Hearing her mother's words, Lance took a deep breath to suppress the emotions surging within him.
In a hoarse voice, he said, "I learned from Bella that Deanna was already one month pregnant when the incident happened."
"What!"
Samantha couldn't help but exclaim in shock.
Realizing her outburst, she quickly covered her mouth and glanced into the hospital room.
Inside, the two little ones were still asleep.
Samantha sighed in relief, then pulled Lance aside and urgently asked, "Tell me the truth, what exactly is Deanna's situation?"
"Currently, I haven't found any information about Deanna. Mr. Martinez and I discussed it, and it's very likely that someone saved Deanna and concealed her whereabouts."
Lance knew his mother was worried about Deanna, so he shared some of his and Gunner's speculations. "We still suspect that Deanna is with Eula. However, this woman is meticulous in her actions, and I haven't found any evidence yet."
"That woman again!"
Samantha spoke angrily, also venting her frustration on Lance. "Look at the women you get involved with; none of them are trouble-free. I'm telling you, if anything happens to Deanna's baby, you..."
She struggled to find the right words to scold Lance.
Finally, she could only say angrily, "In short, if anything happens to Deanna and the baby, you can expect your grandfather to break your legs!"
Lance remained silent, as if accepting such a punishment.
Indeed, he regretted not resolving things thoroughly when he realized Eula had feelings for him.
For the next two days, Lance stayed at the hospital, taking care of Old Ashley and looking after the two little ones.
Soon, it was the third day.
Early in the morning, Deanna got up and asked Dayton to take her to the maternity hospital.
Mrs. Poole knew that Deanna had a prenatal checkup today and brought Frankie along early in the morning, insisting on accompanying the couple to the hospital.
This was their first grandchild; how could they not take it seriously?
Deanna was a bit overwhelmed by how much Mr. and Mrs. Poole valued the baby.
Dayton also felt uneasy.
Especially when he saw his parents smiling warmly at Deanna's belly, he couldn't help but worry about what would happen when the truth came out.
At that moment, he even considered giving up his plan to retaliate against Lance.
He felt that continuing like this was not revenge but courting death.
No, no, he had come this far. Even if he gave up now, he wouldn't escape a beating. Since a beating was inevitable, he might as well get his revenge on Lance to make it worthwhile.
Dayton shook his head to dispel his hesitation.
Thus, they all headed to the hospital in a grand procession.
As they were about to get out of the car, Dayton handed Deanna a pair of sunglasses and a mask. He explained to his parents, "The sun is strong outside, and I don't want Kamila to get sunburned. Also, the hospital has a strong smell of disinfectant which might affect the baby, so it's better to wear a mask to prevent any viruses."
Deanna discreetly rolled her eyes.
This man could really lie with a straight face.
However, she didn't object and put on the sunglasses and mask. Her intuition told her it was safer this way.
Mr. and Mrs. Poole were too excited about seeing their grandchild to notice anything strange in Dayton's words. They agreed wholeheartedly, "Even though hospitals are disinfected, there are still many patients around. It's good to be cautious. Dayton has finally grown up and knows how to care for others."
Dayton forced a smile at their words.
The checkup went smoothly.
However, the results were not good.
The doctor held the report and said, "The baby's condition is not very stable, and the mother's nutrition is insufficient. Several indicators are below standard. I recommend that the mother rest at home until the next checkup."
"Do we need any medication?"
Mrs. Poole asked with concern.
The doctor shook his head. "No need for medication. The mother is just lacking nutrition and is physically weak. Proper nourishment will suffice."
Mr. and Mrs. Poole nodded repeatedly, assuring they would take good care of the mother.
On the way back, Mr. and Mrs. Poole discussed bringing Deanna to their home for better care, but Dayton disagreed, insisting he could take care of her himself.
During this time, Deanna remained silent.
The reason was simple; she had seen some blurry images at the hospital earlier.
Although she couldn't see clearly, they gave her a feeling of depression.
At this moment, the Poole family noticed Deanna's unusual behavior and asked, "Kamila, why aren't you saying anything?"
"I saw some images at the hospital earlier that felt very familiar but also very depressing."
Deanna honestly shared her feelings.
Dayton's eyes widened in panic as he asked, "Have you regained your memory?"
Hearing this, Mr. and Mrs. Poole also looked at Deanna with concern.
Meeting their gaze, Deanna shook her head. "No, it just felt like I had been there before."
