Facing the insistence of the two who wanted to stay, Xavier felt a headache coming on.
Just as he was contemplating whether to forcibly take them away, he heard Mr. Mercer's voice.
"Go instruct the staff to bring breakfast here."
"Yes," Xavier nodded and left.
Shortly after, Xavier returned with the staff, pushing a breakfast cart into the room and setting the meals on the table one by one.
"Miss King, Master Gregory, Miss Chloe, breakfast is ready."
"You all eat first; I'll eat later," Lance responded lightly, using a towel to wipe the sweat from Deanna's forehead.
Julia watched his actions, pouted, and muttered softly, "Now you know how to care for her. Where were you yesterday?"
Xavier choked on his own saliva and gave Julia a look of admiration.
It seemed this woman had activated some mechanism last night; now she dared to say anything.
Xavier's reaction naturally drew the attention of others.
"What are you doing?" Julia frowned at him, her eyes full of disdain.
Lance also shot a warning glance at Xavier, signaling him to be quiet and not disturb Deanna's rest.
Seeing this, Xavier quickly settled down.
After breakfast, the two little ones sat on the sofa playing with their mommy's phone.
Julia was handling work.
Lance remained by Deanna's side.
The room was quiet, but the scene was warm.
No one knew how much time had passed when Deanna, who had been in a deep sleep, slowly woke up.
"You're awake," Lance was the first to notice Deanna waking up.
Seeing him, Deanna was visibly stunned for a moment and asked hoarsely, "Why are you here?"
After speaking, Deanna felt a sharp pain in her throat and coughed lightly twice.
Lance quickly helped her sit up and gently patted her back.
As Deanna's breathing steadied, memories of her fainting finally came back to her.
She remembered having a fever, hearing someone knock on the door, trying to get up to open it, and then collapsing to the floor.
Just as she was thinking about this, a glass of water was handed to her, accompanied by a man's gentle voice. "Drink some water to soothe your throat."
"Thank you, I'll do it myself," Deanna responded, taking the glass and thanking him.
Lance didn't insist and watched as she sipped the water slowly.
At this moment, Julia and the two little ones gathered around.
"Mommy, you're finally awake."
"Deanna, how are you feeling? Is there any discomfort?"
Hearing the concern from her friend and children, Deanna shook her head gently and smiled faintly. "I'm fine. Why are you all here? Didn't you go out to play?"
"With you sick, how could we go out and have fun?"
Julia pouted at her and asked with concern again, "How are you feeling? Any discomfort?"
Deanna smiled slightly. "I'm okay, just a bit heavy-headed. Don't worry."
"We gave you cold medicine last night as a precaution. How did you still get sick? Could it be fake medicine?" Julia muttered softly and glanced disdainfully at Lance.
Lance's expression stiffened.
Xavier was speechless but still stood up for Mr. Mercer. "Miss King, the cold medicine was requested by Mr. Mercer from the inn."
In other words, even if it was fake medicine, it had nothing to do with Mr. Mercer.
Deanna looked at her friend standing up for her and couldn't help but laugh, feeling more touched than anything else.
She tugged at her friend's sleeve and whispered, "My illness this time probably has nothing to do with the medicine. It might be because I kicked off my blanket at night. I vaguely remember waking up cold once last night."
Hearing this, Julia stopped mocking Lance.
Xavier breathed a sigh of relief and offered, "Since Dr. Deanna is awake, I'll go get some porridge."
"Go ahead," Lance nodded in agreement.
Deanna thanked him.
For the rest of the day, Deanna stayed in the room to rest.
Lance wanted to stay and take care of her, but with Julia and the two little ones staying as well and subtly reminding him that he should leave, he eventually complied with their wishes and offered to leave.
However, before leaving, he reminded Deanna, "If you need anything, contact me anytime. I'll be in my room."
"Okay," Deanna nodded and watched him leave.
Once he was gone, she turned back with a mix of amusement and exasperation to look at her friend and the two children. "What's going on with you all?"
"Godmother said Uncle doesn't know how to care for people and that we should teach him how to take care of Mommy properly," Chloe eagerly replied.
Deanna couldn't help but laugh. "What do you mean he doesn't know how to care? And teaching him? Julia, I think you're asking for trouble. If my kids get misguided by you, I won't let you off."
She pretended to glare fiercely at her friend.
Julia rubbed her nose guiltily but then seemed to realize something and chuckled mischievously.
"Deanna, you didn't deny it just now. So... is there something going on between you and Mr. Mercer?"
