"What nonsense are you spouting? My mother is perfectly normal. How could she go mad?" Emily glared angrily at the doctor.
The nurse standing nearby couldn't hold back and said, "If she's not mad, why does she call everyone 'Olivia' and say she wants to kill her? Several of us nurses got injured trying to stop her. If you don't believe me, we have surveillance footage."
Emily was left speechless and a bit panicked by these words. In a flash, a possibility crossed her mind. Could this be Deanna's doing? She knew her mother would never openly talk about Olivia like this. The thought made her fearful, and she just wanted to get her mother out of the hospital.
"My mother was fine when she was brought here. There must be something wrong with this hospital. I want to discharge her immediately." She couldn't leave her mother here for Deanna to harm again.
The doctor and nurse looked displeased at being blamed, but to avoid damaging the hospital's reputation, they allowed the mother and daughter to leave. However, an unexpected incident occurred as they were leaving.
Emily intended to untie her mother and signal her to follow. But as soon as she removed the cloth from her mother's mouth, Mia bit her hand hard, causing Emily to scream in pain.
"Mom, what are you doing? Let go of me!" Emily struggled, but Mia wouldn't release her grip. It took the intervention of the doctor and nurse for Emily to pull her hand free, which was bleeding profusely.
Mia snarled, "Olivia, I'll bite you to death. I'm not afraid of you. You couldn't beat me when you were alive, and you think I'll fear you now that you're a ghost?"
"Mom, you're crazy! I'm your daughter, not Olivia!" Emily shouted in frustration.
Mia seemed not to hear her, glaring viciously and raving, "I killed you once; I can kill you again. I'll make sure you don't have a next life. And I'll make your daughter and grandson reunite with you in the nether world!"
Hearing these words, Emily felt both terrified and furious. "Mom, do you even know what you're saying? Shut up!" Fearing Mia might reveal past secrets, she quickly grabbed the discarded cloth and gagged her mother again.
Noticing the strange looks from the doctor and nurse, Emily said nervously, "My mother must really be insane to bite me like that. I'll take her to a psychiatric ward right away. As for what she said earlier, it was all nonsense."
Without waiting for their response, she called for a driver and had Mia carried out. She wouldn't let her mother be treated here anymore.
Unbeknownst to them, a cleaning lady entered Mia's room shortly after they left and retrieved a small recording device from under the bed.
Soon, the device was delivered to Lance. Listening to the recording, he frowned slightly, feeling it wasn't enough.
"Keep gathering testimonies. Don't let Emily get a certificate declaring Mia mentally ill," he ordered. If Mia were declared insane, the testimonies would be invalid.
Xavier understood and went to make arrangements.
Meanwhile, Eula's subordinate returned to report on his meeting with Emily.
"That woman wants to deal with Deanna but is wary of Deanna's backers. She hopes we will handle Deanna for her."
"She has some nerve," Eula sneered but was surprised by what she heard. She hadn't expected that besides Lance and the Martinez family, even Chiaz's top leaders were backing Deanna.
Realizing she couldn't deal with Deanna for now, she decided to set it aside for the moment. Changing the subject, she asked, "How are things back home? Have we sorted out the assets we acquired?"
"Are those assets ours?" the man asked in surprise.
Eula looked displeased. "If they weren't ours, why would I send you to sort them out?"
"But Mr. Mercer said those assets were his..." The man trailed off as he realized something was amiss. "Master, didn't you know about this?"
Eula's expression turned serious. "Did Lance really say that? Why didn't anyone tell me?"
"We thought Mr. Mercer had informed you since you two are together," the man explained, realizing they had made a timing error.
Eula was furious. Being unlucky in love was one thing, but losing out on benefits was unacceptable. She gritted her teeth and said, "Go immediately and inventory what assets Lance has taken."
