Callie couldn't believe it. Butler Imani had clearly stated that he was the one responsible.
She tried to stay calm. "The child is Shane's. If you don't believe me, you can do a paternity test."
Old Master Robinson frowned, seemingly in disbelief. "What did you say?"
"The child is Shane Robinson's," Callie repeated, enunciating each word clearly.
Old Master Robinson nearly lost his balance. It was only thanks to a quick-thinking servant that he didn't fall over.
"Go, go and get Imani here immediately!" the old man commanded sharply.
"Yes, sir." The servant helped him to a chair and quickly went to find Imani.
Now it was Callie who was puzzled. "You really didn't take my child?"
Old Master Robinson replied, "Why would I lie to you? I want to see Lydia and Shane together, but I know nothing about the child. If I had wanted to take your child, I would have done it at the villa last time. No matter what, your grandfather saved my life; I wouldn't forget that."
"Then why would Butler Imani take the child in your name?" Callie still had doubts.
At that moment, a servant rushed in to find Butler Imani, exclaiming, "Master, something terrible has happened! Butler Imani is missing!"
"What?" Old Master Robinson's composure shattered as he sprang to his feet. "Quick, go find him!"
Callie's face turned ashen in an instant, completely stunned. She staggered back a couple of steps, nearly falling. If even Old Master Robinson didn't know, then was her child in danger?
No, she had to go find him.
Old Master Robinson stopped her. "You don't even know where to start looking. How will you find him?"
Callie couldn't hold back her anger and shouted, "If I don't go look, am I supposed to just sit here and wait?"
Though Old Master Robinson was old, he was still sharp. He couldn't believe Butler Imani would betray him; something must have happened!
"Give me a little time. I'll send people to search," Old Master Robinson said.
Callie couldn't calm down, and she certainly couldn't just sit there quietly.
"I'm going out to search too!"
Old Master Robinson had the servants hold her back and said, "Do you think you'll find him just by going out?"
"I can't just sit here and do nothing!" Callie's eyes were red with tears. Her child was missing, and she couldn't stand idly by!
"I'll have someone bring Butler Imani back and get to the bottom of this," Old Master Robinson tried to reassure her. "Rushing around like a headless chicken won't help. Give me some time to find him, and the truth will come to light!"
Callie knew she was being impulsive, but she couldn't calm down.
After all, her child's life was at stake.
She was trembling, barely able to stand.
"I promise you, we will find them," Old Master Robinson said with conviction. Butler Imani had been by his side for years, and he knew everything about him. That's why he was so confident.
Callie took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing thoughts.
This situation was completely unexpected.
She looked at Old Master Robinson, whose expression didn't seem deceitful.
So who had instructed him?
Old Master Robinson also considered this possibility.
He first thought about the second branch of the family.
After all, they had previously targeted Shane.
Even though he had warned them to behave, there was still a chance they might be up to something behind the scenes!
"Does Shane know about the child?" Old Master Robinson asked tentatively.
Callie Norris replied, "No, he doesn't."
She hadn't had the chance to tell him yet.
"Don't tell him for now," Old Master Robinson said in a low voice. "We don't know the child's condition right now. If Shane finds out, he might act impulsively. You don't want him to do something dangerous, do you?"
Callie bit her lip. "I understand."
She knew a bit about Shane's temper.
If he found out the child was still alive but missing, he would definitely do something rash.
"Master, Butler Imani's family is gone. They must have been moved ahead of time," someone reported.
Old Master Robinson's expression grew serious. He stood up and said, "Accompany me outside."
As he got up, he remembered Callie and told her, "Wait here for me."
Callie didn't say a word.
She couldn't wait any longer. She had to go out and find someone.
No matter what, she couldn't just sit and do nothing!
Old Master Robinson had taken the car to visit his second son.
Callie also stepped out of the house. She stood at the entrance,
her mind racing, thinking about who could have taken her child.
Buzz, buzz—
Her phone suddenly rang.
She answered it.
Caitlin's urgent voice came through, "Callie, you need to come back quickly."
Callie asked, "What's wrong?"
"Someone's looking for you. They have your child."
Hearing that there was news about Leif, she immediately perked up and replied, "I'll be back as soon as I can."
She quickly used her phone to call a cab.
At that moment, a car pulled up, and Henry stepped out.
Seeing Callie, his expression flickered with a hint of guilt.
Callie found it odd that he would show up at this time, so she asked, "Why are you here?"
Henry said, "I need to pick up something."
With that, he walked inside.
Callie didn't press further. She had no time to focus on anything else; her mind was entirely on Leif.
Nothing was more important to her than her child.
Soon, Henry came out, holding a box in his hands.
Callie recognized that box.
Old Master Robinson had mentioned that this item was very important to Shane.
Curious, she asked, "What are you doing with that?"
Henry answered honestly, "President Robinson asked me to take it and give it to Lydia."
Callie was stunned.
"Isn't this thing very important to him?" she asked.
Henry couldn't meet Callie's eyes and said, "No matter how precious it is, it's just an object, Miss Norris. I might not have time to visit your company anymore. If you need help, you'll have to find someone else."
With that, Henry got into the car.
Callie chased after him, "Henry, explain yourself! What do you mean by that?"
"President Robinson gave me the orders. I'm just following them. If you have any questions, ask him directly." With that, Henry started the car.
"Did Shane Robinson put you up to this?" she pressed.
Henry sighed, "President Robinson has been the most patient and fond of you since I've known him. But you keep running away, pushing him towards other women. I think President Robinson might have given up on you..."
"So now he's trying to win over Lydia? Giving her all his most precious things?" Her voice was hoarse.
Henry replied, "I don't know. I'm just following orders. Like I said, if you have any questions, ask President Robinson directly."
With that, he stepped on the gas and drove away.
Callie's face turned pale. Was Shane really going to divorce her?
Had he already started courting another woman, willing to give away his most precious things?
She forced a bitter smile. He always said he liked her, but he never gave her those precious things.
It seemed Lydia was more important?
As she thought about it, cold tears slid down her cheeks.
She wiped them away forcefully.
Men are fickle, especially someone like Shane.
She was probably tired of him.
And she had foolishly wanted to be with him!
Wiping away her tears forcefully, she lifted her head. A man like him wasn't worth her sorrow, and he certainly didn't deserve to be her child's father!
She didn't have time to be heartbroken over such a man. Finding her child quickly was the most important thing she needed to do right now.
She hailed a cab and rushed home. As soon as she walked through the door, she anxiously asked, "Who took Leif?"
Before Caitlin could respond, a man in the living room stood up and said, "It was me."
Callie finally noticed someone in the living room.
"It's you?"
Her eyes widened, and in the next second, she ran over and grabbed Kane by the collar, shouting angrily, "Why did you take my child? Give him back to me right now!"
"I'll give him back, but you have to agree to one thing," Kane said, looking at her calmly.
"What thing?"
"Marry me."
"You're insane!" Callie's eyes were red with fury.
Kane remained unruffled, speaking each word clearly, "Shane made my life miserable. If I do nothing, that would make me a coward!"
Callie sneered, "He messed with you, so go after him! What does taking my child have to do with it? And even more absurd, you want to use this to force me into marrying you? Kane, have you lost your mind or what?"
"I haven't lost my mind, and I'm not confused. From the moment I took your child, I knew exactly what I was doing," Kane said, his emotions growing slightly more intense. "When Shane went to great lengths to buy that painting, I knew he liked you. If the woman he likes is taken by me, how do you think he'll react?"
Callie was stunned for a few seconds, then burst into laughter, tears almost streaming down her face. "You've got it all wrong She doesn't like me. If you go after Lydia, you'll have a much better chance. So, hurry up and give me my child!"
"Callie Norris!" This time, it was Kane's turn to shout at her. "Do you think I'm that easy to fool?"
He had clearly found out that her relationship with Shane was harmonious.
He no longer believed her when she said Shane hated her.
Callie shook her head vigorously. "I'm serious, I'm not lying to you. Go after Lydia. Use Lydia to threaten him. I believe he would do anything to get her back. Capturing me is useless."
"Even if it's useless, it doesn't matter. I kind of like you. Even if it doesn't provoke him, marrying you as my wife would be just fine." He calmed down a bit, his tone softening. "If you still want to see your child, I suggest you be sensible. I'll give you a day to think it over. Come find me tomorrow."
With that, he turned and walked out.
Callie quickly stepped forward and grabbed him, her voice pleading. "I'm begging you, just give me back my child..."
"Marry me."
Before Callie could finish her sentence, Kane interrupted her with a firm tone.
Callie flared up. "I don't even like you. Even if you marry me, I won't be a good wife to you. What's the point? Besides, you know I'm a woman who's already had a child. I'm not worth your affection."
"Whether you're worth it or not isn't for you to decide. Whether you've had a child or not doesn't matter to me. The point is, I want you." With that, he pried her hand away. "I'll be waiting for your good news. Make your decision quickly, so your son doesn't suffer."
"Kane, if you dare hurt my child, I'll fight you to the death!" Callie clutched his shirt so tightly that her nails broke, but she didn't feel the pain. All she wanted was for him to return her child.
"I won't harm him for now, but if you refuse to marry me, I can't guarantee his safety." Kane showed no signs of softening, determined to achieve his goal at any cost.
"Hand Leif over, or I'll end this with you right now. I mean it!" At some point, Caitlin had grabbed a kitchen knife and charged out, pointing it at Kane.
She was ready to risk it all.
Rafael was dead, and now she only had her daughter and grandson to rely on. She had to protect them at all costs!
Callie had never seen her mother so fierce. "Mom..."
"Callie, I know the child is with him. If he doesn't hand Leif over, I'll kill him!" Caitlin's hand gripped the knife handle tightly, veins bulging and trembling slightly.
She was nervous too.
But she had been weak before and had let her daughter down many times. Now, she couldn't afford to be weak. She had to stand in front of her daughter and shield her from harm.
Her eyes were red. "Mom."
She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. "Don't do anything rash."
Killing someone was illegal. If Kane died, Caitlin would go to jail, and Callie didn't want her mother to end up in prison.
At this moment, Kane seized the opportunity to speak, "Ma'am, I won't hurt the child. I love your daughter. If I marry Callie, I'll treat her well, much better than Shane ever did."
Caitlin was clear-headed. "Don't try to fool me. If you really loved Callie, you wouldn't be forcing her, and you certainly wouldn't be using her child as leverage. You're just selfish, trying to get what you want. What kind of love is that?"
Kane was taken aback for a moment, unable to refute her words.
He decided not to explain further. "If you kill me, you'll never see your grandson again. If you kill me, you'll go to prison. That means your daughter will not only lose her child but also her mother. Do you think she can handle that without going insane?"
Caitlin froze. Yes, if both she and Leif were gone, what would happen to Callie?
Callie stepped forward, holding Caitlin's hand to comfort her. "There must be a way. Don't do anything rash."
Tears blurred Caitlin's vision as she looked at her daughter. "I'm sorry, sweetheart. I failed to protect you and Leif."
"It's not your fault," Callie gently took the knife from Caitlin's hand. "I need both you and Leif to be okay."
Turning to Kane, Callie Norris said, "Since you're determined to do this, I agree. But you must promise me that my child will be safe. If not, you won't need my mom; I'll kill you myself!"
"I don't want you to hate me. Don't worry, I'll take good care of him. As long as you marry me, after the wedding, I'll let you see the child," he adjusted his disheveled collar. "I'll have someone pick a date tomorrow. If you have any requests, let me know. I'll do my best to meet them."
"I have no demands. I agreed only because I don't want my child to get hurt, not because I like you. So, I don't care what this marriage looks like." She stared coldly at Kane, her voice icy and firm.
Kane didn't mind; after all, he had threatened her into this.
"That's fine. As long as I have you."
With that, he walked out of the Norris Family estate.
Caitlin grabbed her hand. "You don't even like him. Marrying him won't make you happy. And aren't you still married to Shane Robinson?"
"We're divorced."
Callie had made up her mind.
Butler Imani had most likely switched sides to Kane. Either through bribery or threats, Kane had gotten to him.
Callie reassured Caitlin, "Mom, don't worry. Stay home and don't go anywhere. I have some things to take care of."
"Where are you going?" Caitlin asked, worried.
"Mom, don't worry. I'll take care of myself." Callie stepped out the door.
At the entrance, she encountered someone just about to come in.
She glanced at the person and tried to walk past without a word, but in that moment, her wrist was grabbed!
Her expression turned serious. "What are you doing?" she demanded.
"I know your child has been taken. Do you need my help?" Myron didn't let go of her.
Callie replied, "No, just focus on learning how to manage the company."
"Sis, Leif is my nephew too. Whether you want to admit it or not, I'm his uncle. I'm worried about him just as much as you are, and I want to help." His tone was so sincere that Callie couldn't keep rejecting his goodwill. She patiently said, "The best way you can help me is by learning how to run the company properly."
Myron's gaze softened with a hint of a different emotion. "I'll do my best."
"I have urgent matters to attend to. Please let go," Callie said anxiously.
Myron slowly released his grip.
Callie hurried towards the door but suddenly stopped and turned back to face Myron. "The company wasn't left directly to you by Dad, not because he didn't care about you, but because he knew you weren't ready to take over. He entrusted it to me because he loves you and cares about you. As for your mother, she did a lot of wrong things. I hope you can let go of your hatred towards me and focus on your studies."
"Sis, what are you talking about?" Myron smiled. "I know my mom brought it upon herself..."
"You know exactly what you're thinking, but don't assume everyone else is a fool," she said before quickly walking away.
Myron always acted considerate in front of her, even going so far as to speak harshly to Gianna to get closer to her.
But she wasn't foolish either; she knew Myron was intentionally getting close to her.
Probably to gain control of the company.
She had just told him that the company would be his eventually, and she had no intention of coveting it.
She also didn't want him to hold a grudge over Gianna's imprisonment and stab her in the back.
She was already very tired and didn't want to make another enemy.
She hoped Myron would cherish their family bond and change his mind.
Myron stood there, stunned.
Gianna was his mother, the person who treated him the best. How could he stand by and do nothing while she went to prison?
He had been trying to win Callie's trust to take over the company and then find a way to save Gianna. But her words just now clearly showed she knew his intentions.
He had to take his half-sister seriously.
She was... quite smart.
No wonder their father trusted her so much.
He collected his thoughts and walked into the room, seeing Caitlin sitting on the couch. He went over to comfort her, "Sister will definitely bring Leif back safely. Please don't worry."
Caitlin's attitude towards him wasn't exactly warm, but it wasn't hostile either. Rafael had entrusted all his assets to her and Callie, and sent Gianna to prison, all with the intention that they would take care of Myron.
Considering Myron was Rafael's only son, Caitlin didn't make things difficult for him.
After all, the issues between adults shouldn't involve the children.
Besides, Rafael was dead.
Any grudges or hatred died with him.
"I understand. You should get some rest," Caitlin said.
Myron replied, "Alright. If you need anything, just call me."
Caitlin nodded.
Myron then headed upstairs.
Caitlin remained seated on the couch in the living room.
She couldn't sleep. If she had protected Leif from being captured, her daughter wouldn't be under threat now.
...
Callie arrived at the Robinson Family estate. Old Master Robinson hadn't returned yet, so she waited in the living room for a while.
It was almost dawn when Old Master Robinson finally came back from outside.
Callie took a few steps forward, just about to speak when she saw Butler Imani being escorted back.
Old Master Robinson looked utterly exhausted. Given his age and the fact that he had been up all night, his energy was completely drained.
He reached out, and Callie stepped up to support him.
"I've checked. It wasn't the second son's doing," he said, feeling a sense of relief.
He had been worried that the second son's family might be up to no good. If it had really been them this time, with Shane's temper, he might not have been able to protect them.
"Kane Ortiz, you know him, right?" he asked.
Callie nodded. "Yes, he has a history with Shane."
"Oh. So, is he targeting Shane this time?" Old Master Robinson asked.
Callie replied, "I don't know."
Kane had said as much, but she wasn't entirely sure what his true intentions were.
Old Master Robinson sighed deeply and said helplessly, "Ah, it's my fault too. I didn't notice Butler Imani's odd behavior. If I had, this wouldn't have happened."
Callie asked, "Was Butler Imani bribed?"
Old Master Robinson shook his head. "He's been with me for many years, and I trust him. I've always treated him well, and money can't buy his loyalty. Kane captured his wife and threatened him to whisper in my ear, pushing me to finalize your and Shane's divorce. Then he took your child to force you to marry him. What do you think about all this?"
Callie no longer wanted any ties with the Robinson Family. Divorce was fine by her.
"Anyway, you were never satisfied with me. Shane is interested in Lydia now, so there's no reason for me to stay with the Robinson Family. As for my child, I'll rescue him myself." Her tone was calm, without anger or frustration.
Once she understood, she felt at peace.
"Didn't you say the child is Shane's? Since he's a Robinson, we have no reason to abandon him."
"Shane is alive and well. If you want great-grandchildren, he can give you plenty... As for Leif, he's mine."
Old Master Robinson frowned. "Shane accepted Lydia?"
Callie curled her lips into a slight smile. "He gave Lydia his most precious possession. He must be absolutely smitten with her."
"Precious possession?"
"The item I accidentally knocked over last time, which made him furious. He gave it to Lydia, showing just how much he likes her," she said calmly.
By now, she had composed herself. Even if she felt a twinge of discomfort in her heart, she refused to show it to anyone.
Old Master Robinson glanced at Butler Imani, and it seemed he understood. Shane had seen through his plan to pair him with Lydia, but he hadn't realized that even Lydia's knowledge of the jade pendant was orchestrated by him.
"Callie..."
"I came here just to inform you that I've found Leif's whereabouts. Regarding the matter you asked me to keep secret, I will do so. I also hope you can keep it from Shane. Now that he has a new woman, I don't want to disturb him. So, as for Leif, I hope you can either bury it deep within you or pretend you don't know!"
Old Master Robinson furrowed his brows. "Leif is a child of the Robinson Family. How can I pretend not to know?"
"So, what do you want to do?" Callie retorted.
Old Master Robinson fell silent.
"The child is Shane's. Why didn't you tell me earlier? If you had, I wouldn't have let Lydia get close to Shane."
"I lied to you. Shane and Lydia are doing well together." She suddenly changed her tone and asked, "What will you do about Butler Imani?"
Old Master Robinson looked at Callie, finding it hard to believe she was lying.
After all, she had confidently insisted on a paternity test before.
Now she was denying it. Could it be because she was uncomfortable with Shane and Lydia being together?
And with Butler Imani's meddling, he had been confused enough to swap Callie and Shane's marriage certificate with a divorce certificate.
"Alright, from now on, if you need anything, feel free to come to me for help. As for Butler Imani, he had a chance to run, but he chose to come back and confess everything. I'll deal with him leniently. What do you think?"
Callie knew she couldn't influence Old Master Robinson's decision. Although she was annoyed with Butler Imani, she understood he was coerced and didn't act on his own will. Pursuing the matter further would make her seem petty and wouldn't change the current situation.
"You handle it as you see fit. I'll be heading back now," she said, stepping out of the hall.
Old Master Robinson called after her, "I misunderstood you."
But at this point, it didn't matter to her anymore.
Callie waved her hand dismissively, indicating she didn't mind, and stepped over the threshold, leaving the house.
She initially planned to return to the Norris Family home, but then remembered she had some belongings at the villa. So, she hailed a cab to the villa. As she got out of the car and walked towards the entrance, she noticed a suitcase placed by the door. Mrs. Ford hadn't thrown Callie's things out carelessly; instead, she had neatly packed them into the suitcase.
Seeing Callie return, Mrs. Ford came out. "Ma'am..."
She hesitated, unable to continue.
Callie noticed Mrs. Ford's reluctance and asked, "This suitcase... is it mine?"
Mrs. Ford sighed and nodded.
"Was it Shane who told you to do this?" Callie knew that she was kind to her and would never throw away her belongings.
Mrs. Ford nodded again.
Her lips curled into a cold smile. That man truly was heartless, changing his attitude faster than flipping a page in a book.
One moment he was with her... the next, he was kicking her out of the villa.
She lifted her head. "I understand."
"Madam, what happened between you and Mr. Robinson?"
"Mrs. Ford, did you get the title wrong? What kind of 'madam' am I now?"
Lydia walked over gracefully, her movements elegant and fluid.
She was wearing high heels and carrying a food box. She handed it to Mrs. Ford, saying, "I made this especially for Shane. Please take it inside."
Mrs. Ford hesitated, but Lydia smiled and added, "Mrs. Ford, I will be the mistress of this villa in the future. If you're not friendly now, how will we get along then?"
Reluctantly, Mrs. Ford took the box from Lydia, her face sullen as she turned and walked into the house.
Once Mrs. Ford was out of sight, Lydia's smile gradually faded. She glanced at the suitcase abandoned by the wall and then looked at Callie. "I hope that once you leave, you never show up in front of Shane again. He must really despise you to have Mrs. Ford throw your things out like this."
The words "really despise" struck deep into her heart.
Yes, Shane must truly despise her to have Mrs. Ford throw her belongings out.
Callie lifted her head, her face showing an impeccable smile. "I may not be the last one to be kicked out. I hope Miss Lydia remains evergreen and never faces the same fate."
Lydia's face changed. "Are you cursing me?"
"I'm not cursing you. I'm just telling you that men are fickle. If he can abandon me, why wouldn't he abandon you? What goes around comes around. No one escapes karma," Callie said, letting out a couple of laughs before pulling her suitcase and walking towards the street.
Lydia bit her lip. "You've been abandoned, what do you have to be so proud of?"
Callie couldn't be bothered to respond.
She thought she had found a treasure, but with a man as fickle as Shane, it wouldn't be long before Lydia found herself in the same position.
Callie felt nothing but pity. What pride could she have? As someone who had been abandoned, what was there to be proud of?
She just didn't want to be laughed at and wanted to maintain what little dignity she had left.
"Callie, did you hear what I said?" Lydia's voice was filled with frustration.
Callie turned back to look at her. "What?"
"Don't ever show up in front of Shane again," Lydia said, enunciating each word clearly.
"Fine, I won't," Callie replied with a smile.
Lydia felt uncomfortable seeing her smile.
"How can you still smile after being abandoned? Are you heartless?" Lydia couldn't help but blurt out.
Callie hailed a cab, pretending not to hear anything, and asked the driver to open the trunk before getting in and leaving.
Dragging her luggage, she returned to the Norris Family home. Caitlin came out to help her with the suitcase. "You moved out from Shane's place?"
Callie Norris nodded.
Seeing her exhausted expression, Caitlin felt a pang of sympathy. "Why don't you eat something and get some rest?"
Not wanting to worry her, Callie replied, "Okay."
After eating a little, she dozed off on the couch.
Her sleep was light, and she woke up at the slightest noise.
Rubbing her eyes, she saw Gabriel and Cynthia standing there.
She sat up.
"Callie," Cynthia said as she walked over and sat beside her, looking at her face. "Are you sick? You look terrible."
Callie shook her head. "No, I'm not."
"Are you still upset about your father? You have to accept it; there's no bringing him back," Cynthia comforted her.
Callie smiled but didn't go into details about her current situation.
"Callie, I came by today to tell you that I have a ticket for this afternoon. I have to go back," Cynthia said.
Callie turned her gaze to Gabriel and asked, "Are you two separating again?"
Cynthia gave a bitter smile. "His mother isn't ready to accept me yet. It's going to take a lot of time. I can't just wait here forever; I have to get back to work."
Callie understood.
"Let me take you to the station," she said, starting to get up. But Cynthia held her back. "You don't look well. You should rest at home. Gabriel can take me."
She indeed felt exhausted, her body weary. She smiled. "You're right. With Gabriel around, I'd just be in the way."
Cynthia gave her a gentle pat, feeling a bit embarrassed. "You silly girl."
Callie smiled.
Gabriel told her to rest well, then left with Cynthia.
Callie no longer felt sleepy. She got up, intending to find Kane, but before she could leave, he walked in.
He was smiling, looking quite spirited.
Callie's face remained expressionless as she asked directly, "When can I see my child?"
"I told you, after we get married. You can pick whichever one you like."
He brought over samples of wedding invitations for her to choose from.
Callie thought he was bizarre.
She had already told him that she didn't like him.
Agreeing to marry him was purely for the sake of the child.
Was she crazy?
Why would she even bother picking out invitations?
"Do whatever you want. Don't ask me about anything," Callie said as she sank into the couch.
Kane replied, "Alright then, I'll make all the decisions myself. Once the invitations are printed, the first one will go to Shane."
Callie didn't have the energy to respond and slumped further into the couch.
"Are you feeling unwell?" Kane asked, moving closer to sit beside her. But as soon as he did, Callie sprang up.
Kane raised an eyebrow, "Do you dislike me that much?"
Callie snapped, "What do you think?"
"You need to try to get used to me. Didn't we get along well when we were in Greenfield City?" he shamelessly patted the spot next to him. "Come, sit here."
Callie sat down across from him instead.
"You don't need to go to all this trouble. I can go with you to get the marriage certificate right now."
"That won't do. I must have a grand wedding, so everyone knows you're mine," he said with a smile. "I've ordered the wedding dress from abroad. Do you prefer a traditional Chinese style or a Western one?"
"Whatever you want," Callie replied, unable to tolerate his unpleasant chatter.
She had no interest in these matters at all.
He could handle everything however he liked; all she cared about was the well-being of her child.
"So, I'll take full charge then? But I need your cooperation."
Callie was about to head upstairs when she heard his words, her expression tightening. "Agreeing to marry you is already my limit. What more do you want?"
Seeing her temper flare up, Kane decided not to push further.
"Alright, I won't make things difficult for you."
He had originally wanted Callie to accompany him and show off in front of Shane.
But seeing Callie's impending anger, he had to give up on that idea.
"Just rest well these days. On the wedding day, all you need to do is be my beautiful bride," Kane said as he stood up. "I'll leave for now."
Callie couldn't wait for him to leave, but for the sake of her child, she couldn't afford to offend him. "Take good care of my son."
"Don't worry," Kane said with a smile.
Three days later.
Kane had the printed invitations ready, and the first one he delivered was to Shane.
He went personally, dressed in a neat suit, looking energetic and confident.
"President Robinson, you must be free this Saturday, right?"
Shane didn't even bother to look at him. "Say what you need to say and then leave."
Kane was here to show off, so there was no way he would leave just like that. He held the invitation up to his face. "I'm getting married to Callie Norris. You'll come, won't you?"
