Eve’s Plan

Eve’s Plan
“Eve? Eve, wait, what happened? Why are you angry?”

“Let's just get the fuck out of here, Ella. Everything is fucked up.”

“Oh my God.”

Ella ran after her, trying to keep up with her pace. They had come here with so much confidence.

“I just want to strangle someone right now. Walk fast. I don't want to be in this building for another minute.”

“Ughhhhhh,” Eve yelled as they finally walked out of the building to the parking lot where the driver was already waiting for them. They both got into the back seat of the car.

“Tell me, Ella. What exactly should I do? What should I do to him? He pisses me a lot and I can't bear it. Should I poison him to death and pretend I know nothing about it? Should I sneak into his house and kill him in the middle of the night? Should I burn down this damn building,” she ranted, growling in frustration as the car started moving.

“Wait!” She gasped. “That's a good idea. I'm so smart. I should burn down this building. That would be the best thing to do since he keeps making me mad. I should take down the fucking building. Why aren't you saying anything, Ella?”

Ella let out a sigh. “You keep ranting and ranting without telling me exactly what happened. I can’t contribute if I’m not aware of the situation. Besides, you can't burn his building. For one, it's arson and you’ll get caught and two, it's not proper at all.”

Eve rolled her eyes.

“Who's talking about proper here? I just want to make him pay for how he treated me from when we got married till now.”

“What did he say to you? Come on, tell me.”

“Fine. I went in and I told him I'll get out of his way if he helps me this time. I'd told him I won't bother him again. Though, that was a lie obviously but I sounded convincing to him. I thought he would agree.”

“Then what?”

“You know what the bastard said to me?”

Ella shook her head paying attention to what she was telling her and not daring to move her gaze. Eve didn't like undivided attention in situations like this one. Aside from that, she didn’t want Eve to lunge at her and transfer all her aggression to her.

“He gave me a condition and you know, I honestly thought it was something reasonable but it wasn't. He gave me a file and when I opened it, it read ‘Marriage agreement.’ The bastard wants me to get married to him else he won't help. Do you see why I'm angry now?”

Ella's mouth fell open in shock. It was enough to make her angry too.

“Did he really say that?”

“I'm sure I don't look like I'm lying.”

“Of course not. I'm just surprised.”

“So what should I do? Like, you know… what I just said.”

“You're not in your right state of mind, Eve. How can you think of burning a whole company? Thank goodness you have me as an assistant because I don't know what you would have done. Do you want to spend the rest of your life in jail?”

Eve shook her head.

“Then take a moment and think. This is not just about the Gray’s Corporation, it's about your father’s health. You don't want to get him worried. We both know that his health is not good right now.”

“I get it. By the way, what's today's date?”

“13th?” Ella's eyes widened as she mentioned. She also turned to look at Eve. They both echoed. “It's today.”

“Stop the car.” The car stopped in a screech.

“What the fuck. How had I forgotten that it was today? Goodness! I feel so guilty. Ella?” She called.

“Yes?”

“I'll come down here. You can go without me.”

“What? You can't go alone. I'll go with you.”

“I'd love that but we have a lot of work. Go take care of some while I'm away. I'll be back soon.”

“You should call for security then. You'll be walking in the streets alone. What if something happens to you?”

“Don't worry, I'm taking a cab. Besides, it's not that far from here. I'll see you.”

Before Ella could say another word or try to convince her further, she made her way out of the car and ordered the driver to move ignoring Ella's frown. Her friend was overly protective of her.

Crossing to the other side of the road, she walked into a flower shop.

“Welcome, Miss Gray,” she was welcomed.

“Thank you.”

“What kind of flowers do you want?”

”Roses.”

After purchasing the flowers, she walked out of the flower shop and made her way to flag down a cab. Seems like there's no cab passing the place now.

“Hey, buddy?” She heard a familiar voice call after standing in the sun for a few minutes and waiting for a cab. Her eyes raised to see who it was.

“Liam.” She walked to where he parked.

Liam as always was in his playboy mode with a different expensive car. Eve couldn't help but admire his green Lamborghini. When did he get this one? He always rode in expensive cars.

“Uhhh, I see you got another possession to turn the ladies on. When did you get this one?”

“This cutie pie was bought two weeks ago. What do you think, cute right?”

“Very cute.”

“What are you doing here and holding a flower too? Don't tell me you're going to propose to someone. It will hurt my heart.”

“Of course not. I was waiting for a cab. I'm heading to the cemetery.”

Liam looked at the date on his phone and nodded. “Oh, it's today. Come on in, I'll drop you off. I'm going that way too.”

“You are?”

“Yeah. Hop in, buddy.”

“Don't call me that.”

Eve laughed as she got into the car and he started driving.

“Heading to the club? Don't tell me you're going to pick one of those girls there.”

“You must see me as a man whore.”

“I'm just looking out for you. Besides, I know that's what you do.”

“What? I'm a virgin. I don't do that,” he joked.

Eve gasped.

“Virgin my ass.”

“I don't sleep around. I'm only for one person. She won't like the idea of me sleeping with other women.”

“What? You're in love?”

“Why do you sound so surprised?”

“Because I'm surprised. You, in love? Wow. Who is she? What is she like? Is she pretty? Ohhhhhh, I see you blushing there,” she teased, laughter breaking out from her throat.

“Yes, she's pretty. The prettiest lady I've ever seen. She's average height, black hair, brown eyes, and she doesn't know I love her though. I don't know how she feels about me.”

“Why am I so excited? Do you want me to talk to her for you? Don't tell me you're shy, Liam?”

The Liam that she knew was anything but shy. He was good at flirting and that made her wonder what was stopping him from approaching the girl he loves.

“Forget it. I'll tell her about it myself. I don't think she feels the same way about me though.”

“You never know until you try. Do you want to die single?”

“Hey, stop speaking about just me. You too, do you want to die single? How old are you? We're almost the same age.”

“Meh. Anyway, you can drop me here. Thank you so much.”

“We'll see again. I'm trying my best to do something about your situation. I think the person behind all of these must be really strong in the business world,” Liam said as he stopped the car a few meters from the cemetery.

“I know, right? I'll see you later. Thanks for today.”

With that, she made his way out of the car, and with the flower in her hands, she walked into the cemetery to the place where her grandmother was buried.

Placing her flower bouquet on the grave, she used her hands to sweep the little dust on top of it. It seems like the place hasn't been cleaned for some time. She sat on the grass right in front of the grave and kept staring at it.

“Till this day, I still can't forgive myself for not giving you enough of my time. I miss you, grandmother.” If she were here with her, she would be lying on her lap and smiling as she told her stories. She would be pestering her for handmade food and she would have received a lot of advice.

After she got married to Noah and fully moved out of her grandmother's house, her focus changed. All she could think about was how to get Noah’s attention and she no longer paid attention to her grandmother. She only realized that after she was called three years ago her grandmother was dead. She had died of cancer.

She then realized how she had not been paying attention to the woman to know that she had cancer.

“It's peaceful here. Just like it has always been with you. I wish you had never left. I feel like I have no one by my side. You used to be my mother, father, sister, teacher, you were everything.” The bond that they shared, only she knew. She was broken and it was still fresh in her heart as if it was just yesterday that she passed.

Finally, she could no longer stop her tears from flowing. If she could go back in time, maybe four to five years ago, there were a lot of things that she would have done differently. A lot.

Eve frowned when she felt someone behind her and a flower bouquet dropped on the grave. Her eyes raised.

“Here.”

She met the hand of someone offering her a handkerchief.
