Although Avery knew that her master and he might have fallen into Lance's trap, he remained tight-lipped.
Even when Xavier used the most brutal punishments, almost killing her several times, she did not compromise.
After a night had passed, Xavier finally ended the interrogation.
He looked at the man lying on the ground, barely alive, and instructed his subordinate, "Keep an eye on him. Don't let him die."
"Yes!" The subordinate nodded and accepted the order.
Then Xavier left the stronghold and went to the hospital.
Lance had stayed in Old Ashley's ward all night.
With Deanna not around, he had to take care of her only relative.
However, he didn't stay up all night since his body couldn't handle it. He just stayed alert in the ward.
Because of this, even though he had rested, his face still showed signs of fatigue.
After a quick wash, he had just stepped out of the bathroom when Xavier came looking for him.
"Mr. Mercer."
"How did the interrogation go?"
Lance saw Xavier and asked in a low voice.
Xavier reported truthfully, "Avery is very tight-lipped. We used all kinds of punishments, but she wouldn't say anything."
Hearing this, Lance was not surprised.
After all, Avery was Eula's most loyal confidant.
He then continued to ask, "Has Eula noticed Avery's disappearance? Any actions?"
"We haven't received any information yet. She probably hasn't noticed."
Xavier spoke while looking at Lance, waiting for the next instructions.
Lance frowned.
Eula had targeted his grandmother through Avery but hadn't taken any other actions.
He quickly understood that this wasn't Eula's main base, and Deanna was too important a hostage for Eula to bring along.
So he directly instructed Xavier, "Throw Avery into the hotel where Eula is staying."
"Mr. Mercer, you want to release Avery?"
Xavier looked over in surprise.
Lance nodded. "Eula is too calm. We don't know Deanna's situation clearly. I don't have time to play cat and mouse with her. We need to provoke her into looking for Deanna."
Hearing this, Xavier agreed and turned to leave.
By the afternoon, Eula had seen the barely alive Avery.
"What happened? How did Avery end up like this?"
She looked at her other subordinates in fury and questioned them.
The subordinates didn't dare to hide anything and explained truthfully, "Yesterday, you sent Avery out on a mission. He didn't return all night, and we didn't pay much attention. But today at noon, during a shift change, we found Avery dumped in the emergency exit."
After hearing this, Eula frowned deeply, feeling a bad premonition.
However, she temporarily suppressed that feeling. The urgent matter was to wake Avery up.
"Go get Angelo."
"Yes." The subordinate accepted the order and left.
Soon after, Angelo arrived with his medical kit.
Seeing Avery lying on the bed covered in blood, he was quite shocked. "What happened to Avery?"
"I sent him out on a mission. Wake him up; I need to ask him something."
Eula's face was grim as she gave the order.
Seeing this, Angelo didn't waste any time and began treating Avery.
Half an hour later, after bandaging Avery's wounds, he reported, "The injuries are treated. He should wake up soon."
"Good. You may leave."
Eula nodded and stayed by the bedside.
Not long after, Avery indeed woke up.
Seeing Eula sitting by the bed, he was very surprised. "Master?"
"You're awake."
Eula looked back at him, noting his surprised expression, and asked, "What? Surprised to see me?"
Avery nodded and spoke up about his ordeal before Eula could ask. "I followed your orders and went to the hospital to leak information about Deanna to her family. But when I came out, Lance's people caught me. Master, I feel Lance is plotting something against you. Chiaz isn't safe; we should leave as soon as possible."
Hearing this, Eula was both unsurprised and slightly taken aback.
Since Lance had cut ties with her, she knew he would make a move against her.
But she hadn't expected that after capturing Avery, Lance would send him back without hiding what he had done to him.
What does Lance want?
Eula began to ponder Lance's intentions.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Old Ashley finally woke up after being rescued.
She looked at the pure white ceiling above her with a dazed expression.
At this moment, she heard Samantha and the two little ones' joyful voices by her ear.
"Deanna's grandma, you're awake."
"Great-grandma, you're finally awake. My brother and I were so worried about you."
Chloe looked at the old lady with wide eyes filled with tears.
Gregory stood beside her with a concerned look on his face as well.
Seeing this, the old lady knew that her critical illness had frightened the two children. In a weak voice, she said, "Don't cry. I'm fine now."
"We won't cry. Great-grandma, promise us to get better."
The two little ones wiped away their tears and looked at the old lady, wanting her promise.
