Chapter 46 Chapter 46

Chapter 46 Chapter 46
Eventually, it was the next day and they had to leave. Drey, Chris, Oliver and Eren

"I want to come along too" Jeremy said to Drey as he prepared to leave making the alpha turn and draped his arms over the omega's shoulder

"No, Jeremy, you need to stay here," Drey said

"But I'm scared. What if things don't go as planned? What then?"

Drey pulled the scared omega into his arms while Chris, who had his back to them as he load the chopper, listened in. His heart ached from wishing he was the one comforting Jeremy instead, but he gritted his teeth and bit down the desire. Not now

"Everything will be okay, and if it ever turns out otherwise, I'll be here to protect you and our child."

Jeremy sighed as he buried his face in the alpha's chest.

"Make sure you come back, Drey. Don't make me forget you again."

"I'll come back Jeremy, as soon as possible" Drey said as he tightened his hug and kissed him. "You won't even notice I'm gone"

"You sure you don't want to come along?" Oliver asked, to which Mica shook her head.

"I'm home, Oliver. This is home. So while you guys fight for us from the outside, I'll do anything to protect the pack from the inside."

Oliver smiled as he pulled her into a hug.

"You're such a patriot." Oliver teased as he rocked her softly in his arms

"What can I say? I finally get to wander around without a skin patch in like forever."

"We should leave!" Chris called as the helicopter gears to life

Oliver and Drey bid their farewells before running out like soldiers going to war.

Chris turned around and spared a long glance at Jeremy who looked away. He joined the other three, his heart heavy.

Was this really the end for him and Jeremy?

Mica placed a comforting hand on Jeremy's shoulder as they watched the three men and one other Rendro alpha get on the helicopter and disappear into the sky.

"You think they'll be alright?"

"They will be. Let's believe in them."

The meeting took a long time to start as many great pack leaders refused to participate until the very last minute when it became an order from the world leaders' office. And even when they arrived, every fibre of their being showed that they did not want to participate in anything concerning the freedom talks of the Rendo Pack.

"I say never!!"

A voice boomed from the front rows of the large conference hall, and an alpha limped forward.

He was large, his scent heavy and his aura suppressing those of lower ranks.

He limped to the front stage and stood before the crowd, his face stern.

"I can't believe you all are bringing up this motion in the first place!!" Alpha Magnus thundered, ignoring the moderator's warning. "After everything they did to the world? I lost my family, half my pack, half my body, and all of my soul. After their devastating attacks thirty years ago, no one in the world remained the same. My pack still lives with the nightmares they left behind. We have more graves than family to mourn for, even after thirty years."

"He's right," another alpha said from within the crowd.
He stood in his military regalia, his frown deep. "Even after the Purge twenty-six years ago, my pack still lives in paranoia. The youths may have forgotten since they did not witness the horrors, but you elders shouldn't."

"But you all will also agree that they've paid a hefty price for something not all of them had a hand in."
Percy's voice thundered over everyone's, and the hall became silent.

Drey hadn't been able to see his father from the crowd until now, when he spoke out and stood up.

Percy wasn't a huge man like the rest of them. He had never liked to exercise unless it brought business deals or money.

But as he spoke, everyone paid attention because he too was a force to be reckoned with. Nobody would want to lose favor with the one man who could make others withdraw from developing their economy.

Once again, Drey felt proud of his father.

"A few wicked people from their own pack, along with others from different packs who wanted power, came together and forcefully imprisoned their male omegas, forcing them to have children before ripping those children away from them in order to raise the perfect killing machines, which they turned out to be, thereby victimizing the Rendo Pack too."

"Sounds like fiction to me..."

"But these are facts Alpha Magnus. If only the world government had done the job properly then by investigating rather than declaring war, we would have found out the mastermind behind all that bloodshed and dealt with it from the root"

"And you know that because?" another alpha asked, and the others scrutinized him.

Percy stayed silent for a while, unable to say anything as his eyes filled with emotion.

"My mate was one of those children ripped away from their male omega mother at birth."

Drey's eyes widened, and the hall erupted into murmurs until the moderator silenced everyone, giving Percy the chance to continue.

"It's thirty-five years now since I went on vacation with my family to the outskirts of Delrago. One night, while we were all walking back to our cottage, we saw her... a small girl lying in the mud in a pool of her own blood with thick, long gashes all over her body and her clothes torn apart.

Sympathetically, my parents took her in, cleaned her up, and tended to her injuries. She survived, healed fast even.

My mother stayed with her all night, watching as she slept soundly, but the moment my father walked into the room and she sensed his alpha blood, her eyes shot open and, in the blink of an eye, she had torn a large gash across my father's chest and was gripping him by the neck.
Her eyes were green, her teeth bared, and her fangs and claws were out, I had never seen a wolf that ferocious before. I was only fifteen. I hadn't presented yet, and the other neighbors who came to help were all betas. None of us could pry her away. My mother could only cry in fear, but when my father began to turn pale, she did what no one expected.
She stepped between her and my father and hugged her.
That small act made her eyes return to their normal color, her fangs and claws retracted, she let go of my father and collapsed onto my mother's chest, hyperventilating."

The murmuring resumed as nobody understood the point, but once again they were silenced by the moderator.

"Please continue, Percy."

"Since then she remained quiet. Her voice was only heard when eating her food like a beast or whenever an alpha came too close and she growled. For everything else, she either showed no emotion or intense hatred, but around omegas she became calm, like their scents put her at ease."

"How do you know she was one of those children?"
"'My name is 0967.' That was the first thing she ever said after months of living together"

When Mother pressed further, she told her that where she came from, they had no mothers—only alphas who tortured them from morning till night to instill courage and a numbness to pain in them. The other children all got accustomed to it, but she couldn't."

"She hated the lashes, the chains, the thorns, the blood, and the cries of those who couldn't take it.
Those who were weak died and were tossed away like nothing. They were not allowed to talk to each other, but when one of them became too weak to continue, they were instructed to kill them. No one could have been raised properly in that environment. Even she who had escaped, it took her years to become something close to normal."

"How did she escape then?" The moderator asked, mirroring others curiosity, this was the first time they heard something about a Rendro divine alpha that wasn't a blood bath or violence.

"She escaped on the night she presented as an alpha. She saw a small chance as she shifted and ran through the woods, she was met with Alphas that tried to stop her but she overpowered them and got away" Percy sighed and everyone remained quiet

"Everyone who heard about her felt pity for her and became warmer towards her and so she was named Erika. My father's men began to investigate her story in hopes of saving the other kids, but because Erika had no idea where she came from or how far she had traveled, the investigation took a long time"

"What's the point of this Percy?" Magnus asked annoyed because he could see some people's emotion begin to sway "surely you're not trying to make us believe they're all not monsters"

"Exactly. Erika was no monster, she continued living with us and began to behave more normally. She no longer growled at alphas and spoke politely. She ate like a normal person too but never walked away from a challenge. On her eighteenth birthday, even though she knew I was her mate, she said nothing until I too turned eighteen. I walked up to her as she stared at the moon. She was beautiful. Under the moonlight, she looked like an angel—a divine creature to be worshipped.
Yet she looked upon the moon wistfully as she said to me, 'It's okay if you don't want me. I'll understand.'
But I had loved her from the very beginning, and being her mate was the Moon Goddess's answer to my prayers. Yet she cried even more as I pulled her into my arms and claimed her.
As we grew, she smiled more, laughed more, felt more, and in more ways than one became more human than anyone seated here."

Murmurs filled the air.

No one could believe that a divine alpha was capable of being that human.

'Maybe she was just an ordinary alpha' they thought
Drey just looked shocked.

He was hearing about his mother after so long, and she was a divine alpha? A woman like Mica?

"Two years later, the first attack by the soldiers took place, and she immediately knew it was them; those children she had grown up with" Percy continued.

"Their methods of killing were all the same, just as they had been taught. At that time, the people who had taken it upon themselves to investigate her origins traced them back to the Rendo Pack, where they also discovered that, for years, many male omegas had gone missing."

Percy paused, and the whole hall went silent.

Those who remembered reminisced about the first news of the divine soldiers' attacks.

It had been so bone chilling to know that a few wolves could wipe out an entire pack in the blink of an eye.

"And then the attacks continued for four years, destabilizing the world. Delrago didn't directly take a hit, but many of our pack members living in other packs didn't make it, and so we also shared in the anger and hatred for those young demons sprawling across the earth. So we joined hands with the world government to destroy these soldiers, which we did, even though we incurred many losses.
That battle went on for years. Erika and I participated by providing funding and everything needed for the defense of my pack.
We did everything we could to participate in stopping those vile monsters."
He paused again and took a deep breath.

"Everything was going okay, and the world was winning, but then the world government decided the threat wouldn't end until it was purged from the root, and so the massacre of the Rendo Pack was declared."

Everyone took a deep breath, those events replaying vividly in their minds.

"And we all watched it happen. We took part. We closed our borders so none of them could pass through. When Erika conceived years later, she held our baby, looked at him, and burst into tears.
She wasn't as happy as she thought she would be because, whether we admit it or not, she was Rendro and that made our son partly Rendro too."

Percy sighed

"Soon after, she filtered back into her pack, not to fight, but to find out what really had been going on, who took those omegas all those years ago and made them their baby factory for killers. And she found out who they were at the expense of her life, but she didn't go down alone, she took them along with her, managed to crawl back to Delrago and died in my arms"
