The wound was treated quickly, and in less than ten minutes, it was bandaged.
Deanna, holding the remaining medicinal powder, thought of the many bodyguards outside who were also injured. She called Xavier over and instructed, "I have some medicinal powder here for treating external wounds. Take it and use it to bandage the others."
"I thank you on behalf of my buddies, missus," Xavier said, gratefully looking at Deanna.
Deanna gave a slight tug at the corner of her mouth and spoke apologetically, "No need to thank me. I should be thanking them. If it weren't for their protection, we probably wouldn't have been able to escape earlier. It was my naivety that led us into this situation. Please, quickly take the medicine to them."
Hearing this, Xavier knew Deanna was blaming herself.
However, he couldn't afford to comfort the missus at the moment and signaled Shannon with his eyes before taking the medicinal powder out to the injured bodyguards.
Receiving Xavier's signal, Shannon looked at the disheartened Deanna and decided to offer some words of comfort, "Missus, you shouldn't blame yourself. It's only natural for you to be concerned and want to personally search for people when the boss is in trouble. We just underestimated those people's ambitions. Fortunately, we didn't lose anyone, and only sustained some injuries. That's already a good outcome. Remember, death was common in our previous missions, and those of us in this line of work have long disregarded life and death."
Deanna knew Shannon was trying to comfort her and shook her head to indicate she was alright.
At that moment, Xavier entered with a serious expression.
"Missus, I'm afraid we need to leave here immediately."
"Why?" Deanna asked, puzzled.
She thought they were relatively safe here as long as they waited until dawn for rescue.
Shannon and Nightingale also looked over.
Seeing their attention, Xavier placed his phone in front of them and said gravely, "I tried contacting Randall to come and support us, but I discovered there's no signal here. Normally, even abandoned buildings would have some coverage unless someone has set up a signal jammer."
With that explanation, Shannon and Nightingale immediately understood his point.
If a signal jammer was placed, it meant someone was lying in wait for them.
"Let's move!"
Almost simultaneously, Shannon and Nightingale stood up, gathering their belongings.
Although Deanna didn't understand their sudden change of plans, she obediently began packing her things.
Before long, the group set off again.
However, they hadn't gone far when they encountered resistance.
"We can't go on; we're surrounded by ambushes. We must retreat back to the abandoned building," Xavier shouted, sensing something was wrong.
Shannon and Nightingale disagreed.
"Going back is a dead end. Don't forget they have artillery!"
"If they blow up the building, we'll all die inside!"
After saying this, they covered Deanna and fired several shots to the left and right. The attackers who had been charging towards them screamed and fell.
Seeing this, Deanna bit her lower lip hard, trying not to be afraid, and closely followed Shannon and Nightingale, trying not to cause any trouble.
Hearing their argument, Xavier also saw the reason in their words.
He looked at the assailants emerging from all around and fiercely wiped his face before instructing the other bodyguards, "Find a weak spot in their firepower and break through."
"Mr. Nelson, this way! There's less fire over here!"
Someone shouted out, and Xavier quickly led Shannon and others in that direction.
Throughout the night, gunfire echoed in the bushes.
The number of people around Deanna dwindled from a dozen to just a few.
Among them was Nightingale, who had disappeared.
They had encountered two waves of attacks earlier. To buy Deanna more time to escape, Nightingale stayed behind with her men.
As dawn began to break, Deanna and her group had lost their way and didn't know where they had run to; they were surrounded by dense forests as if they had entered mountainous terrain.
The only consolation was that they had shaken off their pursuers.
The group found a hidden crevice in the mountains to rest temporarily.
"Missus, are you injured?"
"I'm fine. But you took a bullet for me earlier; take off your shirt so I can treat your wound," Deanna said while pulling out the remaining medical supplies from her handbag and handing some to Xavier to distribute to others.
Just then, a piercing ringtone came from Xavier's clothing.
Excitedly, he took out his phone and saw it was a call from Randall. He immediately answered, "Randall!"
"Thank God you're still alive."
Relieved upon hearing Xavier's voice on the phone, Randall quickly asked, "Where are you guys now? Is Deanna alright?"
"Missus is fine. We're safe for now but I'm not sure exactly where we are," Xavier replied with a wry smile as he looked around before speaking into the phone.
