Chapter 242 I Will Not Let You Go

At ten in the morning, Deanna and Landon arrived in Xison.

The first thing they did was go to the hospital.

Upon arrival, Deanna opened the car door and got out.

Landon rolled down the window and reminded her, "I won't go up with you. I have some things to handle. Call me when you're done, and I'll come to pick you up."

"Okay, you go ahead."

Deanna nodded and watched Landon leave.

Soon, she was alone.

Instead of heading straight into the hospital, she went to a nearby gift shop, bought flowers and a fruit basket, and then walked towards the hospital.

Deanna arrived at the lawyer's hospital room and knocked before entering.

As soon as she walked in, she noticed that besides the old lawyer, there was a man and a woman in the room.

Judging by their appearance, they were likely the old lawyer's son and daughter-in-law.

The old lawyer became emotional the moment he saw Deanna.

"It's you..."

He pointed at Deanna with a trembling hand, his voice hoarse.

His son and daughter-in-law were stunned, looking puzzled.

What was going on? Did the old man know this distinguished-looking woman?

Before they could speak, Deanna nodded at them and placed the flowers and fruit basket by the bedside.

"It seems Attorney Ferell still remembers me."

Deanna smiled lightly as she spoke.

Attorney Ferell calmed down and said, "I didn't expect you to find me after all these years. You're here about your mother, aren't you?"

Deanna did not deny it.

She stared steadily at Attorney Ferell and said in a low voice, "I want to know what really happened to my mother back then. And is that so-called will real?"

Attorney Ferell's lips moved as if he remembered something. His chest began to heave violently, and his face turned pale.

Seeing this, Deanna felt a pang of guilt but couldn't help but continue asking. These questions had troubled her for five years; she needed to know the truth.

"My mother was always strong. When my father cheated on her, she didn't seek death. I don't believe she would commit suicide because of my scandal. My mother loved me very much; she wouldn't abandon me. Attorney Ferell, is there more to this?"

Unexpectedly, as soon as she finished speaking, Attorney Ferell became inexplicably agitated and then lost consciousness from the stress.

At that moment, Patricia, Ferell's wife, walked in and rushed to the bedside in panic.

"Ferell, what's wrong? Ferell..."

The son and daughter-in-law were also frightened but quickly pressed the call button above the bed.

Within two minutes, a doctor arrived with nurses to perform an examination and treatment.

"I told you the patient can't be agitated in his current condition. What did you do to almost cause another episode?"

After the treatment, the doctor looked disapprovingly at Ferell's family.

Patricia heard this and immediately blamed Deanna for what had happened.

"It's you, isn't it? Who are you? Why are you harming Ferell?"

Patricia grabbed Deanna and shook her angrily. "I tell you, if Ferell's condition worsens because of you, I will not let you go!"

Deanna staggered as Patricia grabbed her.

She wanted to break free but feared pushing the elderly woman, so she let Patricia hold onto her.

In the end, it was Attorney Ferell's son who intervened to stop his mother.

"Mom, calm down. I don't think this lady did it on purpose."

As he spoke, he looked at Deanna with a complex expression.

From their conversation earlier, he had guessed some things.

It was clear that his father had been this lady's mother's lawyer and might know some hidden secrets.

With this in mind, he signaled to his wife.

Understanding his cue, his wife helped Patricia away. "Mom, let's sit over there. Dad will be fine."

Attorney Ferell's son then turned back to Deanna and gestured for her to follow him outside.

"Miss, let's talk outside."

Deanna nodded and left the room.

At the end of the corridor, they stood facing each other.

Attorney Ferell's son spoke first. "You saw my father's condition. He can't handle matters from back then right now."

"I understand, and I'm sorry. I didn't mean to upset him," Deanna said apologetically.

Attorney Ferell's son shook his head. "I know."

He paused before continuing. "If you're not in a hurry, I hope you'll wait until my father is better. I'll ask him for you. Or if you're in a rush, I can help investigate. Once we have results, we'll contact you."

Though he said this, Deanna understood his underlying message: he hoped she wouldn't disturb Attorney Ferell further.

Since Attorney Ferell's son had agreed to help, Deanna decided to be considerate and agreed.

"Let's exchange contact information then."
