Upon hearing Old Hughes' words, Lance realized the magnitude of the task.
He frowned, about to say something, when Old Hughes spoke again.
"Although it's a lot of work, since it concerns Anna's innocence, I'll put my pride aside and help her find the evidence. I can't do it alone. Old Wright will also help!"
"Thank you both. If you find anything, please let me know immediately," Lance said gratefully.
Old Hughes nodded in understanding.
After chatting for a while longer, Lance left.
It was already evening, and he was worried about the two children at home.
Given all that had happened today, he was concerned that the children might be affected.
Indeed, the two little ones were quite anxious. Though Lance had brought them home, their high intelligence made them aware of what had happened to their mother, and they were very worried.
All afternoon, they sat on the living room sofa, waiting for their uncle to return and update them.
Later, they heard noises at the door and immediately looked up.
"Uncle, you're back!" they said in unison, jumping off the sofa and running over.
They rushed to Lance and eagerly asked, "Uncle, is our mommy okay? When will she be released?"
Seeing their worried faces, Lance was silent for a moment, unsure how to answer.
Without solid evidence, he couldn't guarantee when Deanna would be released.
Noticing Lance's hesitation, the children's bright eyes gradually dimmed.
Lance quickly tried to comfort them. "Don't worry. Uncle will find a way to get your mommy out as soon as possible."
"We believe in you, Uncle," they nodded, looking at him trustingly.
Lance silently patted their heads and asked, "Have you eaten yet?"
"Not yet," Chloe shook her head, her voice low.
Gregory also looked down, clearly not in the mood to eat.
Lance noticed this and gently coaxed them. "You need to eat. Otherwise, your mommy will worry."
Understanding his words, the children obediently followed Lance to have dinner.
Meanwhile, Julia and Landon rushed to the police station.
"Deanna, what's going on?" they asked anxiously upon seeing her.
Deanna didn't hide anything and explained the situation briefly.
In a heavy voice, she said, "I can assure you that my prescription did not contain musk. I just don't understand why Ricky would frame me!"
"Why else? He must be trying to extort money!" Julia said through gritted teeth.
Landon's face was equally grim. "I'll have someone investigate this," he said coldly.
Then he asked, "What about Grandma and the kids? They must be worried. Should I take them to my place for a few days?"
"Thank you, but there's no need. Mr. Mercer has already arranged everything," Deanna replied softly.
Julia raised an eyebrow subtly, while Landon seemed surprised but didn't dwell on it given the situation.
After a few more words, visiting hours ended, and Landon and Julia had to leave.
The next morning, Lance was having breakfast with the children when the butler came in. "Mr. Mercer, Mr. Nelson is here."
"I see. Please take him to the study upstairs," Lance instructed.
He then turned to the children and said gently, "After breakfast, I'll have the butler take you to school. I'll update you on your mommy's situation tonight."
"Okay, thank you, Uncle," Gregory said seriously.
Feeling responsible as the man of the house now that his mommy was in trouble, Gregory took his role seriously.
Lance noticed this and felt both amused and heartbroken.
After breakfast and sending the children off, Lance headed to the study.
Inside, Xavier stood up respectfully as Lance entered. "Mr. Mercer."
"Sit," Lance gestured for him to sit down and asked, "Have you found anything?"
Xavier nodded and reported his findings. "I discovered that Ricky owes $4, 000, 000 in high-interest loans. Considering his behavior at the police station yesterday, I suspect this medical incident was a deliberate act to extort Dr. Deanna for money."
Hearing this, Lance's face darkened with anger. His entire demeanor exuded a chilling aura.
Clearly, he was genuinely furious.
Narrowing his eyes dangerously, his deep black gaze filled with icy indifference as he asked, "Is there any other evidence?"
