After wandering around for half a day, the three of them went to a nearby cafe to rest.
During that time, Deanna looked at Jessica and asked, "Dayton mentioned before that you two are engaged. Why hasn't any news come out?"
"Well, it's just that our families had a meal together and we temporarily made the decision," Jessica said, a hint of helplessness in her smile. "You know, I insisted on this marriage. My parents didn't believe that I would like Dayton, so they wanted to keep it secret before the wedding. If anything unexpected happens in the meantime, it would minimize my losses. When the wedding date arrives and Dayton and I haven't broken up, we'll announce it then."
Listening to this, Deanna nodded in understanding. "I understand your parents' feelings. Honestly, I can't figure out how you could like Dayton when you two are clearly from different worlds."
Julia, who was unaware of the situation, remained silent and listened with curiosity.
After hearing Deanna's words, Jessica seemed lost in thought, as if reminiscing about something.
Deanna noticed this but didn't interrupt her.
After a moment, Jessica finally spoke again. "Maybe it's because Dayton and I are from different worlds that I am so fascinated by his world. I want to protect that innocence he possesses."
"Um... Miss Hill, are you getting this situation mixed up?" Julia asked, a bit confused.
Isn't it usually the man who protects the woman in this kind of situation?
Jessica chuckled lightly in response to Julia's confusion and explained, "From your perspective, our situation may seem reversed. But what you don't know is that our upbringing was also reversed. Both of us are only children in our families. Normally, with a family like mine, my parents would be thinking about finding me a husband to help manage our company. But that's not the case with my parents."
"They believe that people's hearts change easily, so they have always hoped that I would inherit the family business. They groomed me as their successor from a young age. On the other hand, Dayton, as the only child in his family, didn't show any talent in business. His parents gave up on grooming him and planned to hand over the company to a manager when they got older. This is why Dayton still retains that innocence at his age. And in him, I see the innocence I lost and want to protect."
After saying this, Deanna and Julia exchanged glances, unsure of what to say.
Finally, Deanna smiled and said, "In that case, I hope you both find happiness. When the time comes for your wedding, don't forget to send me an invitation."
"And me too, I want to go," Julia chimed in.
Jessica naturally didn't refuse and said, "When Dayton and I finalize our plans, I'll have someone send you the invitations."
At this point, Jessica suddenly changed the subject and asked, "By the way, I heard that Miss Deanna and Mr. Mercer are planning to have a wedding. Don't forget to invite me and let me share in the joy."
Julia, upon hearing this, also remembered her friend's wedding. "That's right, Deanna. When are you and Mr. Mercer planning to have your wedding?"
"I've temporarily canceled the wedding," Deanna answered honestly in the face of their gaze.
This surprised both Julia and Jessica. "Canceled? Why?" they asked simultaneously.
Deanna explained, "I don't want to get married while still suffering from amnesia. And there are some unresolved issues between Lance and me that I don't want to carry into our marriage."
Upon hearing this, Jessica felt puzzled but didn't ask further. After all, it involved Deanna's privacy.
Julia, on the other hand, knew some of the circumstances and fully supported Deanna's decision. "You're right. Some problems should indeed be resolved before marriage."
She suddenly seemed to think of something fun and her eyes lit up. "Hey hey, we can get married together then and go on our honeymoon together."
With that statement, she became excited and looked at Deanna, asking, "Deanna, what do you think?"
Deanna thought it was a good idea and nodded in agreement.
And so, the three of them chatted and laughed in the cafe.
It wasn't until evening when Lance called.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm out with Julia and Miss Hill. We made plans to have dinner together tonight."
Deanna responded with a smile.
Lance couldn't join them and could only hang up the phone, letting the girls have fun.
Later in the evening, after they finished dinner together, they went their separate ways.
When Deanna returned to the mansion, it was already dark outside.
As soon as she entered the living room, she saw Lance sitting on the sofa but didn't see Gregory and Chloe. Concerned, she asked, "Where are Gregory and Chloe?"
"They're in their rooms doing homework," Lance replied as he got up and took Deanna's hand. He asked gently, "Did you have fun today?"
Deanna nodded and smiled. "I had a great time. Oh, by the way, I bought you a suit. Go try it on and see if it fits."
As she spoke, she motioned for Shannon to bring over the shopping bag she was holding.
Seeing this, Lance's eyes lit up with a smile. He said affectionately, "The one you bought will definitely fit."
