In the private room, Deanna and Eula sat facing each other.
Neither of them looked well, and neither spoke.
Finally, Eula couldn't hold back and broke the silence. "Miss Deanna, since you have already broken up with Lance, you should stay away from him. One cannot step into the same river twice, right?"
Deanna almost laughed out loud.
It was the first time she had heard someone interpret that saying in such a way.
Eula frowned at Deanna's strange expression. "What? Am I wrong?"
Deanna straightened her posture and met Eula's gaze slowly. "Right and wrong."
She paused, then continued with a faint smile, "You should know that it's normal for couples to break up and get back together."
Eula's unpleasant expression turned even worse. "So, you're planning to reconcile with Lance?"
"There was never a big conflict between us, and besides, he is still the father of my child," Deanna said deliberately to provoke Eula.
Eula was indeed provoked. She stared at Deanna with a vicious look. "Are you playing me?"
"Not just me, but us," Deanna replied fearlessly, meeting Eula's gaze head-on.
After thinking it over last night, she realized that her previous plan to lure out Eula was a waste of time and effort, especially since there had been no progress.
So, she decided to take the initiative.
Eula, after hearing Deanna's words, quickly guessed the real purpose behind their break-up and chuckled. "This wasn't Lance's idea, was it?"
"You're right; it wasn't Lance's idea," Deanna admitted with a nod. She then leaned back on the sofa, staring at Eula, waiting for her reaction.
Eula stared back.
Their eyes locked, sparks flying.
In the end, it was Eula who couldn't hold back. She sneered, "Since you've been pretending to break up for so long, why change your mind today?"
"Maybe because I found it pointless. I am Lance's legitimate fiancée; why should I care about others? Pretending to break up with Lance only made people around us worry about me and him," Deanna said, sharing her newly found clarity.
Eula didn't respond immediately but scrutinized Deanna up and down. "Actually, it's right to be cautious."
"What do you mean? Even if I pretended to break up with Lance, you still targeted me and my child. So why should I bother?" Deanna spread her hands mockingly.
Eula replied, "That's not how it works. If you had honestly broken up with Lance and stayed out of his life forever, I could have let you and your child live. But since you chose otherwise, don't blame me."
As she spoke, the murderous intent around her became almost tangible.
Deanna sensed this chilling aura and tensed up. Her left hand moved subtly at her side.
From a bottle hidden in her palm, some white powder spilled out and dispersed into the air with the help of the air conditioning.
Eula's cold voice echoed in the room again. "Honestly, you're quite lucky. Maybe that's why you're so fearless. But unfortunately..."
"Unfortunately what?" Deanna asked warily.
Eula suddenly smirked. "Unfortunately, I'm not stupid. I won't make a move on you and give you evidence against me. But you-I've heard you injured Lance before. If that happens a few more times, do you think the elders of the Mercer family will allow you near him? And if you hurt your own child, what do you think Lance and others will think of you?"
These words made Deanna clench her fists tightly.
Her gaze turned sharp as a sword as she stared at Eula. "So it was you, wasn't it?"
"I don't understand." Eula feigned ignorance.
She knew what Deanna was referring to, but without evidence, neither Deanna nor Lance could do anything to her.
Eula's smile grew even brighter.
Deanna found that smile increasingly annoying.
She took a deep breath to suppress the anger Eula had stirred up within her and said calmly, "It's okay if you don't admit it now; you'll confess soon enough."
"What do you mean?" Eula sensed something was off.
Deanna smiled slightly and said truthfully, "You should know that I studied medicine. Just now, I released a colorless and odorless poison. Without an antidote, the poisoned person will experience organ failure within three days."
Eula's face instantly changed but quickly regained its composure. She sneered, "Poison? Do you think this is a TV drama?"
