Lance didn't understand why Deanna wanted him to agree, but he decided not to contradict her.
He said to Eula, "Since Deanna speaks for you, I can promise you one condition. As long as it doesn't go against my principles or exceed my capabilities, I will do my best."
He said this because he was worried Eula might ask for something beyond his ability.
Eula understood the implication in his words and nodded in acceptance.
"Since the matter is settled, you may leave now," Lance said, directly showing her out.
Eula's face turned slightly sour, but seeing the indifference on Lance's face, she knew that lingering would only make him more annoyed with her.
She stood up gracefully and said, "Then I'll take my leave. Once I tally the losses, I'll send you the list."
Lance nodded expressionlessly and called Sam to see her out.
With Eula gone, only Deanna and Lance remained in the study.
Lance turned his head to look at Deanna beside him.
Although he said nothing, Deanna understood why he looked somewhat puzzled.
"Are you wondering why I asked you to promise that woman?" she asked.
"Yes," Lance nodded.
Deanna put down the magazine she was holding and looked up at him. "Because I want to see what she plans to do. If I'm not mistaken, she is the mastermind behind my recent troubles. Unfortunately, you have no evidence."
Hearing this, Lance frowned.
He thought he understood Deanna's plan and couldn't help but worry. "Eula is dangerous. She's not like ordinary women."
"So you're saying I'm not as good as her?" Deanna played with her hair and looked over, her tone carrying a hint of danger.
Lance quickly reassured her, "Of course not. There's no comparison between you two."
Deanna made no comment or response to this.
She shifted the topic, her expression turning serious. "Eula harbors great hostility towards me. According to what you said, my previous troubles are likely connected to her. But since you found no evidence, it only proves how cunning she is. We need to expose some of her weaknesses to make her reveal herself."
She paused for a moment, then looked up with resolute eyes. "I hope when the time comes, you won't let her go because of any past favors. But even if you do, I won't spare anyone who tries to harm me."
Lance was stunned.
This decisive and determined Deanna was someone he had never seen before, making him like her even more.
For a moment, he was curious about how many sides of his wife he had yet to discover.
"Don't worry. Anyone who tries to harm you won't be spared by me either, no matter what favors they might have done for me," Lance promised in a low, serious voice.
Seeing Lance's attitude, Deanna was very satisfied. "Alright then, since there's nothing else, I'll go check on Gregory and Chloe."
She was about to get up when Lance grabbed her wrist.
The next second, she fell into his cold-scented embrace, and his gentle voice came from above her head.
"Who said there's nothing else? There's still one more thing we haven't discussed."
"What is it?" Deanna asked while struggling to free herself from Lance's embrace. "Let go of me first; it's uncomfortable talking like this."
Instead of letting go, Lance held her tighter and flipped them over so that he was on top of her.
He looked down at Deanna and said, "Is this better?"
Meeting his dark, gleaming eyes, Deanna felt a mix of unease and shyness.
This was the closest they had been in a while.
"What do you want to say?" Deanna suppressed her wild thoughts and warned him quickly, "You better not try anything funny."
Lance saw her nervousness and chuckled softly. "Don't worry, I won't try anything."
"Then what do you want?" Deanna asked, now only confused.
Lance moved closer and said, "It seems you don't know what the problem is. Let me give you a hint. What did you say to Gregory and Chloe when you came in earlier?"
"What did I say?" Deanna blinked innocently.
In truth, she already guessed what Lance was referring to.
Lance looked at the feigning innocence on Deanna's face with a mix of frustration and helplessness. "You said you would remarry with my child. Deanna, who gave you the courage to say such a thing?"
The last word carried a threatening tone.
Deanna met his gaze without guilt. "Of course, I gave myself that courage. Besides, there were words before that statement; why don't you mention those?"
Lance was momentarily speechless but quickly regained his voice. "In any case, don't say such things again. I would never do anything to betray you."
