For the next two days, the old lady continued taking the medicine prescribed by Deanna. However, because she had to go out during the day to collect recyclables, her body remained exhausted, and her condition did not improve significantly.
Deanna did not know this.
With different patients coming to see her every day, she gradually forgot about the old lady.
Until this day, when she was preparing to send the two little ones to school.
Unexpectedly, as soon as she opened the door, she saw a somewhat familiar young man leading a group of men with ill intentions, storming in aggressively.
"You quack! You killed my mother! Pay for her life!"
Deanna was stunned by the scene in front of her and was terrified.
But her body instinctively shielded the two children.
Gregory and Chloe were also frightened.
However, Gregory remained relatively calm, tugging at Deanna's clothes and whispering, "Mommy, this is the man who accompanied the old lady that night."
Hearing this, Deanna remembered him and immediately frowned.
"What happened to your mother?"
"Ever since my mother took your medicine, her condition worsened day by day. Last night, she suddenly had a heart attack and was admitted to the ICU. The chances of recovery are slim. You wretch! You killed my mother! I won't let you get away with this! Boys, let's go in and smash their house!"
With that, the young man signaled his followers to charge in.
Deanna didn't dare to stop them, her face pale as she protected the two little ones.
She quickly remembered her grandmother still inside the house and was about to rush in when she heard her grandmother's exclamation.
"Who are you? What do you want?"
Old Ashley heard the commotion from inside the room and came out to see a group of delinquents smashing their belongings. Her face changed instantly, and she tried to stop them.
When Deanna came in, she saw this scene and hurriedly ran over to intervene.
"Grandma, don't confront them."
As she spoke, she held her grandmother with one hand and shielded the two children behind her with the other.
At this moment, a few more people entered from outside; they were media reporters.
"Excuse me, is this Deanna's home?"
"This is it!"
Seeing the reporters, the young man responded while pulling one of them forward.
He pointed at Deanna with a face full of resentment and said, "It's this woman. My mother heard she was a good doctor and came to seek treatment. After taking her medicine for two days, she suddenly had a heart attack and is now in the ICU, her life hanging by a thread."
Upon hearing this, the reporters' eyes lit up.
This was big news.
"May I ask your name?"
One of the reporters approached Deanna with an interview device.
Deanna pressed her lips together but still spoke, "My name is Deanna Jones. I can assure you that there is nothing wrong with the medicine I prescribed. I have already called the police. If there are any issues, let the police question me when they arrive. I have the right to remain silent now."
"You quack! You harmed my mother and still act so arrogant."
The young man was displeased by Deanna's words and clenched his fists as if he was about to come over.
Deanna's eyes showed fear but she stood firm because behind her were the most important people in her life.
She couldn't let her grandmother and the children get hurt.
Fortunately, at this moment, the police arrived just in time.
Seeing the chaotic scene in front of them, they frowned and asked sternly, "Who called the police?"
"I did," Deanna responded, breathing a sigh of relief.
With the police here, at least she, the children, and her grandmother would be safe.
The young man also shouted, "I want to report too! This quack almost killed my mother. I want to accuse her of practicing without a license and illegally running a clinic."
Hearing this, the police looked at Deanna.
"Is what he said true?"
"It's not true," Deanna refuted firmly and explained to the police, "I have a medical license and all necessary permits for my practice. Do you want to see them?"
The police nodded. "If you have them, please show us."
Upon hearing this, Deanna turned to go to her bedroom to get her medical license.
These were all arranged by her mentor before he left.
The young man's face changed as he watched Deanna disappear into the room.
This was an unexpected turn for him.
But even if this woman had these documents, it didn't change the fact that his mother had an incident after taking her medicine.
"You may have these documents, but my mother is still in ICU because of your medicine. Who knows if your documents are even real?"
Deanna ignored him and looked directly at the police, waiting for them to speak.
Old Ashley couldn't help but speak up for her granddaughter. "Sir, Anna would never harm anyone. There must be some misunderstanding."
"Ma'am, we will investigate thoroughly," said one of the officers as he handed back Deanna's documents. "Miss Jones, please come with us to the station for further investigation."
Deanna nodded. "I will cooperate."
"Mommy..."
The two little ones tugged at Deanna's sleeve in fear.
Deanna gently patted their heads and reassured them, "Don't worry. Mommy will be fine."
