Chapter 47 Chapter 47
Chapter 47 Chapter 47
"Percy, I didn't know Erika's origin ran this deep,"
Ramsey said as he walked up to the alpha who was chilling in one of the VIP lounges.
The council had called for an hour's break. The meeting was so going to run till the next day and maybe even the next.
"Alpha," Percy greeted the older man, whom he really respected. "Well most people didn't, but even she suffered scrutiny when those attacks began, and people who once knew about her began to fear and avoid her. That only strengthened her decision to help her pack."
Ramsey nodded.
"And the identities of the wolves who started all these?"
"She didn't say." Percy chuckled before his expression turned sad. "As she was dying in her arms all she managed to say was that she did it; she'd gotten rid of those monsters responsible for the war. But even as the years passed, I didn't believe that there were other people behind the war or maybe I just wanted a reason to blame Rendro Pack for her death and so wish them bad. But then my son found his mate, who turned out to be a male omega, and lost him shortly after. And to think that, for hating them so much, I might have been one of the sponsors of the death of my son's mate"
Ramsey sighed as he leaned back in his chair.
"We all have our regrets, and I guess this is karma's way of paying us back."
"What are you talking about?"
"My second child was a male omega," Ramsey said, making Percy's eyes widen in surprise.
"How so? You and Luna are both—"
"He's not our biological child," Ramsey cut him off, his eyes tired. "I was supposed to kill the child along with his mother during my last raid, but I couldn't bring myself to do it, so I took him in. Jeremy was a sweet child, just like everyone I've ever known from Rendro. But when he turned out to be an omega, I was so tempted to end his life swiftly to prevent him from going through even worse torture in the future."
Ramsey shook his head and dragged his palms down his tired looking face
"But the kid wanted to live so badly. He faked his pheromones, his scent, everything, and tried to become an alpha. I just couldn't bring myself to harm him, and yet in the end, his life was taken away because of the one thing that wasn't his fault."
Ramsey sniffled. "I haven't been able to forgive myself since, and I see this movement as a way to redeem myself, even if it's just a little."
"Alpha, you shouldn't blame yourself too much..."
"Father!"
Drey burst into the room, but seeing the two men in such an emotional state; Percy patting Ramsey's shoulder while the older alpha seemed to be crying into his palm—he calmed down.
"Excuse me," he said and was about to leave when Ramsey stood up.
"No, no, you stay, young Locsin. I was just about to leave." Ramsey said and reached for the door. His shoulders slumped, and just as he opened it to leave
Drey spoke softly.
"Jeremy's still alive, Alpha."
Ramsey's eyes widened as he swiftly turned back to face Drey, who nodded.
"And Chris knew about it. No... he was actually the one who hid him from everyone and convinced us all that he was dead."
Ramsey opened his mouth as if to say something, but Drey cut him off.
"Ask Chris. He's the only one who can answer any more questions."
With that, the old alpha paused for while and then left the room.
Percy sighed.
"What did you say to him? I didn't know you'd be here, Drey. Weren't you in the Netherlands?"
"Father, everything you said in there... was it true? Was my mother really a Rendro alpha born of a male omega? Why didn't you tell me about this? Why did I have to hear it along with everyone else today?"
"The answer to all your questions is the same. It was forbidden to talk about the Rendro Pack, and there's no way I could talk about Erika without it when she is part of the story."
"Still..."
"Don't drag me down that memory lane once more. It's too sad, especially for you, who also lost your mate, Drey."
Drey sighed.
"Don't lump me in with you, Dad. I found my mate again. He's alive, healthy, and we have a son."
Percy almost spluttered the drink he was drinking as he stared wide-eyed at his son.
"Your mate's alive? And you have a child? I have a grandchild?"
"Hey, Dad, calm down," Drey said, trying to settle the man who was trembling with both relief and excitement.
"Where are they, son? Can I see them? I want to see them."
"Dad!" Drey laughed, caught off guard by his father's unexpectedly adorable antics. "They can't come out yet until we convince these people to let them live."
Percy fell back into his chair with a relieved sigh.
"I can now die and meet your mother without regrets, son," Percy said firmly. "Now those old men just have to let go of their grudges. I don't mind pulling a few strings here and there to make that happen."
"Don't break your back doing so, Dad. I think they just need a little push now. Your grandson should see you in good shape."
"It's a boy?" Percy asked, making Drey nod with a smile. "I'm happy for you, son."
"Thanks, Dad."
Drey bit his lip thoughtfully.
"About Mom..."
"I'll tell you everything once this is over, though there's not much left to say anymore."
"Still, I want to hear everything."
Percy nodded.
"It's a promise."
The meeting resumed shortly after that, and this time the debate was intense.
Those opposing the movement brought up the fear of history repeating itself. If the Rendro Pack was allowed to exist again, someone—or some people—might use them just like they had in the past.
But the supporters argued that there were now weapons capable of bringing down a divine wolf in the blink of an eye, unlike thirty years ago when every battle was fought with claws and fangs along.
History would not repeat itself if the younger generation learned a better way to deal with the problem instead of hiding it from them
The debate dragged on and on.
One side couldn't agree that anything good could ever come from the Rendro Pack.
Another believed they had suffered enough.
The rest simply didn't care.
"This is going nowhere."
The Blood Moon Pack Alpha banged his fist on the table as he stood up.
"As for me and my pack, we'll have nothing to do with the Rendro Pack, and they should never cross into my territory for whatever reason either"
He walked up to the moderator, drafted his agreement swiftly, tore the skin of his thumb slightly with his fangs, and pressed his blood onto the paper.
"I'm going to get some fucking sleep," he muttered before walking away with his followers.
"Alpha Asad never takes these things seriously because his pack was never affected, so he feels nothing," Magnus said.
"I and my pack also withdraw completely from attacking the Rendro Pack," the Delrago Pack Alpha announced, making everyone stop to look at him.
"From this day forth, we will no longer hunt them down or kill them."
Some alphas let out mocking snickers.
"How ironic. Delrago Pack, whose soldiers have always had the highest kill count since the purge began. If that pack ever gets back on its feet, your pack will be the first on its hit list."
"If that is the case," the Delrago Alpha replied calmly, "then my pack will accept it as retribution."
Ramsey walked forward, drafted his agreement, and sealed it with blood before returning to his seat amid the murmuring crowd.
His head was held high.
Chris, who sat beside his father, began to stand, but his father placed a firm hand on his shoulder to stop him.
"You've done enough," his father conveyed through their mind link.
Earlier, Chris had told the old man everything when he demanded answers.
The old alpha had been disappointed that Chris had hidden the truth about Jeremy for so long even though his reason was that it was to save him. Ramsey wished his son had at least given him heads up, but relief also washed over him when Chris told him about the surviving Rendro wolves and how he had been keeping them safe someplace, including Jeremy.
That alone felt like Delrago had redeemed itself a little. But that was all he could do. If Chris publicly revealed that he had rescued so many Rendro wolves, it would put both his pack and the new Rendro Pack at risk.
So Chris gritted his teeth and remained seated while the meeting continued.
The meeting dragged on until the next day, with two-thirds of those present signing their blood in support of Rendro's freedom, while the remaining third disagreed.
As they lined up to sign a disagreement petition , Percy spoke up.
"This isn't a threat, but I'll be withdrawing from my business dealings or associations with any pack that chooses to remain trapped in the dark past."
"Whatever. You're not the only businessman we're dealing with," one of the opposing wolves scoffed.
"I'll be withdrawing too," another influential figure declared.
Then another.
And another.
By the end, many of the weaker packs that had initially opposed the movement changed their minds and signed the treaty instead.
And so, by the end of the meeting, the High World Government leaders reached a conclusion.
Across the world, people listened in complete silence as they delivered their verdict.
