Lance was incredibly efficient.
Early the next morning, Xavier arrived at the estate with the bodyguards he had requested.
Lance, with his arm around Deanna, introduced them, "They will be by your side from now on. Please introduce yourselves."
He directed his last words to the two female bodyguards standing before them.
The bodyguards nodded and gave brief introductions.
"I am Shannon Burke, skilled in combat and shooting."
"My name is Leighton Burke, specialized in counter-surveillance, close combat, and hacking."
After hearing their introductions, Deanna looked at them curiously and asked, "You both have the last name Burke. Are you sisters?"
Shannon nodded respectfully, "I am the elder sister, and she is the younger one."
"I see. Well, I look forward to working with you both."
Deanna smiled warmly at them.
Shannon, being more sociable, continued the conversation with Deanna while Leighton stood coolly by her side.
Deanna didn't mind and after some small talk, she got into the car with Lance.
They had to drop the kids off at school.
The children were very curious about the new bodyguards, especially Chloe, who couldn't stop thinking about Leighton.
"Mommy, can I play with Aunt Leighton after school?"
She looked up at Deanna with hopeful eyes.
Deanna and Lance exchanged surprised glances. "You like Leighton?"
"Yes, she's so cool, like a heroine from TV."
Chloe nodded vigorously.
Deanna and Lance chuckled in surprise. They hadn't expected their daughter to have such a fascination with heroines.
Deanna didn't refuse her daughter's request and said with a smile, "I'll ask Leighton later. If she's willing to play with you, then you can go find her, okay?"
"I know! And I'm so cute; Aunt Leighton will definitely want to play with me."
Chloe lifted her little head confidently.
Her proud demeanor made Deanna, Lance, and even Gregory laugh.
With that, the family of three arrived at the kindergarten amidst laughter.
Before getting out of the car, Chloe reminded Deanna again about her promise. "Mommy, don't forget what you promised me."
"Don't worry, I won't forget."
Deanna responded with a smile.
After dropping the kids off at school, Deanna and Lance set off again.
Soon, they arrived at Vortex Technology.
Lance held Deanna's hand and reminded her, "I might not have time to join you for lunch today, but I'll free up my evening to pick you up."
"It's okay. If you're busy, don't worry about me."
Deanna didn't want Lance to tire himself out running between two companies because of her.
Lance appreciated Deanna's concern and smiled. "Don't worry, this much work won't tire me out."
In the end, Deanna had to agree.
After getting out of the car, she saw Shannon and Leighton already standing at the company entrance. She waved to Lance and ran over.
"Sorry to keep you waiting."
She smiled apologetically at them.
Shannon smiled back. "It doesn't matter. Shall we go in now?"
"Yes. I'll have the HR department prepare access cards for you later so it will be easier for you to move around the company."
Deanna said as she led them inside.
While waiting for the elevator, she glanced at Leighton, who hadn't spoken a word. Remembering Chloe's request, she decided to strike up a conversation. "Is Leighton usually this quiet?"
"She's always been like this since she was a child. But she's very capable, even more so than me."
Shannon's tone was filled with pride.
Deanna blinked, unsure how to respond.
Leighton seemed to guess what was on Deanna's mind and finally spoke for the first time that day. "Is there something you need from me, missus?"
"Uh..."
Meeting Leighton's perceptive gaze, Deanna realized her thoughts had been seen through. She decided to be straightforward. "It's like this: Chloe really likes you and wants me to ask if she can play with you this evening. Of course, if you're busy, it's fine."
Leighton frowned slightly and declined politely. "I have training tonight and may not have time to play with Miss Chloe."
"If you're busy, that's okay. I was just asking."
Deanna shook her head nonchalantly.
Leighton nodded and added another rare sentence. "The elevator is here."
A few minutes later, the three of them entered the office.
Deanna began her busy day while the sisters didn't idle either. One worked on a computer as if checking something while the other stood by the window, occasionally observing outside as if looking for suspicious people.
Around noon, Deanna finally finished her tasks.
"It's lunchtime. I'll have my assistant buy food. Do you have any dietary restrictions or preferences?"
She looked at the sisters inquiringly.
Leighton remained silent while Shannon spoke for both of them. "We can eat anything you buy for us."
