The next morning, Deanna accompanied her grandmother and the two little ones for breakfast when Landon arrived.
As soon as he entered, Landon politely greeted Old Ashley.
"Grandma, I came to see you. Gregory, Chloe, did you miss me?"
At the end of his sentence, he playfully winked at the two little ones.
The kids hadn't forgotten him and nodded politely, "We did."
After some small talk, Deanna left with Landon.
Just as they left, Lance and Julia arrived and met downstairs.
Julia looked surprised, "Mr. Mercer, what brings you here?"
"I heard Dr. Deanna is busy today and won't be around. I was a bit worried about the kids, so I came to check on them," Lance replied calmly.
The elevator arrived, and he pressed the button to enter, then looked at Julia.
Seeing this, Julia quickly stepped into the elevator, her curiosity piqued as she stole glances at the outstanding man beside her.
Although Deanna said she and Mr. Mercer were just friends, Julia felt they seemed more like friends that flirt.
Lance sensed the curious gaze behind him but didn't pay it much mind.
When the elevator doors opened, Lance and Julia walked out one after the other.
At that moment, Chloe and Gregory heard the noise and opened the door cheerfully. "Godmother... huh, Uncle Lance?"
Seeing the tall and handsome man in front of them, the two little ones were stunned. Fortunately, they quickly recovered and surrounded him with smiles.
"Uncle Lance, why are you here?"
"Are you here to see Mommy?"
Old Ashley heard the children's voices and came out. Seeing Lance at the door, she was a bit surprised. "Mr. Mercer, what brings you here? Are you looking for Deanna?"
"No, Grandma. I'm here to take the kids to school," Lance explained directly.
Old Ashley was visibly taken aback and instinctively looked at Julia.
Didn't her granddaughter say yesterday that Julia would take the kids to school? How did it become Mr. Mercer?
Julia noticed Old Ashley's puzzled look and quickly stepped forward with a smile. "Since Mr. Mercer is here to help take the kids, I'll leave them to him. I have something to attend to shortly."
She said this because she noticed that Lance gave Deanna special treatment and didn't want to interfere.
Moreover, she hoped the two would end up together.
Over the years, Deanna had been raising the two kids alone. It was time for a man to take care of and protect her...
Seeing this, Old Ashley quickly waved her hand. "If you have something to do, go ahead. Don't worry about things here."
Julia nodded, said goodbye to the kids, and turned to leave.
Old Ashley looked kindly at Lance. "Thank you for helping today, Mr. Mercer. I'll go get their backpacks."
"Thank you, great-grandma," the two little ones politely thanked her, then looked at Lance with shining eyes.
Seeing their excited expressions, Lance raised an eyebrow and asked, "What's up?"
"Nothing, just didn't expect you to take us to school," Chloe said happily.
The three of them then walked out of the community like a family.
On the way to school, Lance couldn't help but ask the two little ones about Deanna.
"Do you know where your mommy went?"
"No," they shook their heads.
Suddenly, Chloe's eyes twinkled mischievously. "I don't know where Mommy went, but I know she left with a very handsome uncle."
"A very handsome uncle?"
Lance immediately frowned.
Hearing this from the front seat, Xavier couldn't help but feel a jolt of concern. He thought, 'Mr. Mercer won't get angry because Dr. Deanna left with another man, will he?'
The two little ones didn't know what Xavier was thinking. They exchanged glances and continued to embellish their story.
"Uncle Lance, this uncle used to pursue Mommy. They grew up together as childhood sweethearts. But what are childhood sweethearts exactly, brother?" Chloe asked knowingly.
Gregory understood instantly and pretended to be annoyed. "Silly sister, don't you know what childhood sweethearts are? It means two people who have had a good relationship since they were young."
They did this because of their little scheme. Last time they told Uncle Lance about a blind date their mommy had, he went and brought her back. This time Mommy left with their uncle; Uncle Lance didn't know his identity and would surely get jealous.
Little did they know that Lance was more than just jealous; his face had darkened considerably.
So that woman left her kids to go to another city with another man?!
