Lance briefly explained what had happened on his end.
Xavier felt conflicted after hearing it, unsure whether to be happy or sad.
Mr. Mercer had entrusted him with analyzing his personal feelings, which could be seen as a professional acknowledgment.
But Xavier wanted to tell the CEO that he was still single and hadn't even had a girlfriend!
Regardless of his inner thoughts, Xavier maintained a professional demeanor and began his analysis. "I think Mrs. Mercer is angry because of Miss Eula. As Miss Eula's attending physician, no doctor can tolerate their patient self-harming. As for you, Mr. Mercer, you were probably blamed because you assigned Mrs. Mercer to treat Miss Eula."
Lance didn't know how to describe his current feelings but understood Deanna's perspective.
If he were in her shoes, he would be angry too.
With this in mind, Lance had already made up his mind and said lightly, "Well done, your bonus will be doubled this month."
After speaking, he hung up the phone and used a spare key to open the bedroom door.
Of course, Deanna noticed his actions.
However, she didn't intend to respond and pretended to sleep while lying in bed.
Soon, she felt the mattress sink beside her and was embraced by a warm body. A gentle, deep voice came from above her head.
"Alright, don't be angry anymore. I've already warned Eula. If she doesn't take care of herself, I'll send her back."
"Did she tell you why she tore her wound?"
Deanna pursed her lips and asked in a muffled voice.
Seeing her concern, Lance recounted the previous conversation and commented, "This woman can be ruthless to achieve her goals, even more so than I can."
Unbeknownst to him, Deanna felt even more uncomfortable hearing this.
She hadn't expected Eula to use such an excuse, and it seemed Lance believed it.
For some reason, she wanted to expose Eula.
"Do you know why she wants to stay here?"
"Probably because she doesn't want to face her family and various forces back home. She plans to wait until I handle everything and then take advantage."
Lance's straightforward answer showed he hadn't considered that Eula might be staying for him.
Deanna didn't know what to say for a moment.
She wanted to expose Eula's intentions directly but doing so would only create more trouble for Lance.
Forget it; she'd find another way to make this woman retreat.
In the following days, perhaps due to Lance's warning, Eula behaved herself and stayed in her room to recuperate.
At the same time, good news came from the hospital.
Lionel had woken up.
Upon receiving the news, Deanna immediately took Shannon to the hospital.
When she arrived, she saw her friend standing outside the door and was surprised. "Julia, why are you outside?"
"The doctors are inside doing check-ups. I felt it was too crowded and came out for some air," Julia replied with a smile.
In reality, she was nervous and didn't know how to face Lionel.
After all, she had rejected Lionel three or four times before but had been taking care of him at the hospital now. It was quite embarrassing.
Deanna didn't notice the change in Julia's expression and gratefully said, "It's thanks to you that Mr. Grant woke up. Now you two can finally be together."
Unexpectedly, Julia's face became even more awkward upon hearing this.
Before she could say anything, the previously closed door opened from the inside, and three or four doctors walked out.
They all looked excitedly at Gunner, who was the last to exit, and expressed their gratitude. "Thank you for your guidance, Mr. Martinez. The treatment plan you provided has greatly benefited our patients. We thank you on their behalf."
"It's nothing. The treatment plan was developed to treat patients. Alright, you all can go back to work," Gunner replied impatiently, dismissing them.
After they left, he saw Julia and his apprentice standing nearby and raised an eyebrow. "Why are you still standing outside? Aren't you going in?"
"Of course," Deanna said as she pulled Julia into the room.
Seeing this, Gunner followed them back inside.
In the room, Lionel lay on the bed with a weak smile as he looked at the three people entering.
Two months of coma had left him emaciated.
"You came," Lionel said to Deanna but looked at Julia.
Although he had been unconscious during that time, he could still hear the sounds around him.
Julia noticed Lionel's gaze but deliberately looked up at the ceiling to avoid eye contact with him.
Deanna pretended not to see their little actions and asked with a smile, "It's good that you're awake. How do you feel?"
"Not bad, just weak and sore muscles. I plan to start rehabilitation therapy tomorrow," Lionel replied with his plans.
