Deanna looked at the man's gentle expression but remained unmoved.
"Alright, there's nothing going on here. You should hurry to work. When I wake up, I'll have someone from the house drive me to the hospital. Besides, you've arranged for Shannon and Nightingale to stay with me. What could possibly happen?"
Lance couldn't argue and eventually left for the company.
After he left, the two little ones looked at Deanna with hesitant expressions.
Seeing this, Deanna raised an eyebrow and said, "What do you want to say? Go ahead."
"Mommy, did you and Daddy have a fight?" they asked worriedly.
Deanna chuckled, "Why do you say that?"
"Mommy refused to marry Daddy yesterday and sent him away today," Chloe said, counting on her fingers.
Gregory nodded in agreement.
Deanna couldn't help but laugh, "Don't worry, we didn't fight. Mommy just doesn't like Daddy hovering around all the time. He should focus on his own work."
"But Daddy is worried about you," the two little ones defended their father.
Deanna looked at them defending Lance and ruffled their hair. "Alright, kids shouldn't worry about adult matters. Daddy and I are fine. Now, come with Mommy to rest for a while."
The two exchanged glances.
They could tell that Mommy didn't want to continue the topic, so they wisely dropped it, fearing it might backfire if they persisted.
Meanwhile, at the company, Lance arrived and Xavier immediately reported the recent happenings.
By almost noon, Lance was finally done and was about to call home to check on Deanna.
Before he could dial, Xavier knocked and entered. "Mr. Mercer, Avery is here with a compensation list."
"Bring him up," Lance said, putting down his phone, planning to call Deanna later.
Soon, Xavier brought Avery into the office.
Despite his resentment towards Lance for abandoning his master, Avery remained respectful.
"Good afternoon, Mr. Mercer."
"The list?" Lance went straight to the point.
Avery took a document from his briefcase and handed it over.
Xavier received it and passed it to Lance.
Lance didn't look at it and told Avery, "You can go now. I'll have someone verify the numbers. If everything checks out, the compensation will be paid by tomorrow."
Avery had no choice but to leave, feeling guilty because he had inflated the figures several times over.
Shortly after Avery left, Xavier exclaimed in the office, "Mr. Mercer, they're treating us like fools!"
Xavier had been handling Eula's assets and knew the actual losses. Seeing the inflated figures made him furious.
Lance wasn't surprised; he knew Eula wouldn't let herself suffer losses.
"No matter. Pay them whatever is justified. They'll return it eventually."
"Understood."
Xavier knew Mr. Mercer wouldn't let Eula off easily. This was just a temporary truce for Missus's sake.
He soon left the office.
Lance picked up his phone again to call Deanna.
This time, Chloe answered.
"Daddy!"
"Is that Chloe? Where's your mommy?" Lance asked gently.
Chloe replied in her sweet voice, "Mommy is making lunch for Great-grandma. Do you need something?"
"No, I just miss your mommy."
Lance didn't mind showing affection in front of his daughter.
Then he changed the subject, "By the way, is Mommy making a lot of food? Daddy hasn't eaten yet."
The little girl immediately understood and giggled mischievously, "Mommy made a lot. Daddy, wait for us; we'll come over and eat with you."
Hearing this, Lance felt his daughter was truly his little sweetheart.
After hanging up, Chloe skipped to the kitchen with the phone.
"Mommy..."
"Who was on the phone?" Deanna asked without turning around.
Gregory was helping her and glanced at his sister.
He saw her wink at him before she said, "Mommy, it was Daddy. He misses you but didn't want me to disturb you since you're cooking. Daddy hasn't eaten yet. Can we take some food to him after we're done and eat together before visiting Great-grandma?"
