"Herb scent?" Sam asked, puzzled. "What is it?"
Deanna smiled and explained again, "Earlier, I placed two sachets on the little ones. These sachets have a calming effect."
"I thought it would help them sleep better. Unexpectedly, it also worked on Demon."
Sam finally understood. "I see."
Deanna nodded and approached the two little ones, calling out, "Alright, you've played enough. It's time to rest."
Seeing the two little ones drenched in sweat, it was clear they had been playing for a long time.
Hearing Deanna's voice, they stopped.
The two little ones walked over, and Deanna quickly took out a handkerchief to wipe their sweat.
With wide eyes, they said in unison, "Mommy, Demon is so cute. Next time, can we bring our two cats to play with him?"
Listening to their innocent voices, Deanna didn't object and smiled, "Sure."
"You two rest for a while. You're all sweaty. Drink some water."
The two little ones nodded obediently. "Okay, Mommy."
Deanna walked over to Demon. As soon as he saw her, he became very docile.
He lay down beside Deanna and even extended his hind leg as if anticipating her actions.
Deanna chuckled, feeling a sense of admiration. Demon was indeed clever.
She picked up her tools and gave Demon a simple check-up.
After the previous treatment, Demon's leg had almost healed and was nearly fully recovered.
Satisfied, she put away her tools and patted Demon's head.
"Little one, soon you'll be able to walk normally!"
Demon stuck out his tongue and lowered his head, rubbing it against Deanna as if to express gratitude.
This amused Deanna.
She walked over to Lance and gave a few simple instructions.
"Remember these precautions. Other than that, there's nothing much. Demon will recover soon."
Lance nodded. "Got it."
"Alright, it's about time for us to leave."
She called the two little ones to get ready to leave.
Hearing this, Lance quickly stood up. "I'll see you off."
Before he could finish speaking, Deanna stopped him. "No need. Mr. Nelson can take us back. You just had acupuncture; drink your medicine and take a bath before going to bed early. Don't trouble yourself."
Lance wanted to say more but was interrupted by Deanna.
"That's settled then. Mr. Nelson, let's go."
Xavier nodded. "Alright, Dr. Deanna, this way please."
As they were about to leave, the two little ones were clearly reluctant.
They each grabbed one of Lance's arms and spoke softly, "Handsome Uncle, we're going home now. We'll come to play with you another day!"
"Handsome Uncle, thank you for playing with us today. See you next time!"
Lance smiled and patted their little heads. "Alright, see you next time."
In the car, the two little ones were still reluctant to leave.
They kept talking, "Today Handsome Uncle played with us. It was so much fun."
"If only it could always be like this..."
Upon hearing this, Deanna's eyes darkened.
She reached out and patted their heads gently.
"Although it was fun, we've troubled Mr. Mercer a lot today. We can't do this next time, understand?"
The two little ones were sensible.
Hearing Deanna's words, they nodded but felt a bit regretful.
Back home, seeing their expressions, Old Ashley asked, "What's wrong? Did you have fun at the parent-teacher meeting today?"
"Yes!"
Mentioning this made the two little ones excited again.
"Today Handsome Uncle acted as our daddy for the day! He even took us to the aquarium. It was so much fun..."
Talking about what happened today, they couldn't stop chattering.
Deanna stood aside, feeling inexplicably uncomfortable.
The two little ones really hoped to have a father.
But she couldn't give them that.
Thinking about it made her heart ache even more.
That night, Deanna finally fell asleep.
In her hazy dreams, the eyes of that eagle from years ago appeared in her mind again.
She woke up suddenly.
Of all things to dream about, why that night...
Deanna rubbed her temples as a thought crossed her mind.
Who was the man in the hotel back then?
This question surged in her mind with unusual intensity.
That man was the biological father of the two little ones. If... if she could find him, wouldn't she be able to give Gregory and Chloe a complete family?
Moreover, if she found that man, the two little ones wouldn't keep asking to find Lance.
After all, constantly troubling Mr. Mercer wasn't good.
This idea grew stronger in Deanna's mind.
