Although Xavier was overseeing things abroad, Samantha felt uneasy about the others, unsure if they would truly help find Lance.
Logan glanced at his wife's worried expression and guessed her concerns. He said in a deep voice, "Since those people are following Lance, we should trust them. Don't you have confidence in your son's judgment?"
"How could I not trust my son!" Samantha instinctively retorted.
At that moment, she understood her husband's point. She wanted to say something but ultimately remained silent because she trusted not only Lance but also her husband.
Seeing that the elderly couple had finished their conversation, Deanna asked about the situation back home. "When I returned, Xavier told me that Mercer Group had some issues and asked me to help stabilize the company for Lance. Logan, could you update me on the company's status?"
Logan did not refuse and briefly explained the situation. Before coming, he had received a message from Xavier, hoping he could find some tasks for Deanna at the company to keep her occupied and prevent her from overthinking, which could trigger the toxins in her body.
Unaware of this, Deanna listened to Logan's account with shock in her eyes. The core data of Mercer Group and confidential project documents had been leaked, causing losses beyond numerical estimation.
Logan, noticing Deanna's thoughts, reassured her, "Although it seems severe, we've mostly resolved the issue and stabilized things."
"Resolved? Did we really give them three billion dollars?" Deanna was first surprised, then inquisitive.
Logan sneered, "No way. I'd rather donate three billion dollars to the country than give it to those scoundrels. They thought they could threaten us with our core data. But if we make that data non-core, their leverage is gone. Also, I've reported this to the police as corporate espionage. Once they crack the case, I'll donate the three billion dollars to the country."
Deanna was stunned by Logan's resolve. She never expected him to take such a firm stance.
"Logan, you have real guts!" Deanna admired him. She doubted she could have done the same.
Logan waved it off and continued, "Though the major crisis is over, many internal projects have stalled and need re-planning. Your return is timely; you can help oversee this."
Without hesitation, Deanna agreed. "I'll go to the company tomorrow."
"No rush," Samantha interrupted. "You haven't been back to the estate yet, have you?"
Deanna nodded, understanding her meaning. "I planned to rest here first and return when I'm in better shape to avoid worrying Gregory, Chloe, and Grandma."
"That's wise," Samantha said gently. "But I think you should spend time with your children and grandmother now. They've missed you and Lance terribly."
Samantha's concern for Deanna was evident as she urged her to rest more.
Logan agreed with his wife. "Samantha is right. We don't know what you've been through abroad, but it must have been tough and dangerous. Now that you're back, take a few days to rest before helping at the company."
Deanna had no choice but to agree.
After a few more words, Logan left for the company as there were still many matters needing his attention.
Samantha stayed with Deanna. Though Deanna wanted to refuse, feeling it unnecessary, she couldn't argue with Samantha.
"Don't worry about me," Samantha insisted. "Go rest; otherwise, your grandmother will be even more concerned when you get home tonight."
Samantha urged Deanna to sleep.
Deanna had no choice but to head to her room. Exhausted, she slept deeply without any disturbing dreams.
About five hours later, Deanna woke up naturally. She instinctively checked her phone but found no messages from Xavier, feeling a bit down.
Clearly, there was still no news about Lance.
Despite this, she forced herself to get up and wash before heading downstairs.
Hearing footsteps on the stairs, Samantha turned to see Deanna dressed to go out and knew she planned to visit the estate.
However, Samantha insisted Deanna have dinner first before leaving.
An hour later, Deanna finally returned to the estate. It'd been a month since she last went there. While she was happy to see her children and grandmother again, there was also a sense of heaviness in her heart.
