After a while, Lance walked in carrying a tray.
He looked at the two people still talking and interrupted, "Mr. Martinez, let Deanna eat something first, then you can continue your discussion."
As he spoke, he placed the tray on the bedside table. On it were a bowl of porridge and two small dishes.
Gunner watched as Lance picked up the porridge, preparing to feed Deanna, a look of satisfaction crossing his eyes.
He then stood up and said, "You two go ahead and eat. Lance, have someone show me to my room. After I settle in, I'll have someone check if there are any other reasons for Anna's condition."
"Alright," Lance nodded and called for the butler.
As Gunner and his companions settled in, Eula, who was busy outside, received news of their arrival.
The butler reported cautiously, "Master, apart from the leader, the others seem to be experts. Each of them is armed. Should we investigate?"
"Investigate," Eula pondered for a moment and instructed.
After all, these people came for Deanna. Later, for Lance's sake, she would definitely confront Deanna. To prepare for it, she wanted to know everything about Deanna.
At the same time, Deanna was enjoying Lance's attentive care.
"Have you eaten at this hour?" Deanna asked after taking a sip of the porridge Lance fed her, looking up at him.
Lance looked back at her and smiled, "I'll eat with your master after you finish."
Then he changed the subject and asked, "How did your discussion with your master go?"
"My master said he hasn't encountered my situation before. He suspects that the people behind this are those looking for the special medicine."
Deanna didn't hide anything and shared what she had discussed with her master.
Lance listened, a cold light flashing in his eyes.
Then he seemed to remember something and continued, "By the way, Emily and Raphael were also at last night's business conference. Did you see them?"
"I did, but they didn't bother me, so I ignored them," Deanna nodded.
As soon as she said this, she understood Lance's implication and was surprised, "You suspect them?"
Lance didn't deny it.
"Given their status, they shouldn't have been able to attend the business conference unless someone backed them. And that person is likely the one targeting you for your special medicine data."
Deanna fell silent, finding Lance's analysis reasonable.
However, she still had doubts. "If those people were behind this and I fell into their trap, why didn't they take me away directly?"
This question stumped Lance as well.
It was indeed a puzzling point.
Later, Lance shared this question with Gunner.
In his view, Gunner had faced these people multiple times and could at least provide some insights.
And indeed, Gunner did.
After listening to Lance's account, Gunner tapped his fingers on the table and said in a deep voice, "Since they didn't act immediately, they must have done something to Deanna. This thing must be valuable enough for them to temporarily set aside their desire for the special medicine."
Hearing this, Lance became worried.
"If that's the case, then it must be what they injected into Deanna. Are they planning to use her life as leverage?"
"Maybe yes, maybe no," Gunner nodded and then shook his head.
Seeing this, Lance frowned deeply.
He understood what Gunner meant.
In essence, the question circled back to why those people didn't take Deanna away after controlling her.
Neither Lance nor Gunner could figure this out.
In the end, they decided to stop pondering over it and focus on the current situation.
"Since they injected you with something, they must have a purpose. Let's do this: stay here for a week. I think that's about their limit. During this time, Lance should stay by Deanna's side and monitor her condition closely. Deanna should also pay attention to her own body."
Gunner methodically laid out his plan.
Deanna and Lance agreed with this approach.
Since they couldn't understand the enemy's intentions, they might as well wait for them to make a move.
They would deal with whatever came their way.
After finalizing their plan, it was getting late. Gunner left the couple and went to his room to rest.
Only Deanna and Lance remained in the room.
Thinking about staying here for a week made Deanna reluctant to continue staying there.
After all, this was someone else's territory. Borrowing it for a day or two was fine, but staying for a week felt unnatural to her.
Moreover, the house's owner was someone who coveted her fiance.
