It was undeniable that Eula's last words had touched Lance. He sat on the sofa with a solemn expression, his face revealing nothing of his thoughts, his left hand unconsciously resting on his right. Eula knew this was his thinking habit, so she remained silent to avoid disturbing him.
After a moment, Lance seemed to have made a decision. His dark eyes, devoid of any emotion, turned to Eula. "My people have been searching abroad. If you want me to dispel my doubts about you, let my people inspect all your territories."
This was the most comprehensive solution he could think of. Indeed, if Deanna was not in Eula's hands, wasting time with this woman would only delay the search for Deanna.
Eula was taken aback. She hadn't expected Lance to propose such a condition, and her face darkened. However, considering Lance's suspicion of her, she suppressed her anger and came up with another plan.
"You can inspect my territories, but I have a condition. If you don't find Deanna in my territories, you must apologize to me."
"Agreed. But if I find any suspicious actions from your people, don't blame me for taking action," Lance warned.
Soon, they agreed on a departure time. Deanna knew nothing of this. She had been confined in Dayton's villa for almost half a month. However, she wasn't in a hurry to escape. She lived as she always had, which puzzled Dayton, who had been keeping an eye on her.
That day, Dayton couldn't contain his curiosity and came to the villa. As soon as he entered the living room, he saw Deanna leisurely reading on the sofa. He couldn't help but smirk and cleared his throat to announce his presence.
Deanna heard the sound, glanced up briefly, and then returned her gaze to her book as if she hadn't seen Dayton at all. Dayton was displeased with her attitude.
"Hey, I'm standing right here. Can't you see me?"
"I see you. I just don't want to acknowledge you," Deanna replied calmly, her eyes still on her book.
Dayton ground his teeth in frustration and strode over to Deanna, snatching the book from her hands. "Hey, I'm talking to you. No reading allowed. I've heard you've been either sitting or lying down these days. Aren't you afraid of getting fat?"
"The doctor said my body is weak and I should rest whenever possible," Deanna said with a hint of exasperation. Then she questioned him, "Why are you here? Have you finally decided to let me go?"
Dayton tossed the book aside and lounged on the sofa next to Deanna with a smug expression. "You wish. I haven't achieved my goal yet."
Deanna simply picked up the discarded book and resumed reading. Dayton was even more dissatisfied with her disregard.
"Isn't it too much to ignore me like this?"
"I don't want to talk to a childish person. I'm afraid if I listen too much, my child will become just as childish," Deanna said teasingly, looking at Dayton.
Dayton was speechless with anger and glared at her. "Deanna, who are you calling childish?"
"Whoever reacts the most," Deanna replied calmly, though a close look would reveal a smile playing at her lips. Unfortunately, Dayton didn't notice.
He fumed, "Is this how you treat your savior?"
"What did I do?" Deanna asked innocently.
Dayton was once again at a loss for words. Seeing his puffed-up face, Deanna decided she had teased him enough and put down her book. "Alright, what's your purpose for coming here today?"
Dayton remembered his purpose. "I almost forgot the main reason. Why haven't you tried to escape from here?"
He looked at Deanna curiously, full of doubt. "According to typical TV plots, shouldn't you be trying to escape and find Lance?"
Deanna was speechless at this. She gave Dayton a peculiar look and advised earnestly, "Your brain isn't very bright to begin with; you should watch less of those brainless TV dramas."
Dayton was stunned. Was this woman calling him stupid? Before he could retort, Deanna spoke again, "The reason I haven't escaped is that I have no money, insufficient information, and my body can't handle the strain. Since you say my fiancé values me greatly, it's only a matter of time before he finds me. Why bother taking risks with my child?"
Her reasoning left Dayton speechless. It also made him realize that this woman was indeed worthy of being Lance's fiancée-smart and annoyingly so.
Since she was so confident, he decided not to share any news with her; after all, her family was safe. "Fine, if you want to stay here, then stay. I'm leaving."
With that, Dayton turned and left. Watching him disappear, Deanna shook her head, finding his visit quite inexplicable.
