Chapter 231 I Don't Have Time to Entertain You

In the evening, the free clinical treatment at the pharmacy ended.

Due to Old Hughes' intention of match making them, it was still Lance who came to pick up Deanna.

On the way back, Lance noticed the obvious fatigue on Deanna's face and felt a pang of heartache.

He disapproved, saying, "You've just recovered, is it really okay to work so hard?"

Deanna knew he was concerned about her and smiled gently, feeling inexplicably sweet inside.

"It's nothing," she said, her lips curving slightly. Her bright black eyes looked at Lance, "Besides, don't you think it's meaningful? Especially today, many patients came and received treatment."

As she spoke, she thought of a patient she treated during the day who thanked her gratefully. It made her feel fulfilled.

She smiled brightly at Lance and continued, "Seeing their relieved expressions, not being tormented by illness, gives me a sense of accomplishment. Using what I've learned to help others makes me very happy."

Hearing this and seeing the joy on her face, Lance knew she genuinely enjoyed the process and said no more.

Then he changed the subject, asking, "Tomorrow is the last day. Are you still going?"

"Of course! Although it's tiring, one must finish what they start," Deanna replied without hesitation.

Lance found her unexpectedly cute.

Deanna's clear voice sounded again, "By the way, we need to bring a lot of herbs tomorrow."

"Why?" Lance asked curiously.

Deanna explained, "Some herbs are not available at Old Hughes', and with the ones he ordered himself, we'll be quite busy."

Lance smiled warmly. "That's no problem. I'll have someone help you in the morning."

"No need, we can handle it ourselves. It's not that much trouble," Deanna politely declined.

She felt she had troubled Lance enough in the past two days and didn't want to bother him further.

Lance was unconcerned. "It's no trouble at all. Besides, I don't want you to get tired. If you do, there's no one to help me with my illness."

With that said, Deanna couldn't refuse anymore.

The next morning, Deanna got up early and went to the herb field to gather the herbs needed for Hughes Pharmacy.

After finishing that, she returned to prepare breakfast.

While the family was having breakfast, the doorbell rang.

Deanna thought it was someone Lance sent to help. To her surprise, when she opened the door, she saw Lance standing outside.

"Mr. Mercer, why are you here? Aren't you going to work today?" she asked in surprise.

Lance smiled lightly. "No work today, so I came to see you and spend time with the kids."

As he spoke, he looked around the room for Chloe and Gregory.

The two little ones heard his voice and ran out of the dining room happily.

"Uncle, you're here," Chloe shouted, hugging Lance's leg affectionately.

Gregory was more reserved, walking up to Lance and giving him a sweet smile.

Lance looked down at the two adorable children and felt his heart melt.

He smiled and said, "Today I'm here to spend time with you. Is that okay?"

He thought they would be thrilled by this. Unexpectedly, Chloe and Gregory blinked and said softly, "But today we are going to help Mommy at the clinic."

"Is that so? Then let's go together," Lance said with a smile.

The two little ones were overjoyed. "Great! We can be with Uncle," Chloe said, clinging to Lance.

Lance looked at them indulgently.

Deanna watched their interaction and couldn't help but smile.

Later, after breakfast, they set off for Hughes Pharmacy.

Since it was the last day, more people came than in the previous two days.

Outside the clinic, long lines had already formed. Nearby, several trucks were unloading herbs. The staff inside were as busy as spinning tops with no chance to rest.

Seeing this, Deanna quickly took the children inside to help.

As soon as they entered the clinic, they saw Old Hughes making arrangements.

Old Hughes also noticed Deanna and Lance coming in with the children like a family.

He first greeted the two little ones kindly. "Chloe, Gregory, long time no see."

"Hello, Old Hughes," they greeted politely.

Deanna smiled and asked proactively, "It looks busy outside. What can I do to help?"

"Go assist with the free clinical treatment. There are too many patients today," Old Hughes said directly without any formalities.

Deanna nodded in understanding.

At this moment, Lance also asked, "What about me? What should I do?"

Unexpectedly, Old Hughes dismissed him immediately. "Just don't cause trouble for me. Stay put; I don't have time to entertain you."

Lance smiled wryly. "No need for you to entertain me."
