Lance was not impressed by Garrett's attempts to curry favor. He looked coldly at the man in front of him and got straight to the point. "Since Mr. Jones has no objections to my proposal, I'll give you a day to prepare. Tomorrow at this time, I'll come by for you to sign the contract."
"Alright, no problem," Garrett agreed readily. However, he realized that their verbal agreement was still quite rough and left much room for interpretation. To ensure that the Jones family could rely on the Mercer family in the future, he decided to clarify a few things. "Mr. Mercer, I've been thinking. We only discussed the cooperation briefly just now, and many details were left out. How about we have lunch together later and go over these details thoroughly?"
"No need for lunch. Whatever details you want to discuss, tell me now," Lance replied, not interested in having a meal with Garrett.
Garrett noticed Lance's reluctance and decided not to push it. He quickly brought up a few important details he had thought of earlier. "Mr. Mercer, the project you mentioned earlier, is it managed by the Mercer Group?"
"Of course," Lance responded, though his eyes flickered slightly. The project was indeed managed by the Mercer Group, but it wasn't particularly significant for them.
He had also mentioned that it required proper management to yield profits in the billions. Given what he knew about Garrett, this man lacked talents. If Garrett could handle the project without incurring losses, it would be a miracle.
Garrett was unaware that he was being set up. Hearing Lance's response, he happily fidgeted with his fingers and couldn't help but push his luck further when he saw Lance's amiable expression. "Mr. Mercer, if our companies cooperate well this time, I hope you will continue to support us in the future."
"We'll see about that," Lance replied, knowing Garrett's intentions but not giving a direct answer.
Garrett was not satisfied with this response, but seeing the coldness on Lance's face, he decided to leave it at that.
Although Lance hadn't agreed to his request, he hadn't outright refused either. Once Deanna married into the Mercer family, Garrett believed he would still have opportunities.
With this thought, Garrett smiled again and nodded. "Since Mr. Mercer said we'll see, let's complete this project first and then discuss further cooperation. This will also give you a chance to see our company's capabilities."
Lance replied with "Okay" and then expressed his intention to leave. This time, Garrett did not try to stop him. He personally escorted Lance downstairs and watched him drive away before excitedly returning to his office.
Back in his office, Garrett wasted no time and called his assistant. "Transfer the ownership of Vortex Technology to Deanna's name and draft a new cooperation agreement."
"Yes," the assistant nodded and left to carry out the orders.
Unbeknownst to Garrett, as soon as the ownership was transferred, Emily and Mia received the news. They had always considered these assets as their own.
Almost immediately, mother and daughter were on the phone.
"Mom, Vortex Technology was just renamed under Deanna's name. What's going on?" Emily questioned with a tone of displeasure.
Mia knew a bit more about the situation. With a cold look in her eyes, she said, "I heard from an insider at the company that Lance visited your dad today. This must be related to him. I'll ask your dad about it when he gets home."
"Alright, let me know what you find out," Emily replied without arguing further with her mother.
The call ended quickly. Mia put down her phone with a troubled expression.
Over the years, she had maintained a virtuous facade in front of Garrett but was well aware of the Jones family's business affairs.
Vortex Technology had been founded by Olivia and had always been the most profitable under the Jones Group. Although it had declined under Garrett's leadership in recent years, Mia believed that with proper restructuring and management, its profits could still be considerable. This was why she had been advising Garrett not to give up on it.
Mia had planned to find an opportunity to take over the company from Garrett and transfer it to Emily's name, allowing her to manage it from behind the scenes as a safety net for them both.
Now, her plans were disrupted, making her very angry.
Especially knowing that the company was given to Deanna made her even more determined not to let Deanna have it.
However, regardless of her feelings, she knew she had to proceed cautiously because Deanna had the powerful Mercer family backing her.
That evening, Garrett returned home reeking of alcohol. Seeing him in such a state, Mia hurriedly went up to support him, feigning concern. "Why did you drink so much? I wanted to ask you something."
"Hehe, I'm happy today! My company is saved! I couldn't help but drink more," Garrett said as he sat down on the sofa like a lord, boasting arrogantly. "Let me tell you, from today onwards, our Jones family is part of high society! Do you know? Lance came to see me today and agreed to cooperate with Jones Group on a project worth billions!"
