Hearing Lance's worried voice, Deanna snapped back to reality and quickly said, "I'm fine, just a bit scared."
The reason she said she was scared was because she saw her car had been vandalized.
In front of her, a white sedan had the word "bitch" spray-painted on it, with many scratches all over, and even the front bumper had been torn off.
Lance, after hearing Deanna's explanation, was even more concerned.
"Where are you now? Are you safe? I'll come to you immediately."
"I'm in the company garage. There's no one around; it should be safe," Deanna said, glancing around and speaking into the phone.
Despite this, Lance was still worried. "Go back to your office first. I'll be there soon."
Deanna agreed and turned to head back to her office.
In less than twenty minutes, Lance arrived with Xavier.
Upon seeing Deanna, he looked her over to ensure she was indeed unharmed before heaving a sigh of relief. "Did you have someone check the surveillance footage? Did you find out who vandalized your car?"
"The security downstairs checked. They found a few people, but they were all wearing masks, so their faces couldn't be seen," Deanna explained what she had found out while waiting.
Lance didn't think this was a big issue. "It's fine if we can't see their faces. As long as we can track them down."
He then turned to Xavier and instructed, "Go to the security office and get a copy of the surveillance footage. Find those people."
"Yes!" Xavier nodded and left.
Soon, only Deanna and Lance were left in the office.
Holding Deanna's hand gently, Lance said, "Let's go home and wait for news."
Deanna nodded and followed him out.
Before long, they returned to the estate.
As soon as Deanna entered the living room, she was greeted with concern from her two children and grandmother.
"Mommy, are you okay?"
"I saw Lance rush out earlier. What happened?"
Hearing their worried words warmed Deanna's heart. Not wanting them to worry, she didn't tell the truth. "It's nothing serious, just that my car broke down."
"Is that so?" Old Ashley frowned, somewhat skeptical.
She turned her gaze to Lance.
Lance understood Deanna's intention and helped cover up. "Yes, the car broke down. Deanna didn't know how to handle it and got a bit flustered. I was worried about her, so I rushed over."
"I see. As long as everything is fine," Old Ashley believed Lance's words.
Deanna watched from the side, feeling both amused and helpless.
Seeing the two children yawning beside her, she changed the subject with a smile. "It's getting late. Grandma, you should rest early. I'll take Gregory and Chloe to their room."
"Go ahead," Old Ashley waved her hand, signaling Deanna to leave.
Deanna nodded and took the children to their room to rest.
Seeing this, Lance nodded at the old lady and followed them upstairs.
Halfway there, his phone rang. It was Xavier calling.
"Mr. Mercer, those people are very cunning. I can't identify them right away," Xavier's frustrated voice came through the phone.
Lance frowned.
If Xavier found it difficult to track them down, it meant the perpetrators were well-prepared.
Thinking about it, he asked, "What did they do?"
"They didn't use any sophisticated methods but were still very tricky," Xavier reported honestly.
After vandalizing Deanna's car, they left the garage in a van. However, the van had no license plates. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem for Xavier, but the difficulty lay in the fact that after driving a short distance, five or six identical unmarked vans appeared out of nowhere.
Because of this, tracking them would take Xavier a lot of time.
After hearing Xavier's explanation, Lance's frown deepened. His face darkened as he said, "Even so, I want you to track them down one by one. I don't want any potential threats around. Do you understand?"
"Understood!" Xavier acknowledged and then hung up.
Later that night, after putting the children to bed, Deanna came out of the room and saw Lance standing alone in the hallway with a troubled expression. She approached him and asked, "What's wrong?"
Seeing her, Lance didn't hide anything and told her what Xavier had found out.
"Xavier just reported back. After vandalizing your car, they left in a van and released several decoys to throw us off."
His expression turned serious. "This was clearly a targeted attack against you. I'm worried they might strike again. So starting tomorrow, I want to assign a few bodyguards to stay with you every day."
Hearing this, Deanna felt it was a bit excessive but agreed in order not to worry Lance and her grandmother further.
