In the dimly lit carriage, Emily covered her slapped face, her eyes filled with palpable resentment.
She suddenly lifted her head, meeting Raphael's terrifying gaze and the deep-seated worry in his eyes. She knew exactly what this man was concerned about.
It was nothing more than the fear of implicating the Howard family.
Thinking of this, Emily's face showed a triumphant smile. "Ha, I deliberately didn't discuss it with you, Raphael. You schemed against me first; I'm just giving you a taste of your own medicine!"
Hearing this, Raphael's face darkened even more.
"Indeed, you're venomous. I should have listened to my parents and divorced you early on!"
"Divorce? Fine, let's divorce now. Even if we divorce, it won't change the fact that I've already dragged the Howard family into this mess!"
Emily spoke fearlessly.
Raphael, infuriated, felt a pain in his chest and raised his hand to slap her again.
Emily saw this and, though fear flashed in her eyes, she did not back down. She leaned her face forward, sneering, "What, you want to hit me again? Go ahead, hit me. These marks will be perfect for a medical examination. This counts as domestic violence, doesn't it?"
Facing Emily's defiant stance, Raphael ultimately did not strike her.
After all, if it turned into a case of domestic violence, the nature of their divorce would change.
Moreover, he was acutely aware that whether they divorced or not, as Emily said, the Howard family was already implicated.
Now, all he could do was walk this path to the end and become completely opposed to the Mercer family.
"I want to meet the person behind you!"
Raphael withdrew his hand and spoke coldly to Emily.
Emily was momentarily stunned, seemingly not expecting Raphael to say this.
When she realized what he meant, she looked at Raphael warily, unsure of his intentions. "Why should I let you meet him?"
"This has nothing to do with you. If I don't see your backer by tomorrow, I won't hesitate to go to Lance and reveal everything you've done. While the Howard family might be implicated, I believe Lance will go easy on them if I come clean. But you, who knows."
Raphael looked at her meaningfully.
The threat in his words was unmistakable.
Emily's previously smug expression instantly froze.
...
On the other side, under Lance's constant urging, they finally arrived at Eula's house in less than ten minutes.
It was a beautifully crafted English-style manor that looked even more picturesque under the night lights.
Unfortunately, Lance had no mind to appreciate such scenery.
Holding the unconscious Deanna, he strode towards the living room.
Eula followed closely behind, her eyes constantly observing Lance's expression, her heart sinking further.
She had never seen Lance so anxious and worried before.
Even when Lance had been in life-threatening situations before, his face had always remained indifferent.
This showed how important this woman named Deanna was to Lance.
And she realized that replacing this woman would require considerable effort!
Eula thought to herself but was not in a hurry.
As an excellent hunter, she knew that patience was crucial during the hunt!
And patience was something she had in abundance.
Lance was unaware of Eula's thoughts.
After entering the living room, he saw Eula's medical team waiting there. He immediately carried Deanna over and urgently said, "All of you come and check on her."
As he spoke, he placed Deanna on the sofa.
The medical team members quickly stepped forward to examine her.
After a few minutes, the team leader walked up to Lance and reported, "King, this lady has been drugged with a sedative causing her unconsciousness. Additionally, we found a needle mark on her arm that appears to have been recently injected."
Hearing this, Lance felt an inexplicable unease.
He looked at them solemnly and asked, "Can you identify what was injected?"
"We need to do a blood test to determine that. The results will take at least five hours."
The team leader replied honestly.
Without hesitation, Lance nodded. "Then do the blood test. Inform me as soon as you have the results!"
"Yes!"
The team leader took the order and turned to instruct his assistant to draw blood.
Lance stood by watching, his face full of worry.
Seeing this, Eula walked over and tried to comfort him. "Don't worry too much. Angelo and his team are the best in the world; they won't let Miss Jones come to any harm."
Angelo was the name of the medical team leader who had just reported.
Hearing her voice, Lance nodded but did not take his eyes off Deanna.
Then he seemed to think of something and said to Eula, "Have someone prepare a guest room for me. If Deanna doesn't wake up soon, I'll be staying here for a while."
"No need to prepare a guest room. You forgot? I always have a room ready for you here."
Eula's eyes showed a hint of a smile upon hearing that Lance might stay.
