Upon hearing this, a cold glint flashed in Lance's eyes.
He stopped his work, looked up, and asked, "Who?"
"Based on the clues from the police and our investigation, all evidence points to Miss Cody from the Cody family," Xavier said in a deep voice.
Lance's eyes narrowed dangerously. "You mean Bella?"
"Yes, it's her," Xavier nodded.
Hearing this, Lance frowned, confusion flickering in his eyes. "What is her motive?"
He couldn't understand. After all, Deanna and Bella didn't even know each other.
Xavier thought for a moment and tentatively suggested, "Could it be because of unrequited love? Miss Cody might have learned about Dr. Deanna from somewhere and wanted to eliminate her..."
"Isn't she afraid I'll find out?" Lance's face turned cold.
Xavier hesitated, then cautiously glanced at him and slowly said, "I think Miss Cody believed her plan was foolproof."
"How so?" Lance's cold gaze made Xavier shiver, but he braced himself and continued, "From the police investigation into Guillermo, it appears Miss Cody framed Dr. Deanna by setting up a chain of events."
Lance fell silent upon hearing this.
Seeing that Mr. Mercer hadn't stopped him, Xavier continued, "She first contacted Guillermo via email, instructing him to approach Ricky. After Dr. Deanna got into trouble, she changed the email's IP address. Although IP addresses can be altered, they can also be traced back if the code is cracked."
He paused, feeling indignant for Deanna. "Dr. Deanna was so unlucky to be in such trouble. Clearly, you and Dr. Deanna are just patient and doctor."
Lance shot him a displeased look. "What do you mean by 'just patient and doctor'?"
"Uh... what else? Friends?" Xavier asked hesitantly.
Lance's face darkened further, his voice dangerous as he gritted out, "Xavier!"
"Mr. Mercer, I apologize. Dr. Deanna is also the mother of your children," Xavier quickly corrected himself, though he couldn't help but think that even so, Dr. Deanna had no real connection to him. But he dared not say it aloud.
Lance's expression hardened with anger. "Since Bella caused this, arrange for Attorney Justin to file a lawsuit against her in Dr. Deanna's name. Tell Bella she either apologizes to Dr. Deanna or faces the consequences."
Seeing Mr. Mercer's anger, Xavier silently pitied Bella. It was clear Mr. Mercer wouldn't let this go.
At the same time, he noticed Mr. Mercer's growing concern for Dr. Deanna. Considering recent events during their trip, he felt Mr. Mercer and Dr. Deanna were close to being together.
With that thought, Xavier composed himself and left to carry out his orders.
That afternoon, in the president's office at Cody Group.
Bella was working when her assistant knocked and entered.
"Miss Cody, there's a lawyer named Justin here to see you on Mr. Mercer's behalf."
"A lawyer?" Bella was surprised, not understanding why Lance would send a lawyer but instructed her assistant to bring him up.
Soon, the assistant returned with Attorney Justin.
Bella looked at him and asked, "Did Lance send you for something?"
"Yes, Miss Cody. Mr. Mercer asked me to deliver this legal letter to you and convey a message," Attorney Justin said as he signaled his assistant to hand over the letter.
He placed the letter on Bella's desk.
Bella was stunned. What was going on? Why would Lance send her a legal letter?
Before she could question him, Attorney Justin continued sternly, "Miss Cody, because you orchestrated an attack on Dr. Deanna, Mr. Mercer demands you either apologize to Dr. Deanna personally or face the consequences."
As soon as he finished speaking, Bella's face changed dramatically.
Lance knew!
She was shocked and panicked but quickly forced herself to calm down.
She had been very secretive about this matter and left no evidence pointing to her. As long as she denied it, she would be fine.
Feigning anger, she put down the letter and snapped, "Nonsense! When did I ever frame Dr. Deanna?!"
Attorney Justin remained unfazed by her denial.
He smiled calmly. "Miss Cody, there's no need to explain to me. I've delivered the message, so I'll take my leave now."
