Lance looked at Deanna in his arms with a pained expression, comforting her once again, "Luna is really gone. If you don't believe me, take a look."
Hearing this, Deanna instinctively wanted to check, but stopped halfway.
"Forget it, I don't want to look."
Deanna was afraid that if she looked, she would remember the cat that had died tragically.
Seeing this, Lance held her tightly and asked with concern, "What exactly happened?"
"At noon, my assistant brought me a package. Inside was a dead cat that looked a lot like Luna."
Deanna slowly recounted what had happened during the day.
Lance's face turned extremely grim after hearing this.
At that moment, there was a knock on the door, followed by Old Ashley's concerned voice, "Lance, is Deanna alright?"
"Daddy, Mommy, can we come in?"
The voices of the two little ones sounded from outside the door.
Seeing this, Deanna quickly said to Lance, "I didn't tell Grandma and the kids about this. I don't want them to worry. Just say I had a nightmare."
"Alright, I can keep it from them for now, but you need to tell me everything again later."
Lance nodded in agreement while making his request.
Deanna naturally wouldn't refuse.
After agreeing, they let Old Ashley bring the two little ones into the room.
As soon as they came in, the two little ones gathered around Deanna, looking at her with wide eyes. "Mommy, what's wrong?"
"I'm fine, just had a nightmare."
Deanna told a white lie to ease their worries.
Seeing Deanna's pale face, they didn't stay long and soon left.
For a moment, the room was left with just Deanna and Lance again.
Lance was about to ask about what happened during the day when he suddenly heard a rumbling sound from Deanna's stomach.
Deanna didn't expect this and felt embarrassed.
"I'll get you dinner," Lance said as he got up and left.
Soon, he returned with a sumptuous dinner for Deanna.
But after a few bites, Deanna couldn't eat anymore.
Lance understood it was because of what happened during the day and didn't force her. He placed the tray outside the door for the servants to collect later.
Seeing Lance return to the room, Deanna spoke up before he could ask, "I've already asked Shannon and Leighton to investigate this matter. But I haven't received any updates yet, so they probably haven't found anything."
"Why didn't you tell me about this from the start?"
Lance frowned.
Deanna replied sheepishly, "I wanted to tell you in person but didn't expect to sleep until just now."
Hearing this, Lance sighed helplessly. "You!"
He affectionately tapped Deanna's forehead and then said, "This is probably related to the person who scratched your car before. Leave it to me."
Deanna nodded in agreement.
She knew that only by leaving it to Lance could they quickly find out who was behind it.
After talking for a while longer, Deanna felt tired but didn't dare close her eyes to rest.
Seeing her struggling to stay awake, Lance comforted her, "Sleep. I'll stay with you."
Hearing this, Deanna felt warmth in her heart and nodded gently.
Perhaps knowing that Lance was by her side, she slept exceptionally well this time.
Watching Deanna sleep soundly, Lance didn't leave immediately but stayed for a while longer.
Fortunately, he didn't leave because halfway through her sleep, Deanna started showing signs of distress again.
"Don't come near..."
Deanna waved her hands, her voice trembling with fear.
Lance felt both heartache and anger as he watched her.
Of course, his anger was directed at the person behind all this.
But for now, he could only suppress his anger and comfort Deanna.
"Don't be afraid. I'm here with you."
Lance whispered in Deanna's ear and held her tightly to form a protective circle around her.
In her sleep, Deanna vaguely heard Lance's voice and gradually calmed down.
Seeing this, Lance breathed a sigh of relief.
He waited until Deanna had slept for a while longer before getting up and leaving the room.
He didn't go far after leaving; worried that Deanna might have another nightmare, he stood in the hallway to make a phone call.
The call was quickly answered by Xavier's respectful voice.
"Mr. Mercer."
"How's the investigation on the car incident going?" Lance asked coldly.
Xavier replied truthfully, "We're still investigating. These people are very cautious. Even though we released a smoke screen, they split up and entered different malls after a while."
This news made Lance's eyes turn icy cold.
"I don't care what methods you use. You must catch these people for me."
"Yes!" Xavier nodded in agreement.
Then Lance mentioned the dead cat incident. "Go find Shannon and the others later. Deanna received a threatening package at the company today. Assist them in investigating this matter thoroughly."
