"No, I still feel uneasy," Eula said, adjusting to a comfortable sitting position and resting her chin on her hand. "Here's what you should do next," she continued, motioning for Avery to come closer.
...
That evening, Deanna hurried to the hospital after finishing her work at the company. She had planned to have dinner with her grandmother and then leave with the two little ones. But when she entered the ward, she found only her grandmother there.
"Grandma, where are Gregory and Chloe?" Deanna asked.
Old Ashley looked at her, her expression suddenly changing. She grabbed the teacup beside her and threw it at Deanna. "Deanna, do you still consider me your grandmother? You broke up with Lance and didn't even tell me! Do you still respect me as your elder?"
Deanna was stunned by her grandmother's sudden outburst. After a few seconds, she finally reacted and looked at her grandmother in surprise, noticing that she was winking at her while continuing to scold.
"You stabbed Lance in public. He only sent you to a sanatorium, not a mental hospital. Why are you throwing such a tantrum?"
"I think Lance spoiled you too much, making you so willful! This is your fault. You need to apologize to Lance right now!"
Hearing these words, Deanna understood immediately and angrily retorted, "Why should I apologize? I didn't stab Lance on purpose! Forget it, it's late. I'll come back another day."
With that, she turned and left. As she walked out, she heard her grandmother's angry voice from the ward.
"I don't need you to visit me. Come back when you've made up with Lance; otherwise, I don't want to see you!"
Hearing this, Deanna pressed her lips together and left the hospital under the curious gazes of others. On her way back, she received a message from her grandmother.
"How did I do? Was my acting good?"
"How did you guess?" Deanna asked curiously.
Her grandmother replied, "This afternoon, Samantha came to pick up Gregory and Chloe. I asked about your situation, and Samantha typed it out on her phone."
Just as this message came through, another one followed.
"Although I don't know what you're planning, we can all guess that your breakup with Lance is fake. Are you sure you can fool everyone?"
Deanna couldn't help but frown at this. Indeed, since she and Lance pretended to break up, first her master saw through it, then Samantha and Grandma. Could they really fool Eula?
Deanna pondered this and sent the question to Lance. His reply came quickly: "You forgot what you said before. This plan isn't to make Eula believe we broke up but to make her slip up. Whether she believes it or not, if she's really behind everything, she'll take action."
Reading this, Deanna remembered the ultimate goal of her plan. She then replied to her grandmother.
The next second, Old Ashley called.
"Isn't this too dangerous? You're not alone now; you must prioritize your safety!"
"Don't worry, I won't risk myself or the children. Although the plan seems dangerous, it's less risky than having a hidden threat."
As Deanna spoke, the car suddenly shook violently with a loud bang, causing her to scream in surprise.
Old Ashley heard it and anxiously asked over the phone, "Deanna, what happened?"
"The car was hit. Grandma, I'll call you back later," Deanna said before hanging up and looking at Nightingale. "What happened?"
Nightingale responded respectfully, "A van came straight at us. Luckily, we reacted quickly and swerved onto the greenbelt; otherwise, we would have collided. Miss, please stay in the car while I check."
With that, she unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car.
Watching her walk away, Deanna recalled their conversation and her eyes darkened. Her intuition told her that this accident was no coincidence.
Indeed, it wasn't. The accident appeared to be caused by a drunk van driver, but both Deanna and Lance's private investigations revealed Eula was behind it.
Under the night sky, Deanna stood on the balcony with her phone, chatting with Lance.
Lance said, "It was too easy for us to find out it was Eula. She must have left clues on purpose to test us."
"I think so too. What should I do?" Deanna replied.
Soon after, Lance's message came through again.
"Of course, confront her. She's provoking you; are you going to let it slide?"
"No way. I'll take people there tomorrow and see if she slips up."
