refused to meet the omega's eyes, and spoke quietly.
"I'm sorry about that. We only did that so the foreigners couldn't know."
Jeremy was taken aback by her sudden meekness but, still looking for a reason to vent, continued.
"Are you trying to say I look like a snitch?"
"Well... one is your mate, another your brother, and the last is your best friend."
Jeremy opened his mouth to say something but held himself back.
"Maybe you were right... but never do that again."
Caroline smiled and nodded, feigning only half her usual annoyance.
Drey grabbed Jeremy's arm and pulled him close.
"If that's all, we'll take our leave."
He said before pulling the older omega along.
"Jealous much" Aiden said still looking at the duo walking away as he walked over to Caroline, who was still smiling.
"Hey, stop that. It's freaky."
Then Caroline sighed.
"He reminds me of my dada. If only he was alive to see this day."
Aiden rubbed her back gently making her sigh again.
"Still, I'm grateful I got to see it with all of you."
Aiden smiled and so did everyone else.
Caroline straightened her posture.
"Let's get ready to have that talk with those old fellows, Aiden, Eren, Natasha, you're coming with me"
"Hey, what the fuck was that?" Jeremy asked, annoyed as he broke away from Drey's hold.
"I should be asking you, Jeremy. You saw the looks she was giving you, yet you were..."
"What look?"
"You know what look, Jeremy. Don't fucking play dumb."
"You're the dumb one, Drey. Always fighting over meaningless things." Jeremy scoffed. "And just when I thought you really did grow up."
"The fuck you say?" Drey asked.
"The fuck you hear." Jeremy shot back before breaking into a run as Drey dashed after him.
Eventually, they walked hand in hand into the pack's hospital and their faces immediately went sour at the sight before them.
Mica was sitting up now, though her body was still wrapped in bandages and casts from poisoned wounds that were taking too long to heal while Oliver leaned over her kissing her shamelessly.
"Can you both not be in each other's faces for a moment?"
They startled apart but didn't look sorry to have been caught.
"Hey, what's popping?" Oliver asked cheerfully
"Nothing much. Caroline is handling everything," Drey said as he walked over. "She'll be going to meet the elders tomorrow."
"I'll go with her. This might be a trap."
Drey nodded as he walked closer to her, a mocking look on his face.
"Look at you, all busted up and still acting high and mighty."
Mica rolled her eyes.
"I can still carry my weight, man. These..." She gestured at her injuries. "...are nothing to an alpha like me."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah." Drey mimicked her tone "An alpha like you will not survive another attack."
"Well, this is nothing compared to my pack's freedom."
"Which you've already done a lot for. Let those who are strong do the fighting. You won't die if you stay still and recover."
"Pussy alphas like you can think that. Not me."
"Well, who's the one with a pussy?"
Because of their bickering, they didn't notice Jeremy quietly call Oliver away for a talk on the rooftop.
"What's up?" Oliver asked as they reached the top.
"Well..." Jeremy began as he looked everywhere except at Oliver. He scratched the back of his neck awkwardly. "I never really got to apologize to you... for how I treated you before I lost my memories. I... I never should've been so mean to you. I'm sorry."
"How ironic." Oliver chuckled. "I thought I'd forgiven you, but knowing that the Jeremy I know... the one who remembers me—is back, it brings back those memories, and I get mad at you all over again."
Jeremy let out a sigh as he looked down.
They stayed silent for a while as Oliver stared at him.
"Why did you do it? And don't tell me it's because you turned out to be an omega."
"I didn't want you to hate me, Oliver. I was scared you might be repulsed by me if you knew, so I pushed you away so you'd never find out."
"Whatever your reason was, Jeremy, your reason hurt even more than the act itself."
Oliver's voice sounded pained.
"You knew how much I loved you. We were closer than friends, closer than brothers, yet you thought so little of me when you were going through the darkest moment of your life. You preferred to go through it alone"
"Oliver..."
"And because of that, I also went through mine alone. But I was willing to look past that, which was why I followed you to Esperado to reconcile with you, but what did you do?" Oliver sighed as he walked over to Jeremy and lifted his chin. "You made me feel so little, like a fool chasing a lost cause."
"I'm sorry, Oliver. Please forgive me."
Oliver said nothing and walked past him making a single tear run down his cheek, but he quickly wiped it away.
"This is just the first try," he mumbled. "I'll keep trying until..."
He gasped when someone suddenly turned him around and pulled him into a warm hug.
Oliver
"I've already forgiven you, dumbass." The blond alpha tightened the hug. "Since that night I found you at the beach... I understood everything you did."
Jeremy buried his face into Oliver's neck as he hugged him back tightly.
"I missed you, Oliver. Thank you." He mumbled into his neck. "I promise never to swat you away like a fly ever again."
Oliver sucked in a breath before catching Jeremy by the ear.
"I see you're being mischievous now huh. Daring to tease me with the past."
"Ow, ow!"
Jeremy cried while laughing at the same time.
Drey walked in at that moment and his eyes widened at the scene of his mate being attacked, and he immediately got between them and pushed Oliver away.
"What the fuck are you doing to my mate?" He glared at Oliver before turning to Jeremy. "Babe, are you okay?"
Oliver stared at the scene and suddenly felt a sense of déjà vu. Back in Esperado, at the stairs of the school library. He'd seen this before.
Jeremy shook his head to Drey's question.
"Oliver's been mean to me."
Drey's eyes widened, and he was about to pounce on the other alpha when Jeremy grabbed him around the waist, laughing.
"I'm joking. Man, you alphas are too serious."
"Jeremy..." Drey drawled out with a reprimanding look but the omega shrugged with a happy smile.
"Did that thought inspire the serious way you acted when you were pretending to be an alpha?" Oliver asked making Jeremy laugh again as he walked over to the railing and leaned against it.
"Maybe... maybe not. I just needed to look like an alpha."
Jeremy heard the click of a camera and looked up to see two phones pointed at him.
He blushed.
"What the hell...?"
"I couldn't help it," Oliver said quickly as he pocketed his phone, ignoring Drey's burning glare. "The sun setting behind you looks so pretty"
"Whatever." Jeremy sighed and a comfortable silence settled between them as they watched the sun go down futher
"After all this, let's all go back to Delrago... let's go home." Jeremy broke the silence.
"What about Rendro?" Oliver asked
"Well I'm a Delrago werewolf first before Rendro. Hopefully, people at home would still treat me as their own. I miss the land I grew up in, and Rendro... I can always visit, can't I?"
"Of course you can," Oliver was quick to say as he walked over and draped an arm around him. "And you know you're Delrago's little prince. There's no way anyone can hate you. Also Mica doesn't look like she'll be leaving her pack so you and I can always visit together."
Drey threw Oliver's arm off his mate and replaced it with his own.
"There won't be space for you on our private jet, Oliver, so I'll be visiting Rendro with my mate and pup alone"
"Oh my... is that how rich my alpha is?" Jeremy gushed exasperatedly and Drey brush his hair back with his fingers
"You have no idea babe. I'm going to spoil you rotten"
Oliver scoffed.
"You bloody show-off."
The couple paid him little attention, too lost in their flirting.
"I'm going to meet my mate. Fuck you both."
With that, he walked away, leaving the two of them laughing.
"It's not going to be for much longer, my love and we'll soon go home."
Jeremy hummed in agreement.
"I'd like that"
Drey suddenly dropped to one knee.
"Hey... what are you doing?" Jeremy panicked.
"You've been the best thing that's happened to me in forever."
"Drey..."
"Shit... I'm not the poetic type." Drey cursed as nothing came to mind making a Jeremy laugh as he shakes his head. His cheeks burning red.
"Would you do me the honor of being my husband for life?"
Jeremy dropped to his knees as he hugged the alpha.
"Yes Drey"
