Seeing Deanna return in a huff, Lance put down his magazine and smiled faintly. He stood up from the chair and said, "It seems you got the answers you were looking for."
Hearing this, Deanna thought of what Old Hughes had just said and felt her anger towards the man in front of her grow.
"Lance, what exactly do you mean?"
She glared at him, accusingly, "Why didn't you tell Old Walsh that we aren't in that kind of relationship? And why did you agree to let Old Walsh arrange for us to be together? Don't you know this will cause misunderstandings? What are you thinking?"
By the end of her rant, Deanna was almost losing it.
Lance hadn't expected such a strong reaction from Deanna, but he didn't regret it.
He approached her, ignoring the anger on her face, and bent slightly, speaking words that left much to the imagination.
"What you think is what I mean."
Deanna was stunned.
Looking into Lance's deep eyes, she felt a wave of panic.
She turned her head away, her eyes flickering. "I don't know what you're talking about. Anyway, you can't stay in my room tonight. Go find Old Walsh and ask him to arrange another room for you!"
She reached out to push him away but couldn't move him.
Lance stood his ground, looking down at the woman trying to avoid him. Suddenly, he didn't want her to keep running away.
Moreover, it had only been a few days since they were apart, and already other men were noticing her charm.
Because of this, Lance didn't want to wait any longer.
He didn't want more rivals in the future and decided to make things clear.
"What if I say I want to stay?"
Deanna bit her lip, unsure how to respond.
Especially since she noticed something different about the man in front of her.
Before she could figure it out, his deep, magnetic voice sounded again by her ear. "Besides, we already have children. Why don't we make start a relationship? It would save a lot of people from worrying about us."
Although Lance said this lightly, he was very nervous inside.
Deanna was completely stunned. She looked up in disbelief and met his affectionate gaze.
Her mind went blank, her face flushed red, and she didn't know how to respond.
Lance didn't give her time to calm down and pressed on. "I've said what I think. What about you?"
Feeling him getting closer, Deanna became even more nervous and flustered.
She bit her lower lip tightly, her mind in chaos.
Lance saw her reaction and asked again, "Why aren't you saying anything?"
"Don't push me!"
Deanna closed her eyes and took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down.
She frowned at the man in front of her and said, "I told you before that I don't want to date anyone right now. Besides, my mother's death hasn't been fully investigated. I can't be with you."
Lance wasn't surprised by her expected refusal.
But he didn't give up. Instead, he coaxed, "You did say that before. But so much time has passed. I think you should reconsider. Even if not for yourself, then for the sake of our children. As for your mother's situation, I don't think it's a reason to reject me. You know I'm also a victim in this matter."
Deanna was speechless and even wavered.
After all, she wasn't completely indifferent to Lance.
She remembered every single thing this man had done for her.
Lance noticed her softening attitude and smiled triumphantly. He continued to coax her. "Besides, us being together won't affect the investigation into your mother's death. It might even speed up finding the truth. The Jones family has been declining recently. If they know we're together, they'll definitely try to win you over. Don't you want to find out the truth about your mother yourself?"
These words hit Deanna's soft spot, making it hard for her to refuse.
"Alright, I agree with your proposal."
In the end, she nodded in agreement but was too shy to look at Lance.
Lance was stunned for a moment before realizing what Deanna had said. He couldn't hide his joy.
He moved closer to Deanna and lowered his head to confirm again, "So we are in love now?"
Deanna softly hummed in agreement, still not daring to look at him directly, feeling extremely shy inside.
Under the light, her fair cheeks were tinged with a blush that was indescribably charming.
Lance felt a ripple in his heart and his smile grew wider.
He couldn't help but hug the woman in front of him and laughed joyfully. "Great, we're finally together."
Deanna's cheek pressed against his chest without saying a word. But the smile in her eyes showed that she was very happy at this moment.
