"Miss Cody, you misunderstand me. I would never let you take such a risk. I have an idea for a collaboration. If it succeeds, you might still have a chance to marry into the Mercer family," Alonso tempted her.
Bella couldn't deny that she was tempted. However, she knew that if she agreed immediately, she would be at a disadvantage in this negotiation.
"Even without your cooperation, I can still marry into the Mercer family."
"Miss Cody, you seem quite confident. But sometimes confidence needs to be grounded in reality," Alonso hinted.
Bella understood and fell silent. Eventually, she gave up her pretense and said in a low voice, "I have a flight at three. You'd better make it quick."
"Of course," Alonso replied with a smug laugh over the phone.
After a night's rest, Deanna felt much better. After a simple breakfast, she took the two little ones and went to the hospital with Samantha.
Upon arriving at the ward, Deanna found not only Braylon but also the doctors she had driven away yesterday. She instinctively looked at Xavier, silently asking why they were there.
Xavier understood and explained, "They want to see how you treat Mr. Mercer. After your treatment yesterday, his condition improved significantly."
Deanna was surprised but understood. Samantha, however, frowned in dissatisfaction.
"What's there to see? What if they interfere with the treatment? No, they must leave," she ordered the bodyguards outside to remove them.
The doctors left in shame and frustration but had no choice. Soon, only Deanna, Braylon, and a few others remained in the ward.
Seeing that Samantha had no intention of leaving, Deanna didn't insist. However, she was concerned about the two little ones. Lance's wound, even after some toxins were removed yesterday, was still frightening. She didn't want to scare the children.
"Mr. Nelson, could you please take the children out for a while?" Deanna asked Xavier.
Xavier understood and was about to agree when Samantha interrupted.
"Why should they leave?" Samantha asked in confusion.
The two little ones also looked at Deanna with pouting faces.
"Mommy, can't we stay? We promise not to disturb you," Chloe said in her sweet voice.
Deanna was in a dilemma. Fortunately, Xavier stepped in to explain, "Madam, Dr. Deanna is worried that Mr. Mercer's wound might scare Master Gregory and Miss Chloe."
Realizing her oversight, Samantha understood that Deanna was thinking of the children's well-being.
"In that case, I'll take them outside to wait," Samantha said. Although she wanted to stay with her son, she didn't want to frighten her grandchildren.
The two little ones left reluctantly but obediently. Once the door closed, Deanna and Braylon got busy again. With yesterday's experience, today's treatment went more smoothly.
However, after a round of acupuncture, Deanna was exhausted and sat on the sofa, sipping ginseng tea prepared by Xavier.
Braylon dealt with the toxic blood from Lance's body. Perhaps due to the ginseng tea, Deanna quickly regained some strength. She followed Braylon out of the ward and found many people in the corridor. The doctors who had been driven away earlier were still there.
Seeing Deanna and Braylon come out, they couldn't help but surround them.
"Dr. Cohen, how is the patient's condition today? Has there been any change?"
Samantha wanted to ask about her son's condition but held back. Her displeasure was evident, and the two little ones noticed it.
"Don't worry, Grannie. With Mommy here, Uncle Lance will be fine," Chloe reassured sweetly.
"Mommy is very skilled; Uncle Lance will be okay," Gregory echoed.
Samantha calmed down, recalling what the doctors had said about her son's condition yesterday.
However, Deanna was not having an easy time. The foreign doctors surrounded her with questions about her treatment methods.
"What is the principle behind your treatment?"
"Why does inserting needles into the patient cause the toxins to flow out?"
"And how did you stop the bleeding without using any medication yesterday?"
These were questions Braylon also wanted to ask, so he didn't help fend off his colleagues. Instead, he joined them in seeking answers from Deanna.
Deanna had never encountered such a situation before and was both amused and helpless. "Please be quiet. I can only answer one question at a time."
