The bright office was filled with a tense and oppressive atmosphere.
The middle-aged man knew why Lance had come.
Their company's system was different from other security companies. Orders were not issued by the company but posted as bounties on the company's forum by clients. Once someone accepted and completed an order, they would bring the order information to the company to receive their reward.
Because of this system, the middle-aged man later realized they had provoked Lance, and it was too late to regret it.
After a moment, the middle-aged man withdrew his gaze from Lance and smiled bitterly. "Would you believe me if I say this is a misunderstanding?"
"You men harmed my fiancee, and you think a misunderstanding will make it right?" Lance looked at him mockingly.
The murderous intent in Lance's eyes made the middle-aged man realize this wouldn't end well.
The middle-aged man frowned and thought for a moment before asking, "Then what do you suggest?"
"I'm not making it difficult for you. Hand over the person who took the order and your payment receipts," Lance demanded.
The middle-aged man immediately refused, "No way. I can't give you the person, but I can provide the payment proof to Mr. Mercer."
If he handed over his people because of this, who would work for him in the future?
Lance wasn't surprised by his choice. He turned his head and gave Xavier a signal.
Xavier understood and took out a stack of documents from his briefcase, placing them in front of the middle-aged man.
The middle-aged man hesitated before picking up the documents. The next second, he trembled slightly, his pupils contracting.
At this moment, Lance spoke again, "Now you can choose: do you want the people or the company?"
The middle-aged man looked up sharply at Lance, a flash of murderous intent in his eyes.
Even so, Lance noticed it.
He raised an eyebrow and sneered, "You want to kill me to silence me?"
"How could that be? Mr. Mercer, you're overthinking," the middle-aged man quickly denied.
Although he had indeed thought about killing Lance to silence him, he knew he couldn't do it.
Lance just sneered sarcastically and didn't say anything more. He simply asked again, "So what's your choice?"
The middle-aged man remained silent.
As they were at an impasse, there was a commotion outside the door.
But it quickly subsided.
A black-clad bodyguard who seemed to be a leader walked over respectfully. "Boss, we've subdued all the security company's thugs."
Lance nodded slightly, his gaze still fixed on the middle-aged man. "Or, you can choose not to decide. I'll have someone send these documents up. When your company is under control, I'll still get what I want; it will just take more time."
Almost as soon as these words fell, the middle-aged man's pupils contracted even more.
He took a deep breath to calm himself down and then looked at Lance as if he had made a decision.
"If I hand over those people and the evidence you want, will you let the company go?"
"That depends on your sincerity," Lance replied ambiguously, but the middle-aged man misunderstood.
He thought Lance agreed not to send those documents up. He pressed the intercom and called his assistant. "Bring Mack Juarez's group over."
"Mr. Galloway, Mack Juarez and others have been subdued by Mr. Mercer's people," the assistant reported truthfully.
The middle-aged man hung up and said to Lance, "The people you want have already been captured by your men. I'll take you out to identify those involved in this matter."
He stood up and walked out of the office.
Outside, the place was already in disarray.
Many fierce-looking individuals were being restrained by black-clad bodyguards.
Seeing the middle-aged man come out, they immediately cried for help. "Mr. Galloway, save us!"
Mr. Galloway, the middle-aged man, ignored their pleas.
He scanned around and found Mack Juarez's group in a corner. "These are the people you want. Can you release the others?"
Lance didn't answer immediately but turned to Xavier. "Go verify."
Xavier nodded and compared the images they had previously investigated.
A few minutes later, he returned to Lance's side respectfully. "It's indeed them."
"Good. Take them away; release the others," Lance ordered coldly, his gaze never leaving Mack Juarez and his group.
Mack Juarez and his group noticed his dangerous look and felt uneasy.
"Mr. Galloway, aren't you going to help us?"
"Mr. Mercer, we know we were wrong. When we took the order, we didn't know that woman was your fiancée."
"We didn't do much to her, just scared her a few times."
Someone started begging for mercy first, followed by others trying to exonerate themselves.
