The next morning, Deanna woke up early. She got the two little ones ready before heading downstairs.
Downstairs, Samantha was already dressed and sitting on the sofa. Nearby, her packed luggage was ready to go. When she saw Deanna and the children coming down, her eyes lit up, and she waved at the kids.
"Gregory, Chloe, come here."
"What's up, Grannie?" The two little ones ran over to ask.
Samantha hugged them tightly, reluctant to let go. "Grannie is leaving soon. Would you like to come back with me? Grannie will miss you."
She genuinely wanted them to come with her, but the kids shook their heads.
"Even though we'll miss you too, Grannie, we want to stay and take care of Uncle."
"When Uncle gets better, we'll go back with him to visit you. How about that?"
Samantha felt disappointed but didn't say anything more. After breakfast, they all headed to the airport.
Before parting, Samantha looked at Deanna and reminded her, "Take good care of the children."
"I will," Deanna nodded.
Samantha hesitated as if she had more to say. Deanna noticed and asked, "Is there something else you'd like to tell me?"
Samantha's eyes darkened. "Even though you saved Lance, I still can't accept you. You're far from the daughter-in-law I imagined."
Deanna wasn't surprised by this. She looked at Samantha calmly after a moment of silence. "Feelings are beyond my control. I don't know what kind of daughter-in-law you have in mind, but I don't think I can't meet your expectations. The most important thing is that Mr. Mercer thinks I'm good enough."
Samantha was left speechless and her face turned sour. Deanna didn't mind and listened to the boarding announcement. "It's time for boarding. Have a safe trip back, Mrs. Mercer."
She then lowered her head and signaled the kids to say goodbye to Samantha. The children were a bit downcast. They had overheard the conversation and knew their Grannie didn't want their mommy and Uncle Lance together, which made them sad.
But out of politeness, they still waved goodbye to Samantha.
After seeing Samantha off, Deanna and the kids left the airport and headed to the hospital.
On the way, the children were unusually quiet. Deanna looked at them worriedly and asked, "What's wrong?"
"Mommy, why doesn't Grannie like you being with Uncle?"
"You and Uncle look so good together."
The kids looked at Deanna in confusion. Their words left Deanna unsure how to respond.
She thought for a moment and said, "Well, do you think Uncle Lance is great?"
"Uncle Lance is awesome and very handsome."
"And super talented!"
The kids eagerly listed Lance's good points.
Deanna smiled and nodded. "You see, you both think Uncle Lance is amazing. So naturally, Grannie thinks her child is exceptional and wants someone equally outstanding for him."
The kids were a bit confused by this explanation. But Gregory soon understood and pouted, "So Grannie thinks Mommy isn't good enough?"
"That's not true! Mommy is amazing," Chloe protested on behalf of her mother.
Deanna felt warmth in her heart seeing this. She ruffled their hair and said, "Alright, this is an adult matter. You kids don't need to worry about it."
The kids frowned but seeing that Mommy didn't want to discuss it further, they stayed silent. However, they kept it in mind and planned to ask Godmother for advice later.
Later that day, they arrived at the hospital. In the ward, Lance was leaning against the headboard with a laptop on the table in front of him, conducting a remote meeting.
Deanna saw this and didn't disturb him. She told the kids, "Stay here quietly and don't bother your uncle. Mommy will go to the kitchen to make some medicinal cuisine for him."
"Go ahead, Mommy. We'll be good," the kids nodded obediently.
Deanna then went to the kitchen. The kids saw this as a rare opportunity and immediately took out their phone to message their Godmother.
"Godmother, what should we do if Uncle's mommy doesn't like him being with our mommy?"
Luckily, Julia was a night owl and replied promptly.
Julia asked, "What's going on? Did you meet your Uncle Lance's mother?"
"Uncle got hurt, so Grannie came to see him. But today she told Mommy she doesn't like them being together. It's so unfair because they look perfect together," Gregory typed with pursed lips.
Soon, Julia replied again, "Those are secondary factors. The most important thing is how your mommy and Uncle Lance feel about it."
