Listening to their conversation, Deanna was on the phone but fully attentive.
How ironic.
The surveillance data had been deleted, and it was impossible for the Mercer Group's engineering department not to notice. This video was likely fabricated by Donald.
Thinking of this, she recalled the message Lance had sent her a few days ago, and her eyes turned cold. Donald must be one of those problematic people.
Deanna calmly hung up the phone. Seeing everyone looking at her, she said in a deep voice, "I have called my company's technical staff. I hope you all can witness this."
"This testimony is necessary, but let's get to the point first. Miss Jones, if this video is real, what will you do?" Donald pressed her step by step.
Deanna met his sharp gaze and was momentarily speechless. She had never considered the possibility that the video might be real. However, seeing how confident this man was, her previously firm belief began to waver. If he wasn't sure the video was real, he wouldn't be so confident in confronting her.
So, is the video real? The thought crossed her mind briefly before she dismissed it. She hadn't done such a thing, so the video must be fake.
"Regarding this question, I think we should wait until the video is authenticated."
"It seems Miss Jones is still not giving up. Fine, I'll wait for the video to be authenticated," Donald said generously, believing he had the upper hand.
Seeing him like this made Deanna even more uneasy. She walked over to Logan and Old Mercer, unsure how to face them. Old Mercer suddenly spoke, "Anna, Logan and I believe you wouldn't do anything to harm the Mercer family!"
Hearing this, Deanna felt much more at ease. "Yes, we believe in you and your relationship with Lance," Logan added.
Deanna looked back at them, feeling deeply moved. The wait wasn't long; within ten minutes, Vortex Technology's technical staff arrived. He greeted Deanna politely and nodded to the others.
Deanna pointed to the video on the conference room's big screen and said in a deep voice, "Your supervisor should have told you why you're here. Check this video thoroughly and tell me if it's real or fake."
The technician looked at the screen. "That's simple. Just give me the original video file."
Deanna nodded and looked at Donald. "Mr. Joyner?"
"Go ahead and give Miss Jones the original video file," Donald instructed his assistant to hand over the USB drive.
Seeing Donald's calm demeanor made Deanna's unease grow. Was he so confident because he knew the video would pass scrutiny?
Despite her doubts, the examination began. Everyone watched the technician with a mix of tension and curiosity. After about half an hour, the technician finished and reported respectfully, "Chairman, I have completed the examination. The video is real, and there are traces of deletion. However, the deletion methods were not sophisticated and were recovered."
Hearing this, which matched what Donald had said earlier, Deanna felt her mind go blank. Real? How could it be real? She didn't remember going to Logan's office at night. What was going on?
The faces of Logan and Old Mercer also turned grim. Logan sternly questioned, "Young man, do you know what you're saying? Can you take responsibility for your words?"
As he spoke, Deanna looked over with reddened eyes. The technician felt frustrated but didn't dare offend them due to their status.
Just as he was about to speak, a smug voice interrupted him. "Miss Jones, even your own people say the video is real. Are you still not going to admit it?" Donald looked at her confidently as if everything was under his control.
Deanna clenched her fists tightly, her face beyond mere anger. The technician saw his chairman's dark expression and felt a pang of anxiety. Had he messed things up?
As he worried, a deep voice rang out. "Donald."
Old Mercer called out sternly. Donald's expression stiffened but did not back down. He met Old Mercer's gaze and said, "Is Old Mr. Mercer going to cover for Miss Jones?"
