After Lance had a fit of anger, he didn't forget about the unconscious Deanna and hurried to the lounge.
When Shannon saw him push the door open, she immediately stood up respectfully and greeted, "Mr. Mercer."
"How is Deanna?" Lance asked Shannon as he walked quickly to the bed where Deanna lay, his concern evident.
"Missus is fine, just overly frightened and fainted," Shannon reported truthfully. Besides her skills as a bodyguard, she knew a bit of first aid.
Lance sighed in relief. He then gently picked Deanna up and turned to leave. It was already evening, and he couldn't let Deanna sleep there.
Seeing this, Shannon sensibly stepped forward to help with opening doors and pressing elevator buttons.
About half an hour later, Lance returned to the manor with the unconscious Deanna in his arms. At that moment, Old Ashley and the two little ones were in the living room, playing while waiting for Deanna to come back for dinner.
When they saw Lance carrying Deanna in, they all rushed over with concern.
"Daddy, what happened to Mommy?"
"Is Deanna sick?"
Hearing their worried voices, Lance gave a brief explanation, "She was overly frightened and fainted. I'll take her upstairs first." Without waiting for a response, he carried Deanna upstairs.
Old Ashley and the two little ones followed closely behind, worried. After Lance settled Deanna on the bed and covered her with a blanket, Old Ashley couldn't help but ask again, "What exactly happened? Why was she so frightened?"
Seeing the worry on Old Ashley's face, Lance decided not to hide anything. "In the past few days, someone has been targeting Deanna. They scratched her car, sent her a terrifying package, and did something bad to her car today."
He gave a rough account of what had happened without going into detail, considering the presence of the children.
Even so, Old Ashley could tell that it wasn't as simple as Lance made it sound. The two little ones were also furious after hearing this.
"That's terrible! Daddy, did you catch the bad guy?"
"These bad people must be caught!"
They looked at Lance with shared indignation.
Lance patted their little heads and said seriously, "Don't worry. No one can bully your mommy under your daddy's watch!"
The two little ones nodded trustingly. "Daddy, you must not let these bad people go!"
Listening to their conversation, Old Ashley didn't know what to say. After some thought, she had someone take the two little ones downstairs for dinner to get them out of the room.
Soon, only Old Ashley and Lance were left in the room.
Seeing this, Lance asked proactively, "Grandma, do you have something to say to me?"
"What exactly frightened Deanna?" Old Ashley voiced her doubts. She added, "Don't brush me off with what you said earlier."
"I wasn't brushing you off earlier; it was just inappropriate to say more with Gregory and Chloe around," Lance explained and then detailed the events of the past few days.
Hearing that someone had used a dead cat to scare her granddaughter, Old Ashley's face turned grim. "Does this person have no regard for the law?"
She asked angrily and then inquired further, "Have you found out who did it?"
Lance shook his head. "Not yet. The person is very cunning and has laid many false trails. It will take some time to uncover who is behind this."
Old Ashley frowned deeply, lost in thought. After a moment, she asked, "Do you think it could be the Jones family?"
"It shouldn't be Garrett," Lance shook his head in denial.
Old Ashley looked at him doubtfully. "Are you sure?"
She didn't know about Lance causing trouble for Jones Group and thought Garrett might be warning Deanna since she had taken Vortex Technology from him.
Seeing her expression, Lance could guess what she was thinking. "Garrett did pester Deanna before. I warned him off, and his company has been having issues these past few days."
Although he didn't finish his sentence, Old Ashley understood. With Lance around, Garrett wouldn't dare cause trouble even if he resented Deanna.
But this only made Old Ashley more puzzled. "If it's not Garrett, then who could it be?"
"We'll find out eventually," Lance said as he glanced at the unconscious Deanna on the bed.
He then remembered that Old Ashley hadn't eaten yet and suggested she go downstairs for dinner.
Old Ashley didn't object but noticed that Lance didn't plan to join her. She offered, "You stay here with Deanna. I'll have someone bring your dinner up."
"Thank you, Grandma," Lance nodded in gratitude.
Soon after, Old Ashley left the room.
Lance didn't idle either; he took out his phone and called Xavier to bring the remaining work to the manor.
