Lance was disappointed, but for the sake of the child's health, he didn't insist. He also planned to inform Deanna about it. Watching the pensive man, Gunner spoke again, "Since Deanna is back, what are your plans for the wedding and Eula?"
Lance wasn't surprised by the question. Before he could answer, Deanna emerged from the CT room. "The staff inside said the results will be out in half an hour," Deanna informed them.
Gunner nodded gently, "I'll wait here for the results. Lance, you take Deanna to the gynecology department to check on the baby."
Lance agreed and took Deanna to the gynecology department. On the way, Deanna said, "The baby is actually very healthy. Dayton accompanied me to the hospital for a check-up before."
Hearing this, Lance felt a sudden discomfort. As the father, he hadn't even seen his child yet, and Dayton had already beaten him to it.
However, he didn't voice this to Deanna and instead persuaded her, "It's been some days since the last check-up. It's good to have another one. Besides, we need to establish a file to record information from each check-up. I'll accompany you every time from now on."
By the end of his words, Lance's tone had softened considerably.
When Gregory and Chloe were born, he didn't know and missed their growth. Now that there was a new baby, he intended to be involved in every detail.
Deanna noticed Lance's gentle and affectionate expression and knew he wasn't just saying it. She couldn't help but smile and nodded happily, "Then I allow you to come with me."
Seeing Deanna's proud look, which resembled Chloe at times, Lance's smile showed a mix of helplessness and affection. Soon, they arrived at the gynecology department. Lance handled all the registration personally.
Deanna noticed his increasingly excited expression and asked curiously, "You seem very eager for the upcoming check-up?"
"Is it that obvious?" Lance didn't deny it and looked directly at Deanna.
Deanna nodded, "Yes. Your hands are shaking." She pointed to Lance's hands hanging by his sides.
It was then that Lance realized he was indeed nervous and smiled wryly, "Probably because I'm about to see the baby."
"To be honest, even if you're excited, the baby is less than two months old now-just a slightly larger lump of flesh. You won't see much," Deanna said, deliberately observing Lance's reaction.
As expected, she saw Lance's stiff expression and couldn't help but laugh out loud. Hearing her laugh, Lance looked at her indulgently, "You did that on purpose."
"But I wasn't lying. From a medical perspective, the baby is indeed just a slightly larger lump of flesh now," Deanna said with a matter-of-fact look.
Lance looked helpless but still said, "Even so, watching the baby grow from a small lump into a child is a unique experience. I missed Gregory and Chloe's growth because I didn't know about them. This time, I don't want any more regrets."
In the end, he shared his true feelings with Deanna. His words touched her deeply. Seeing Lance's demeanor, she knew he wasn't just saying it.
However, looking at his expensive suit, she found it hard to imagine him as a doting father. "You sound like a new dad, but taking care of a baby is hard. They're very fragile when they're born; even a little force can hurt them," Deanna teased him again.
Lance caught on and responded with tenderness in his eyes, "I'll learn how to take care of the baby. I heard there's a special class for dads at the hospital. I've already asked Xavier to sign me up. Whenever you come for check-ups, I'll attend classes to learn how to care for the baby."
"Then I wish you success in learning soon," Deanna said, surprised by how quickly he had taken action.
Her smile widened noticeably. Clearly, although she didn't say much, she was pleased with Lance's approach. Soon, it was their turn for the check-up.
Originally, only Deanna could go in, but Lance wanted to see the baby-even if it was just a small lump of flesh-he was still excited. The doctor knew Lance's identity and thought Mr. Mercer and Mrs. Mercer were indeed as loving as rumored.
As Deanna lay on the examination bed and the doctor started the machine, colorful images appeared on the screen. Unfortunately, Lance couldn't understand these images, but he watched intently and asked, "Which part is the baby?"
The doctor pointed to a red image and said, "This is the embryo. It's developing very healthily."
