After leaving, Eula returned to the car with a grim expression.
Avery noticed her somber face and asked with concern, "Master, was the negotiation unsuccessful?"
"No, the negotiation went smoothly. Later, have someone list the losses from this period and send it to Lance," Eula instructed.
Avery was stunned, "Master, you're not delivering it yourself?"
"No, Lance doesn't want to see me right now. If I keep appearing in front of him, it will only annoy him," Eula said in a low voice.
After speaking, she fell silent, her eyes dark and unreadable.
Avery didn't know what to say.
Suddenly, he remembered something and cautiously asked, "Then about Deanna, should we still take action?"
"Are you an idiot? Lance is already suspicious of me. If I act against Deanna now, aren't you worried it will increase his suspicions?" Eula scolded.
Avery didn't dare to speak further.
That afternoon, after Deanna's nap, she went to the hospital with Lance to visit her grandmother.
The two children went along as well.
In the evening, the family of four left the hospital and went to the Mercer family estate.
Upon arrival, Deanna saw Logan and Samantha standing at the door with several servants behind them.
"Mom, Dad, why are you outside?" Lance asked in confusion as he got out of the car.
Deanna also got out with the children and politely greeted everyone.
Samantha responded with a smile and explained, "We heard you were coming and came out to welcome you. We also wanted to help Deanna ward off bad luck for peace and safety in the future."
As she spoke, she signaled a servant to bring over a fire basin and then called Deanna over, "Deanna, come here and step over this to get rid of any bad luck."
Deanna didn't refuse and followed Samantha's instructions to step over the fire basin.
"Good, good. This is a lucky cash gift. Take it and put it under your pillow when you get home," Samantha said as she handed Deanna a generous cash gift.
Lance watched from the side without stopping them.
He knew his mother wanted to change Deanna's luck because of past events.
Deanna understood Samantha's good intentions and thanked her as she accepted the gift.
Inside, Old Mercer looked at Deanna's improved complexion and nodded approvingly, "Good child, you've been through a lot. It's good that you're okay."
"This is my grandfather," Lance introduced as he held Deanna.
Deanna obediently greeted him, "Hello, Grandpa."
After some pleasantries, they moved to the dining room for dinner.
During the meal, Old Mercer brought up the topic of marriage.
"Lance, now that Deanna is back, when do you plan to hold the wedding?"
Everyone looked at Lance.
Before Lance could respond, Deanna spoke first, "Old Mr. Mercer, I think we shouldn't rush the wedding. I've lost my memory and don't know what will happen when I recover. I'd like to wait until my memory returns before deciding on the wedding."
"Recovering your memory will take another month. By then, you'll be three months pregnant and might not fit into the wedding dress we prepared," Samantha said worriedly.
Lance glanced at Deanna and then said, "We can wait until after the baby is born to have the wedding."
The Mercer family elders hesitated.
"Isn't that too long? It will be several months before the baby is born."
"It's just a few months. We've waited this long; a few more months won't matter," Lance said calmly.
Though his tone seemed fine, Deanna sensed his displeasure.
She knew why he was unhappy but had her reasons.
The strange atmosphere between them was noticed by everyone in the Mercer family and the two children.
To give them space to talk, Samantha took the children away after dinner.
Old Mercer and Logan also made excuses to discuss business in the study.
Only Deanna and Lance remained in the living room.
Deanna looked at the man beside her who was exuding coldness and chuckled, "Are you upset because I refused to marry now?"
Lance looked at her and asked, "Why?"
Their eyes met.
Deanna blinked and put away her smile. "Even though I don't know how we used to get along, maybe our feelings were deep enough that I still feel moved by you despite my amnesia. But I don't want to marry in uncertainty. Also, I don't want random women appearing in my future marriage."
"There won't be random women," Lance said, surprised by her reasons and feeling helpless.
Deanna shook her finger with a smile. "Don't be so sure. There's still one unresolved issue now. My intuition tells me that woman won't stay quiet."
