Xavier nodded in agreement.
Mr. Mercer's illness had persisted for a long time.
They had gone to great lengths to find someone who could alleviate his pain.
Unfortunately, their efforts had always ended in disappointment.
Now, the person who could help had appeared, but it was hard to believe she was such a young woman.
That car accident was their fateful encounter.
At this moment, Lance suddenly instructed, "Buy several sets of Lego while abroad and send them to those twins."
Xavier nodded, looking at him with some surprise.
Why was Mr. Mercer suddenly so concerned about someone else's children?
He tentatively asked, "Do you seem to like those twins very much, Mr. Mercer?"
Lance gazed out the window and sighed.
His eyes were calm and emotionless.
"For some reason, I feel an inexplicable sense of closeness to them."
He was also puzzled as to why he would care about a child's words.
The little one's disappointed look due to the lack of Lego had imprinted on his mind and wouldn't go away.
There must be some connection between him and them.
Xavier didn't think much of it and smiled. "Maybe it's because those two kids are so endearing and smart."
He wasn't surprised; even he liked those two kids-they were so interesting.
"I didn't expect them to be from a single-parent family."
At this point, Xavier suddenly remembered that he had once investigated Miss Jones but had been too busy to review the information recently.
He took out his tablet, looked at her file, and was immediately shocked.
"Mr. Mercer, Miss Jones is the eldest daughter of the Jones family, who caused quite a stir five years ago!"
Lance frowned and asked, "What's the story?"
The eldest daughter of the Jones family? He seemed to have heard of her but couldn't recall clearly.
Xavier explained, "She was engaged to Raphael, the heir of the Howard family. But before they could marry, she spent a night with another man at a party and lost her reputation. The incident caused a big scandal. Her mother, Olivia, couldn't bear the blow and committed suicide. Her father, Garrett, kicked her out. The Howard family also abandoned her, and Raphael got engaged to her sister. They are getting married in a few days."
He sighed with some regret. "I didn't expect her to fall to such a state."
Lance listened carefully and asked, "Are the twins Raphael's?"
Xavier shook his head. "Probably not. She was disgraced because of that incident years ago. If they were Raphael's, the Howard family wouldn't have abandoned her. The father of those two children is likely unknown."
Lance pictured the twins in his mind. "They are so smart. Their father shouldn't be an ordinary figure."
Xavier agreed.
He curiously asked, "A discarded daughter with such medical skills-if any prestigious family knew about her, they would surely try to win her over. How did she end up living so miserably?"
Miss Jones might seem down now, but her future could be promising.
Especially now that she had connected with their president. In the future, even the Jones family might not be able to keep up with her.
Lance didn't answer and remained deep in thought.
They continued discussing Deanna's information until they arrived at the airport.
Lance booked a ticket and flew abroad that day.
For the next few days, Deanna's life remained peaceful.
She busied herself in the herb garden, taking care of the plants and researching new medicinal herbs.
The two children were very sensible and helped her with many tasks, warming her heart.
A week later, she received an unexpected call.
"Hello?"
She asked casually, thinking it was a sales call.
"It's me."
The familiar voice made her instantly serious as memories flooded back.
It was her biological father, Garrett Jones!
She instinctively wanted to hang up when a sentence came through from the other end.
"Next Wednesday is your sister's wedding banquet with Raphael. You need to come."
The tone was commanding.
It wasn't a request but an order.
She let out a sarcastic laugh. Was this really her father?
For six years, this so-called biological father hadn't cared about her at all.
Now, after six years, he called without any concern for her but just gave her an order.
Why did he think she would agree?
She sneered, her voice icy. "I'm not part of the Jones family anymore. Why should I attend the wedding? I'm busy and don't have time."
They had kicked her out back then. It was Garrett himself who said that from that day on, she was no longer his daughter.
Now he wanted to acknowledge her? Too late.
Garrett's anger flared at her words. He didn't like her attitude at all.
He had known this rebellious daughter wouldn't come back easily.
But he had prepared for this!
"If you don't come back, you won't get your mother's belongings."
He had made contingency plans to ensure she had no choice but to return.
She cared most about her mother; using her as bait would surely bring Deanna back.
Deanna paused and immediately asked, "What belongings?"
She grew nervous, gripping her phone tightly, afraid to miss a single word.
