Have thought have dreams
Shane looked up at him, not denying it at all!
Henry understood immediately.
"President Robinson," Henry suggested cautiously, "since you do like Miss Norris, why do you still let Lydia work at the company? Women are petty. If Miss Norris sees her, she will definitely be unhappy, and that won't help you develop your relationship with her."
Shane let out a cold snort. "She pushed me towards another woman. Do you think she can develop feelings for me?"
Henry was at a loss for words!
Indeed.
If someone truly likes you, they can't stand the thought of another woman being close to you, right?
In the world of emotions, everyone has a kind of purity.
When you truly love someone, it's impossible to share your man with anyone else!
"President Robinson, since she has no feelings for you, why not let her marry Kane? A forced relationship won't be sweet. Besides, you can confine her for a while, but can you imprison her for a lifetime?"
Shane's face turned icy. "Even if she doesn't like me, I won't allow her to be with another man."
Henry was speechless.
So, if he can't have her, no one else can?
Isn't that a bit too domineering?
He couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for Callie. At the same time, he thought she was being ungrateful. How lucky was she to catch Shane's eye? And Shane had already been so indulgent with her.
Why couldn't she appreciate that?
"Mr. Ortiz, no matter how you look at it, he's no match for you. What does she see in him?" Henry was utterly baffled.
Shane let out a cold snort. "She's blind."
Henry blinked, finding himself agreeing with him.
"Do you want to go see her?" Henry asked.
"No. When does the meeting start?" Shane responded with a question.
"One-thirty," Henry answered.
"Go get ready," Shane said in a tone so indifferent that it was impossible to guess his mood.
Henry left the office, and Lydia was approaching the door.
She smiled brightly, "Assistant Henry."
"Do you need something?" Henry asked.
"I'm here to see Shane," she said, her smile wide and her eyes sparkling.
For some reason, every time Henry heard Lydia call out "Shane," he felt extremely uncomfortable. He thought this woman lacked modesty and was intentionally trying to seduce him!
He didn't like women who threw themselves at men.
It made them seem cheap and lacking in any self-respect.
However, Shane didn't kick her out like he used to. It probably had something to do with that jade pendant.
He remembered that the jade pendant was very important to him, but Shane had given it to Lydia, saying he was returning to its rightful owner. Henry figured Shane's tolerance for Lydia must be because of that pendant.
He sighed!
Shane had never had women around him, and now suddenly there were two!
It was clear that Lydia liked him, while Shane liked Callie.
Henry couldn't help but marvel at this complicated love triangle.
"You can go in now," he said before walking away.
Lydia didn't enter the office immediately. Instead, she used the mirror on the back of her phone case to check her makeup. Once she was sure it was flawless, she straightened her skirt and walked in.
"President Robinson..." Lydia approached.
She only called him 'Shane' in public, making it seem like she had a close relationship with him.
But when facing Shane alone, she wouldn't address him that way.
Shane's face was expressionless, even cold. "What is it?"
Lydia smiled, "Yes, Grandpa said we should go back to the old house for dinner tonight."
"I'm busy. You go by yourself," Shane rejected her outright.
Lydia looked disappointed and unwilling to give up. "I asked your secretary. You don't have any engagements tonight..."
"I don't like people prying into my affairs," his face darkened visibly.
Lydia hurried to explain, "I didn't mean to pry. I just asked casually..."
Shane, growing impatient, said, "I have things to do. You should get back to your work."
Still unwilling to give up, Lydia said, "Grandpa is an elder. When he asks us to come back, we should..."
"I'll explain it to him myself," Shane cut her off, unwilling to continue the conversation. He stood up and walked out of the office, heading towards the meeting room.
Lydia caught up to him. "Why are you being so cold to me?"
Shane frowned and turned to glare at her. "What, I got you a job, and now I have to be responsible for you for life?"
Lydia was at a loss for words. "It's not that..." she hurried to explain. "I heard from my grandpa that the jade pendant belonged to the girl who saved you, and that pendant is mine. I don't remember everything clearly, but I do remember that I fell into the water when I saved someone as a child. Isn't it a bit heartless to treat your savior so coldly?"
"And how exactly do you want me to treat you?" Shane retorted coldly. Before Lydia could respond, he sneered, his tone dripping with sarcasm. "You saved me, and I got you a job. Isn't that repayment enough? What more do you want?"
Lydia shook her head vigorously. "I don't want anything..."
"Good, then just do your job and don't overstep your boundaries. And from now on, have your department manager deliver documents. You don't need to show up in my office anymore." his words were merciless.
There was a time when he couldn't forget the girl who saved him.
Especially those eyes, which often appeared in his dreams.
But now, Lydia was standing right in front of him.
His heart remained completely unmoved.
There wasn't even a trace of that feeling anymore.
He knew exactly what Lydia's intentions were, yet he still kept her around. He had been more than lenient with her!
Lydia's face turned from pale to ashen, then to a deep, liver-red shade.
She looked absolutely dreadful.
The phrase "trying to steal a chicken only to end up losing the rice used to lure it" perfectly described her current situation.
Not only did she fail to get closer to Shane, but she also made him dislike her even more.
It was truly a case of losing more than gaining!
"President Robinson..."
Shane ignored her and walked away.
Lydia stood there, trembling with anger, her chest heaving with heavy breaths.
Entering the conference room, Shane called Henry over and whispered, "Transfer Lydia to the branch office."
Henry's eyes darted around, wondering what had happened this time.
Why did things always change so suddenly?
"Did she offend you?" Henry asked, curious.
He smirked. "What, are you that interested in my personal affairs? Do you want to sit down and have a long chat about it?"
"No need," Henry replied with a sheepish smile. "Hehe, no need. I'll get it done as soon as possible."
"Let's begin." He took his seat at the head of the table, wasting no time on pleasantries.
The meeting dragged on for two hours before it finally concluded.
By five o'clock, Shane had already left the company.
He drove to Rose Garden.
This was one of his residences, known to very few people.
As he got out of the car and walked over, the guards at the entrance greeted him respectfully, "President Robinson."
Shane gave a slight nod. "Has she caused any trouble?"
"Following Assistant Henry's instructions, we gave her a sedative. She hasn't woken up yet."
He acknowledged with a brief sound.
The guards instinctively opened the door.
Shane stepped inside.
He walked straight to the room where Callie was being held.
Her hands and feet were bound with soft ropes. Even though she had been sedated, they feared she might cause a commotion upon waking.
He approached the bed and gently brushed aside the strands of hair covering her forehead.
She was still wearing her wedding dress, its voluminous skirt nearly covering the entire bed. She lay curled up in the white fabric, her delicate arms showing red marks from the bindings.
"Ugh..."
Callie was in a daze, somewhat conscious, but her eyelids were too heavy to open.
Her mind was foggy, unable to break free from the darkness, and she drifted back into a deep sleep.
Seeing that she hadn't woken up, Shane sighed in relief.
If she were awake, she definitely wouldn't be this quiet.
Thinking of this, his expression gradually darkened.
Even the sight of her wedding dress made him feel an intense irritation.
She had dressed so beautifully to fall into another man's arms. The thought made his face turn ashen.
This woman!
He leaned down, reached out, and tore the wedding dress from her body. Staring at her bare skin, his eyes darkened. He couldn't help but lower his head and kiss her lips gently before pulling the blanket over her.
Taking the wedding dress, he closed the door behind him and handed it to the guard outside. "Get rid of this."
"Yes, sir." The guard immediately took it away.
Shane returned to the room, took a shower, changed his clothes, and then lifted the blanket to lie down beside her.
He turned and held her, pulling her tightly into his embrace, whispering softly in her ear, greedily savoring the feeling of her quietly lying in his arms.
The night grew deeper.
For once, Shane fell asleep quickly.
Early in the morning, he got up and gave strict orders that Callie Norris was not to leave the bedroom.
The guards, following his orders to the letter, ensured she stayed put.
...
In contrast to the calm on this side, things were not going well for Kane.
Callie had disappeared, and Myron and Caitlin came knocking, demanding her return.
Kane's face turned pale.
"I've been searching everywhere for her!" He hadn't eaten, drunk, or rested for an entire day and night, scouring every place he could think of.
He was just as anxious about her disappearance, if not more so!
Who could he possibly turn to for help?
"You took her from the Norris Family. We don't care how, but you must bring her back!" Myron demanded forcefully.
After Rafael's death and Gianna's imprisonment, Myron had matured significantly. Callie's honesty and trust had gradually led him to accept her as his sister.
The initial urge for revenge had lessened considerably.
He realized that if they continued to fight among themselves, the Norris Family would truly be doomed.
And he would have nowhere to call home!
So, he had started to accept Callie and had begun to take her instructions seriously, doing everything she asked of him diligently.
Actually, he wasn't stupid. He had just made mistakes under Gianna's instigation and influence.
Now that he had come to his senses, he was quite smart!
Whether Callie had been kidnapped or had run away herself, now was the best time to get Leif back from Kane!
That's why he teamed up with Caitlin to confront Kane and demand his nephew’s return.
"I don't have her!" Kane snapped, his frustration evident.
Already overwhelmed by the situation, Myron and Caitlin's arrival only added fuel to the fire.
"Leif is with you, right? If you can't return my daughter, then you must at least give us my grandson!" Caitlin demanded.
Kane let out a cold laugh. "No way!"
Without Leif, he couldn't control Callie.
If he handed him over now and they found Callie, she would know her child had returned to the Norris family. Would she still marry him then?
Clearly not!
"Kane, you took my sister and my nephew. If you won't give either of them back, do you think the Norris family is easy to bully?" Myron glared at him.
Although he had matured quite a bit, he still wasn't a match for Kane.
After all, Kane had been navigating the business world for much longer. He knew more, had seen more, and had experienced more.
Calming down, he said, "If you want me to hand over Leif, fine. But you have to find Callie for me. Otherwise, there's no way I'm giving you the child!"
Kane knew that as long as he held onto Leif, the Norris family would be helpless. Plus, he could use them to help find Callie.
"My sister went missing because of you, and now you want us to help you find her? It's a miracle I haven't come after you already!" Myron said angrily.
Kane spoke slowly and deliberately, "Believe it or not, Callie Norris was indeed kidnapped. If you want to get Leif back soon, you must help me find her. Without her, I won't return the child. I do have a lead, though. I suspect Shane might be behind it, but I have no evidence or clues. If you can find any leads or evidence from him, I'll return the child as soon as I find her. What do you think?"
"Kane, do you really think Callie would ever love someone who forces her like this? She's a mother who would sacrifice anything for her child. By taking her child, you're only making her hate you!" Caitlin shouted in anger.
He didn't care.
After all, he had anticipated the consequences from the very beginning.
Achieving his goals by any means necessary—that's what he had learned from Shane!
"I need to continue searching for her, Escort them out" Kane ordered.!
Myron and Caitlin were thrown out!
"Kane, you will pay for kidnapping a child!" Myron shouted!
Kane acted as if he hadn't heard a thing, completely indifferent.
"Enough," Caitlin tugged at Myron. "Yelling at him won't do any good. A heartless person like him, who does such evil deeds, won't be bothered by a few insults. It's just a waste of breath."
Myron knew that he had done it on purpose.
"I just wanted to take the chance to curse him out."
Caitlin looked at him. Callie wasn't by her side; instead, the one helping her was the son of the woman she once hated the most.
Life is truly unpredictable!
You never know what tomorrow will bring!
"Do you think Callie really escaped on her own?" Caitlin asked.
Myron replied, "I believe so..."
He truly thought that in his heart, and he also wanted to comfort Caitlin.
If Callie had really been captured, Caitlin would be extremely worried.
That wouldn't be good for him at all!
With her missing, people in the company were already restless. If he and Caitlin lost their composure as well, the Norris Family would truly be doomed!
Caitlin was still anxious. "Should I go and talk to Shane?"
She was genuinely concerned.
Her daughter was missing. What if she was in danger?
Leif was still in Kane's hands. His goal was to marry Callie, so for now, he wouldn't harm the child to ensure the marriage went smoothly.
"I'll go with you," Myron said.
Caitlin nodded.
They hailed a cab to Skyreach Corporation.
When the cab stopped, Myron paid the fare and got out.
Ever since the car accident, Myron hadn't dared to drive anymore.
He usually took cabs when going out, and luckily, it was convenient to do so nowadays.
Seeing the grand and imposing building, Caitlin took a deep breath. She knew that in front of Shane, she was insignificant. But for the sake of her daughter, she had to find out if Callie had really been kidnapped by him.
As they were about to enter, they saw a woman standing at the entrance, blocking a car that was about to head to the parking garage!
Lydia had been informed by Henry that she was being reassigned to a branch office, and she exploded instantly.
Going to the branch office meant she wouldn't see Shane anymore.
How could they develop feelings for each other if they never interacted?
She had been waiting at the company entrance since early morning, and when she finally saw Shane arrive, she didn't hesitate to block his car.
With tear-filled eyes, she demanded, "Why?"
Shane frowned, not even bothering to get out of the car. He directly contacted security, ordering them to remove her.
But she cried and made a scene, clutching the car's bumper and refusing to let go.
Not far away, Caitlin and Myron watched the scene unfold.
"Is Shane's relationship with women always this messy?" Myron raised an eyebrow. "No wonder my sister divorced him!"
Caitlin glanced at Myron and said, "Let's go."
"Why?"
Myron was puzzled. They had come all this way, and they hadn't even talked to him yet. Why leave now?
Caitlin explained, "Look, he's having relationship issues with that woman. Would he really have the time to chase after Callie? Maybe, as you said, Callie ran away on her way to the wedding."
Caitlin prided herself on understanding men.
Perhaps it was because she had married Rafael, a man who betrayed her, making her believe that all men had wandering hearts. Especially someone like Shane, who had everything he wanted and women flocking to him like fish in a river—countless and endless!
Would he really stop a wedding car for Callie?
If he truly cared, why would he divorce her?
If they were truly in love, why would she hide Leif from him?
It was clear that Shane was also a heartless man, which is why Callie had lost hope and agreed to marry Kane for Leif's sake.
At this thought, Caitlin suddenly realized something, "Callie wouldn't leave Leif behind and run away alone!"
"Maybe she planned to escape first and then find a way to save Leif," Myron suggested.
Caitlin thought for a moment. It did make sense.
"Should we head back then?" Myron asked.
Caitlin nodded. "Let's go back. Even if it is him, do you think he'd tell us if we asked?"
Myron agreed, "I'll follow your lead."
So, they took a cab back.
"You handle the company's matters first. We'll wait a bit longer. If Callie really did run away, she'll definitely contact us," Caitlin said.
Myron nodded.
He glanced at Caitlin.
She showed no intention of meddling in the company's affairs. It seemed she truly trusted him completely.
His guard lowered just a bit more.
...
Meanwhile, Shane had no idea that Caitlin had just witnessed the scene. Lydia had completely lost control, abandoning her usual composure. Being reassigned meant that she and Shane had no future together.
She couldn't accept that outcome!
That's why she was so hysterical!
The more she acted this way, the more Shane felt repulsed.
Comparing the two, Callie seemed much calmer.
But thinking about her calmness, Shane felt a deep sense of helplessness.
Being too calm isn't always good.
That woman wasn't just calm; she was stubborn as a mule.
She had no idea what being gentle meant!
She only knew how to make him angry!
Thinking about her left him feeling helpless.
The current situation was making him agitated. He rolled down the car window and snapped, "You can't even handle this?"
It wasn't that they couldn't handle it; it was that a woman was sprawled across his car hood, making it look like they had some kind of relationship, which made them hesitant to act too harshly.
Hearing Shane's command, they no longer hesitated and forcefully pulled her away. Lydia's hand got scraped in the process!
He stepped on the gas without a moment's pause and drove straight into the underground garage.
Lydia watched the car speed away, tears streaming down her face.
She bit her lips hard and yelled at the people still holding her, "Let go of me!"
Seeing that Shane had already left, the security guards released her.
Lydia's clothes were disheveled, and she looked a mess. She was unwilling to accept this!
She knew the only person who could help her was Old Master Robinson. Wiping away her tears, she drove to the Robinson Family's old mansion.
These past few days, Old Master Robinson hadn't been looking well. Although Butler Imani had confessed to his wrongdoings, claiming he was forced, he still garnered some sympathy.
But it was because of his manipulation that he ended up breaking apart Callie and Shane!
Old Master Robinson's original intention was to find someone to take care of Shane, someone who could give him a sense of home. But now...
Everything was a mess!
He couldn't bear to imagine what Shane would do if he found out that it was because of him and Butler Imani that he and Callie were torn apart, and that their child was taken away. Would he ever show him any remaining respect or familial love?
"Ah, what should I do now?" Old Master Robinson wasn't senile; after all, Butler Imani had been with him for most of his life, always loyal and devoted. He couldn't just dispose of him because of this incident.
"Master," Butler Imani said, bowing respectfully, "perhaps I should go and confess to the Young Master..."
"Forget it. With his temper, do you think you'd survive? Look at your frail body," Old Master Robinson replied. "Things have come to this point; I don't want there to be a next time."
"Rest assured, sir, there won't be a next time," Butler Imani vowed confidently.
"By the way, have you found Callie?" Old Master Robinson inquired, aware of the incident where had had been kidnapped on her wedding day.
Butler Imani shook his head. "This situation is quite weird. There's not a single trace left behind. I can't figure out who did it!"
Old Master Robinson asked, "Do you think it could have been Shane?"
Butler Imani pondered for a moment. "Although the Young Master seems to have a strong liking for her, would he really go so far as to disrupt her wedding and kidnap her just to have her?"
"They've only been married for a little over a year, and Callie disappeared for several months in between. Even if there were feelings, they shouldn't be that deep," Old Master Robinson speculated.
"Exactly. You know the Young Master well. He's such a rational person. It's hard to believe he'd become obsessed with a woman to that extent," Butler Imani analyzed.
Old Master Robinson thought for a moment and felt that Butler Imani's words made some sense.
So far, he had never seen Shane do anything absurd because of a woman!
"Master, you want someone to take care of the Young Master, but it's clear that Callie isn't suitable. She's too opinionated, don't you think?" Butler Imani said.
Old Master Robinson squinted his eyes. "She's a doctor, and most young women these days are quite opinionated, aren't they?"
Butler Imani shook his head. "Don't you think Lydia would be easier to control?"
"I know you want me to give up on Callie and choose Lydia instead, but you saw it yesterday. I invited them to the old house for dinner, and Shane didn't even give me the time of day. It’s clear how difficult it would be to match them together," Old Master Robinson said, feeling that maybe he had made a mistake from the beginning. But thinking it over, he realized that as he grew older, he couldn't rest easy without seeing someone suitable by Shane's side.
If Shane didn't understand emotions, then after he died, he might become even more cold-hearted and ruthless!
"I believe that the woman who stays by the Young Master's side doesn't need to be overly smart. As long as she loves him enough and takes care of his daily life, that should be sufficient. What do you think, Master?"
Old Master Robinson glanced at Butler Imani. "Are you suggesting I continue to match-make Lydia and Shane?"
"You promised Nick you'd look after his granddaughter, and it was your idea from the start. If you give up halfway, how will you explain it to him?" Butler Imani paused before continuing, "Think about it, who else is suitable besides her?"
Cough, cough—
Old Master Robinson coughed twice, and Butler Imani quickly fetched two glasses of water. "Here, have some water to soothe your throat."
He took the glass and sipped, feeling a bit better, though his throat still felt scratchy.
"Should I call Dr. Byrne to take a look at you?" Butler Imani asked.
He waved his hand dismissively. "No need!"
Suddenly, a servant entered the room. "Sir, Miss Lydia is here."
Already feeling irritated, Old Master Robinson frowned. "What does she want?"
"I don't know, sir. She was crying and seemed quite upset," the servant replied.
Butler Imani whispered, "I can send her away if you prefer..."
"Never mind, let her in," he waved his hand.
Nick and he had always been close friends, and now that Nick only had one granddaughter left, he felt it was his duty to take good care of her. He couldn't let his old friend down.
"Grandpa," Lydia cried as she walked in, her face full of sorrow.
"What's wrong?" the old man asked.
Though he felt a bit impatient inside, he tried to hide it.
He was in poor health, and she was sobbing, needing comfort herself.
Just for this reason alone, Old Master Robinson thought she was no match for Callie.
Though a woman's delicate, tear-streaked face could evoke sympathy, being overly fragile could also be quite annoying.
Especially when feeling unwell, having to comfort someone else was simply too much.
Naturally, his patience wore thin.
"Grandpa, wasn't it you who wanted to match me with Shane in the first place?" Lydia sniffled.
Old Master Robinson tried to be patient. "Sit down first."
Butler Imani gave her a hint, "If you have something to say, just say it. I can't understand you through all that sniffling."
Lydia glanced at Butler Imani, then at Old Master Robinson. Although he wasn't angry, he wasn't as kind and gentle as usual either. Realizing Butler Imani's good intentions, she wiped her tears and quieted down.
Once she was sure she could speak calmly, she began, "Grandpa, do you know? Shane wants to transfer me to a branch office. If that happens, I won't be able to see him, and how can we develop our relationship?"
He wasn't surprised.
This was exactly Shane's style!
He thought of Callie, the woman he had also arranged for Shane.
But she had never come crying to him.
No matter what grievances she faced, she always talked to him calmly.
Even when Shane hurt her last time at the old mansion, she didn't shed a tear.
The comparison was obvious.
Old Master Robinson realized how different Lydia and Callie were!
Sure, as long as a woman was pretty and caring, it was enough. Shane was already smart enough; his wife didn't need to be exceptional. But someone who only knew how to cry wouldn't do either.
Now he found himself in a dilemma.
It was his idea in the first place.
Now, if he went back on his word, he'd be letting down his old friend and Lydia too.
What if she held a grudge against him?
He was truly stuck between a rock and a hard place!
Butler Imani, understanding the old man's thoughts, offered a suggestion, "Miss Lydia, Old Master has already paved the way for you. He even gave you a good identity, 'the Young Master's savior.' You should know how to use it. Coming here crying to the him, what can he do? Tie up the Young Master and send him to your bed?"
Lydia's face instantly turned red.
She shyly lowered her head.
He glanced at Butler Imani. Although he felt that his words were somewhat inappropriate, he didn't comment further.
After all, there was some truth to them.
She had to find a way to make Shane fall in love with her on her own.
How much help could he really offer?
Especially now, with Shane being displeased with him.
"What do you want me to do to help you?" Old Master Robinson asked.
Lydia hadn't thought of any good ideas. After all, even drugging Shane last time didn't keep him. What other methods could work?
Rely on personal charm?
Even if she wanted to use her charm, she needed time to spend with him so he could discover her good qualities!
"Can you not let Shane transfer me to the branch office? As long as I stay by his side, he will definitely see my good points." Lydia believed she was attractive.
And indeed, she was quite beautiful.
She thought that as long as she spent enough time with Shane, he would surely fall in love with her!
"I can only help you so much with this," Old Master Robinson said earnestly. "You have advantages; you need to learn how to use them."
Lydia didn't quite understand and thought he was referring to Shane's looks. "But he doesn't know how to treat a lady gently at all..."
Before she could finish, Old Master Robinson was already frowning deeply.
Is this child dense? he thought to himself.
Butler Imani had just given her a hint.
And she still didn't get it.
"Shane is a man of honor. Right now, you have the status of being his lifesaver. You need to know how to use that."
Lydia seemed half-understanding. "But he already kicked me out. How can I use that status when he clearly doesn't care and doesn't remember that I saved his life?"
Old Master Robinson didn't feel like talking anymore. He found it exhausting to converse with her!
"Although I brought it up first, you agreed to my matchmaking because you like Shane, right?" he now just wanted to leave it to fate. Whoever could manage to be with Shane, so be it.
He was old and couldn't handle it anymore!
The more he tried to manage Shane, the further Shane drifted away from him!
"Grandpa, what do you mean? Are you giving up on me?" Lydia sensed something ominous.
"I'm getting old, and there's only so much I can do to help you. Whether you can win Shane's heart depends on you. If you want to spend your life with him and make him fall for you, you need to show him your worth, don't you?" Old Master Robinson sighed. "You come to me every time you face a problem, but what can I do to solve it?"
Lydia bit her lip, feeling extremely aggrieved.
"If you encounter some danger or get hurt on your way to the branch office, wouldn't that give you an excuse to delay? Buy yourself some time and then figure out a plan!" Old Master Robinson had made his point clear; the rest was up to her. "I'm tired now, you should go."
Lydia realized belatedly, "I must have disturbed your rest today. I was just too anxious. Grandpa, you take good care of yourself. Next time, I'll handle such matters on my own."
He waved his hand dismissively, "Go on."
As Lydia walked out of the main hall, she made sure she was out of Old Master Robinson's earshot before speaking again. "Do you think Shane could ever fall for her?"
He doubted it .
Too foolish!
Callie never had such conditions back in the day.
Now, she was in a much better position than she had ever been, yet she had no idea how to use it.
She still needed to ask for help!
He was truly doubtful.
"Master, you worry too much. That's why you're like this. Let me help you to rest," Butler Imani stepped forward to support him.
Old Master Robinson sighed, "I'm old and useless now."
"Don't say that, sir. You still have many years ahead of you."
"Even a long life has its end," Old Master Robinson looked at him. "Arrange a meeting with Kane for me."
"What do you want to see him for?" Butler Imani asked.
Old Master Robinson could disregard Callie, but he couldn't ignore the bloodline of the Robinson Family.
Callie had promised to handle it back then.
He could stay out of it.
But now that she was missing, he had to get the child back from him.
"You've dealt with him before, haven't you? Tell me, what kind of person is he? Is he easy to deal with?" Old Master Robinson asked.
Butler Imani dropped to his knees, trembling with fear. "Master, I know I was wrong..."
"Get up, Imani. I know you were forced to help him. You've had contact with him, so you should know his temperament. Tell me about it."
Butler Imani stood up. "Although he isn't as decisive as Young Master, he does have some principles."
Old Master Robinson pondered. He couldn't meet Kane rashly; he needed leverage to negotiate effectively.
"What do you think his weaknesses are?" he asked.
Butler Imani lowered his head. "I'm not sure," he said, then added, "I wasn't close to him, so I don't know."
Old Master Robinson chuckled softly.
Butler Imani felt a chill run down his spine.
"Master, do you have a plan?"
He looked at Butler Imani. "An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. The way he treats me, I will treat him the same way. Isn't that fair?"
Butler Imani immediately understood. "You mean, capture someone he cares about, and then exchange them for the child?"
Old Master Robinson nodded.
That was exactly his thought.
But there was another purpose!
The child was said to be Shane's by Callie.
However, Shane himself was unaware.
He had a doubt.
Shane was a very smart man, and he knew what was going on.
How could he not know he had a child?
So, he needed to find the child and get a paternity test!
After all, the bloodline of the Robinson Family couldn't be taken lightly!
If the child was indeed his, he couldn't allow them to be left out in the world!
And he certainly couldn't let them be in danger.
"Find out who he cares about the most," Old Master Robinson said.
Butler Imani nodded and then left the room.
After he had left, Old Master Robinson's cloudy eyes flashed with a sharp glint as he watched his retreating figure.
Butler Imani had been with him for many years and was trusted, but after this incident, there was a seed of doubt in his heart.
This was also a test for him!
He could only hope that he was truly coerced and not involved for other reasons.
...
Rose Garden!
As the sedative wore off, Callie woke up.
Her hands and feet were tied, making it impossible to move. The after effects of the sedative left her weak and powerless.
She had no idea who her captors were and could only shout, "Is anyone there? I'm hungry."
But no one responded!
Before leaving, Shane had instructed the guards to call him when she woke up but not to enter the room. If she shouted, they were to let her shout.
The guards at the door heard her and called him.
Shane was in the middle of a meeting.
The conference room, which could accommodate a hundred people, was filled with company executives and branch managers.
Today was the quarterly review, so almost everyone was present.
Seated at the head of the table, he leaned slightly to the side, one arm resting on the table, a Parker pen twirling between his fingers. The pen spun rhythmically, sometimes lightly, and when he heard an unsatisfactory report, the pen's body would tap against the table!
When one branch's quarterly report was clearly unsatisfactory, his expression remained unchanged, but the pen in his hand was abruptly slammed onto the table.
Just as he was about to speak, the phone on the table suddenly rang!
He reached out, picked it up, and pressed the answer button.
"She's awake and keeps saying she's hungry."
Shane replied, "Ignore her."
"Understood."
He hung up and said, "Continue with the report."
He did it on purpose.
Why should she marry Kane?
It was already merciful not to kill her!
Without a lesson, she would never learn.
It seemed that woman never learned her lesson!
Time and again, she challenged his limits.
And he, time and again, had no limits when it came to her!
Thinking of her, he laughed out of sheer frustration.
The previously tense atmosphere was shattered by his low chuckle.
Someone even thought he was in a good mood and asked, "President Robinson, is there something making you happy?"
Shane looked up at the speaker. "Yes, but I can't share it with you. Instead, I hope your quarterly report will keep me in this good mood."
That person must have done an excellent job to dare speak up just now!
Hearing this, they weren't scared but rather confident.
The meeting lasted nearly four hours!
The tea on the table was refilled five or six times.
Everyone was showing signs of fatigue.
After the meeting, Shane was the first to stand up and leave the conference room, followed by everyone else gradually rising from their seats.
He tugged at his tie as he walked towards his office, instructing his secretary behind him, "Go get some snacks, make sure they taste good."
"Yes, sir."
The secretary retreated.
Shane pushed open his office door, yanked off his tie, and tossed it onto the sofa before sinking into it himself.
He stretched his neck and then let his entire body relax into the cushions, adopting a casual and comfortable posture.
He closed his eyes to rest.
...
Rose Garden.
Callie had been shouting for a long time, but no one responded. Her throat was dry, and she had run out of energy.
She couldn't move, feeling like a fish on a chopping board, completely at the mercy of others!
She didn't even know who had captured her!
This feeling was terrible!
In her mind, she wondered, who could have taken her?
Corey?
Or someone else?
She didn't think of Shane.
She thought, she was about to get married.
Shane wouldn't still want to cling to her, would he?
That man, always so proud, wouldn't stoop so low as to cling to a woman who was about to get married, right?
He definitely wouldn't do that, would he?
Right now, she thought the most likely person to have captured her was Corey.
They didn't even have any real grudges.
But he had said last time that Shane had wronged Belinda, and he was going to take revenge on him.
She couldn't help but let out a bitter laugh.
She was already divorced from Shane.
He had already moved on with someone new.
If Corey wanted revenge, he should go after Lydia.
Why capture her?
She rolled her eyes, scanning the room. It felt unfamiliar, and she couldn't remember ever being here before.
The windows were closed, with the curtains only slightly parted, allowing a bit of light to stream in. The room was bright, and she blinked, not wanting to move. She was thirsty, her mouth dry and parched.
She closed her eyes, hoping that sleep might make the thirst go away.
It took a long time, but eventually, she drifted off to sleep.
When she groggily opened her eyes, she smelled the aroma of food. Her gaze immediately landed on the table where delicate pastries were laid out, their rich scent and fancy designs making her mouth water even more, especially since she was hungry.
She opened her mouth, feeling the dryness and stickiness. More than eating, she wanted to drink water.
But her stomach growled with hunger.
When she had first woken up, there had been nothing on the table. Someone must have come in and placed the food there while she was asleep.
Were they trying to tempt her into eating it?
Could it be poisoned?
Otherwise, why would they starve her only to offer her food now?
She turned over with great effort, refusing to look at the food, hoping that would lessen her hunger.
But at this moment, she was truly suffering, truly in agony!
Who could save her?
Shane watched her every move from the surveillance screen in the living room.
Her lips were cracked, and her face looked haggard.
Although Shane felt a pang of sympathy, he hardened his heart and closed the laptop.
He couldn't let himself continue watching.
"So thirsty..." Callie squinted, her vision filled with darkness. It was already night, and her voice was barely a whisper, almost inaudible.
Shane lifted her up and brought a glass of water from the table to her lips. "Water."
As soon as the water touched her lips, she gulped it down eagerly.
After finishing the glass, she felt as if she had come back to life.
Shane held her, gently patting her back. "Sleep now."
He untied the ropes that had bound her, and the relief of being free from restraint made her feel like she was dreaming.
Otherwise, how could she have gotten water to drink?
It must be because she was too thirsty that she had such a dream!
If it was just a dream, she hoped it would last a little longer.
"Leif..." Callie mumbled in her sleep.
Maybe she missed her child too much.
Or perhaps dreams are born from what we long for!
Her voice was so soft that Shane didn't catch it.
"Mommy is sorry..." She hadn't taken good care of her child.
After giving birth to him, she hadn't been able to care for him properly, always putting him in danger and being separated from him.
She felt like an unfit mother.
A tear slid from the corner of her eye, across the bridge of her nose, and silently disappeared into the pillow.
Shane heard that last part.
But he thought Callie was dreaming about the child she had lost, which made her cry in her sleep.
He understood her feelings.
Because he could relate.
She was a mother.
And wasn't he a father too?
He held the woman in his arms tighter, as if only by doing so could he ease the pain in his heart.
How he longed to have another child with her.
That night suddenly felt especially long.
Shane couldn't sleep.
No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn't fall asleep!
In the morning, Callie woke up to see...
